I checked the website for news, but nothing is there. What is everyone temperature threshold for starting open water swims? Haven't seen anything on wave starts yet. OWS -- will hopefully start out in Medical Lake beginning of May or so. CDA prolly closer to Memorial Day weekend as I did last year. The good thing will CDA is that within the swim area you can swim and then stand up if need be. The distance from the steps to the ropes is a decent enough distance to do multiple laps. I feel safe enough to swim there alone (but probably won't due to safety reasons) within the swimming area. I did that with a friend last year where it wasn't that deep so when I needed to stop I just stood up. |

I might be able to swing this coming weekend as well but the 20th I think would work out better on my end. That would work better for a number of reasons for me. It's supposed to be crappy this Saturday with a high of 46, 70% chance of rain, 20mph sustained winds and I have planned some Spring cleaning, taking stuff to the dump, etc. Looks like 60 miles on the trainer for me first thing in the AM. Does anyone else feel like trying to get together with us on the 20th for a ride on the course? I've never done any of the course but figure we would be riding south on the harder part of the course. Time frame to start? Oh and where should we start at? Is there a place just outside of town to park and start riding or park at the park and go from there? |

No matter where you start if you do the course its still 52 miles, and if you are feeling frisky you can go ride Higgins point again for a extra 12. |

Member 92 Rose Lake, Idaho | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I am in for the 20th, but dont laugh at how slow I am. I dont think the kids have anything going on so AM is fine. 56 sounds good, but if the weather is great I will try for more. I usually park at NIC on the weekends. By the way there is construction near the resort, so pace through town will be pretty slow. |

I'd really like to do at least one loop and then maybe an hour run afterwards. I'm not gonna be fast either - but I'm getting anxious to get out there and see where I stand - I've done nothing but trainer work to this point. |

Expert 1115 Spokane, WA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Of course I am in, just have to decide on a time and meet point. My schedule shows me doing 65 that day with an short/easy run afterwards. So maybe one loop plus back to Higgens point for me, then the run. I doubt I will be fast either, especially on the uphills. |

Regular 789 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Someone can decide where we should park at. I've been there a handful of times but as to where we park I'll need just a little bit of help. My plan calls for 3:30 on the bike that day so I'm guessing about 65-70 miles of riding. I don't have a run scheduled afterwards but I could always go on a short run as well just for fun. It will be interesting to see how things go for me on the hills. I've not done much hill work on the bike this year and the little hill work I've done has been with my 12-25 cassette. I'm getting a 11-28 cassette today so it will be interesting to see how that works on the hills. A time I would like to start would be around 9:30 - 10:00. Hoping the weather will be nice enough at that point. I haven't paid much attention to how warm it is at that time of day quite yet. |

I usually just pay to park at the main parking lot near the race finish. If there is free parking somewhere nearby, the library is free? Let us know! 930-10 start time sounds great to me, lets me sleep in til 6-7, get some breakfast in me and get things together for the 40 minute easy drive over. |

I know how you feel. I did a 18 mile trail run and I wasn't sure if it was raining really hard.........till I realized it was sleeting really hard. Less than 70 days to go. I'm feeling half prepared. Not sure how good that is, but it's how I feel. Erin, There will be no mistaking your bike. It is very unique. How great is it to get a new bike in plenty of time to have it ready for your race? I did that last year and I loved it. Right about the time I was starting to get a little worn out or burned out on training here comes this sweet new ride. Made my day. Chris |

I'm sure I could go out tomorrow and do well in a HIM - but when I think about doubling that... not so much. Only seven weeks of workouts until taper, doesn't seem like it's enough - guess I just have to trust the plan. |

Extreme Veteran 492 Austin, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread It has been a very up and down few days as I found out Friday I will not be able to race due to a blood clot that formed in my left calf after my HIM last Sunday. It was initially thought that I would not be able to do any physical activity for 3 months but after speaking with a couple vascular specialists there is still a slight possiblity I can resume training next weekend. The initial diagnosis was NOT a DVT which means the clot is in the outer part of the muscle and there really is no threat of Pulmonary Embolism. Depending on how long the clot is and how high up in the muscle, I might be able to train and race. I'll know for sure this Thursday after another ultrasound to see if the clot is disappearing. I am currently on blood thinners and the pain in my left calf is 95% gone which means the clot is starting to disappear. It was such a helter/skelter day on Friday trying to get the ultrasound and results that the Doc just wanted to get me on blood thinners as soon as possible but didn't give me specifics on exactly how high up the clot is, which is why the initial thought was no training for 3 months. I am hopeful I can train and race but I'm mentally preparing for the worst. Even if I can resume training this weekend I'm concerned about the complete lack of training for a week and how that will effect my race performance. If CDA is out then I am considering Lousville as I am in great shape and just had a great race in Galveston and I hate to lose all the work that's already been done. |

Veteran 439 Denver area | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Yay, more snow in Colorado. Ugh. Good part is that I'm going to Phoenix for work tonight. While Denver is covered in snow, I will be running speed intervals around Tempe Town Lake in shorts and a tank top at 4,000 ft lower elevation. Yay for oxygen! I hear you guys with feeling like I'm not training enough. My long ride is 70 miles (Saturday) and I ran 10 miles yesterday. But, in reality, I had a good weekend.
So really, a solid weekend of training. Triathletes are so funny, always tending to want to do MORE. rbalazs - so scary on your clot! I hope it resolves soon. |

I am in and I just noticed my weather report was from this past Saturday, something really wonky with my work computers date/time, that's not the first time it's happened. |

My Son has a swim meet Friday and if he qualifies for finals I will not be going Saturday. I will check in again on Friday to see who all is going. So much tragedy this week. I missed out qualifying for Boston last year, and was a blessing as this bombing would have been around my finishing time. |

I think I will trust the plan, but it would help if I could at least get to ride my bike outside. These last two months up to the event are going to be crazy since kids soccer starts and training go up for the last bit of build before the race. I'm in it to finish so I can't stress too much. In light of recent issues I cannot imagine how the families of the victims are feeling. I know I would be so full of guilt for having them at the finish it would be hard for me to toe the line ever again. It really sucks that our lives involve the thought of being bombed. Sorry to be a downer on this Tuesday, but I just couldn't find the motivation to work out yesterday after seeing the events of Monday unfold. I just wanted to do nothing and enjoy my time at home with the family doing nothing important. |

Expert 989 Broomfield, CO | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Anxious and jumpy... So this week is a "rest week". I had nothing on my schedule for Monday, plus I didn't feel good so I layed on the couch and watched movies while it snowed. It was a beautiful thing. Tuesday felt better did an easy 60 trainer ride, followed by an easy 30 minute. Tuesday at work I started feeling jumpy, couldn't relax, my felt like I had to move my legs. That night while trying to watch a movie I started to feel some anxiety, to the point I took one of my wife anxiety pills, which helped. Today I'm still a little jumpy I did a nice smooth 2300 yards in the pool. Have others experienced anything like this? Is it from a lack of intense training my body is used too? Thanks from Jumpy in Colorado :-( |
