![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Last race of the year tonight (after having a race almost every week since July 23rd, what am I going to do with my life?) A 10k. Goal, as usual is to beat last year's time (first time I did his course) , which is 55:35 but I ran a sub 55' 10k earlier this year on a different course (54:47) so I'd like to think I can go under 54'. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I feel like I've missed so much in just a few short days!! Nat - I hear you on not taking shite. My tears were more angry and I have learned to just ignore him, and try to bring energy and joy to the practices. Unfortunately he's a really good coach in terms of actual workouts, and I absolutely love the other people on the team. Way to go on your race btw, and good luck tonight!! Andrew - so exciting! Definitely nothing like signing up for a race to kick your booty into gear. Gretchen - welcome back! We knew you wouldn't be gone long ?? Mike - cool you went to the race. I got diverted around it at one point, so that was lovely haha |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() We had a long holiday weekend in the states, and it just so happens that Labor day weekend is also my bday weekend ?? Saturday I did a run, then went to masters practice, before getting ready for a gathering of my friends in the park by my house. Had a blast, and ended the night singing karaoke. Sunday went to my nephew's soccer game and then took both of them to the pool, then went to a friend's for dinner, and ended the night stooping with my neighbors. Lots of drinks were had. Monday (my actual bday) I laid in bed all day answering bday texts, then went to vball playoffs where we lost and then I came home and laid around some more. Got back into gear yesterday. 45 min bike, and decided this morning, like Mike, I'm cutting down my drinking until after my tri 10/1. I have one weekend away but otherwise will avoid the booze. Did a 30 min ride this morning followed by a 30 min run/walk, including a "magic mile" that I did in 6:54! |

Well done on cutting down the booze for a while. I had almost 3 weeks off drinks and feel much better for it, and my results in my last 3 races show it. Now I am allowed to drink but I think I’ll stay off a little longer. Next season, I’ll go teetotal from the first race. |

Mission accomplished! 53:50 ![]() ![]() Way to bring it home strong, Nathalie! Thanks guys! It was a tough one. I am totally exhausted today, much more than after a sprint. The plan was to run at 5:32 km pace the first 3k, then 5:12 the next 3 and 5:02 the last 4, which would have given a 53:34 time. It was more up and down than this with a faster start and a dip in the middle and a strong finish. The best part is that I was able to push through the pain and not give up. Oh! Look at that, Looks like I have grown some willpower! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks for the translation, Mike! We end up bringing out chairs but still call it stooping. Feeling tired today, had a late night at axes, so taking it easy. Gonna do some yoga at some point and possibly ride after work |

Gonna do some yoga at some point and possibly ride after work I think they should add that to triathlon in the transitions, sort of like biathlon in XC skiing (which IMO is the most badazz sport). Swimming with axes might be tough so I'll have to give this one some thought... |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Solid week for me so far...rep work on the treadmill Tuesday, sprints and strength training (big paddles) in the pool yesterday followed by an OLY simulated ride (3 x 22' @ 85% - cracked on the 3rd interval but still finished it out unlike my bailing last week). Today was a short bike and run session with the run focusing on T pace and walking fast to simulate the race. Also did three strength training sessions, which will soon drop from the schedule as I taper. Still topping 200 on the scales but getting close. I want to race at 195 so I need to lean up big time during taper. I typically do the opposite of carbo-loading during taper anyway until the last day or two. I'm starting to lay out race strategy. It's one big out and back swim so the course won't be crowded at all - good for avoiding contact but bad for drafting so I'm going to place myself right in the middle of the pack (it's a TT start) to take advantage of the "mass swim current" that is created. I also need to start slow to avoid the hyper-ventilating thing that I seem to get. Bike has a steep uphill start and pretty flat except for a couple of short hills which is good for me. Hoping to hold about 82% of FTP and surge on the uphills. I'm going to run walk the 10K because, you know, I haven't actually run that far in like 8 years so I think that's prudent. LOL It'll be close to an 8/2 run walk split, walking at the mile markers except the last one. Target splits: Swim: < 30 minutes Edited by jmhpsu93 2022-09-08 7:44 AM |

I used to get that hyperventilating thing too, but the last couple of races, I haven't had it. I'm not sure if it is because I simply started slower, or if my fitness increased to where I used to think my fitness was on race day. It is horrible, though, and to be avoided at all costs. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Swim this morning went well--1650yds, which isn't much, but I got up at 5am and went to master's and I feel like that is an accomplishment after the night I had. I had repeated nightmares about how much luggage I need to take to Egypt to support myself for a nine month trip while training for worlds and MiTi 2023. So far, I normally take two large suitcases, my roller bag as carryon and my backpack. Add a bike to that and then I plan to purchase a trainer as soon as I arrive in Cairo. I'm going to need a car down to Amarna just for my luggage at this rate! Oly this weekend for me. I've not put as much thought into a race plan as Mike has for his. My current thought is just to enjoy the swim and not panic (the lake is a little gross, so I'm always worried about this race) and then red-line it as far as I can on the bike and fall apart on the run. So--not much different than my normal race plan, just no numbers associated with it! I have no hope of placing in my division--it is a big race with a lot of FAST women from St. Louis metro area. I haven't really been training much, minus the last few days, which is exactly when I should be tapering, and my diet today has consisted of a protein shake with espresso (which makes a passable latte), a coffee flavored protein shake, and coffee. It isn't promising, but I figure if I keep up the caffeine consumption, red-lining will be easier! |

Great job pushing through the pain and not giving up! The 'Plan' is almost always a negative split. If you pace appropriately that's almost always faster than going out hard and fading towards the end. Actually pulling it off? That's something I manage far less often. |
