Member 53 Roswell, GA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Well, the weekend started good enough. Century ride (actually 105 miles) with short run afterwards. 15mi run on Sunday. However, I live in the Atlanta area, so if you've seen the news you know we all need to build arks around here! So, missed my key swim of the week which is never a great feeling. Also, came down with stomach flu during/after long run - now down for the count! Hopefully, just for a couple of days (and at least this is a recovery week for me). Agree with others re: ready to stop training and get moving 'for real.' For most of us, it's just one more 3-week build period away before tapering - stay safe and healthy! Cheers, Mark |

Expert 830 Chesapeake, VA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I missed that too. I want my bib number! It is funny how we worry about these things, when i went to IMKY and was checking the transition counting my rows to my bike the woman volunteer that was assigned us said to my wife, oh we were trained just to let you triathletes do what you need to do, that you are all A types, I guess we are pretty anal....anyway i still want my bib! But I'm pumped up. T-SHIRTS Okay folks, I am going to extend requested t-shirts through today. Tomorrow afternoon I'm spreadsheeting it all, getting the #'s to Jay and getting a price quote. Again, you WILL be able to order after the price quote, but it won't effect the total cost of the shirts (make it lower). So, if you plan to buy one, tell me now so it's cheaper for all. So, whatever you would order for a race, is what I'd order on these. And hey, thanks for volunteering! I already appreciate all of you!! Volunteering is fun, I did it last year and am so glad I did! Gives me a better perspective and motivation for this year! |

Master 1779 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I am still in shock about a question someone asked me this morning at the gym. This person was asking me about IMFL. We have a mutual friend who just raced IMKY. She asked me if I was planning on riding in the huge pacelines at IMFL. She told me that our friend from IMKY said everyone did it. I told her I hadn't trained for an entire YEAR to cheat at an Ironman. She said "Well everyone does it and you could have a faster bike time". I told her I wouldn't be racing my own race if I rode in a paceline and cheated. Yes, I have heard there are huge pacelines at IMFL. But there is no way I would even consider riding in one. Am I naive to assume that the majority of IM athletes feel the same way that I do? I couldn't live with myself if I cheated at the IM or anywhere else for that matter. I couldn't live with myself if I cheated at the IM or anywhere else for that matter. At Redman I didn't have a paceline, but more like a pack of 10 people move up on me, obviously working together. They got between me and my rabbit and it sucked. Thankfully, a motorcycle did break them up. Don't think they penalized, but they should've. What sucked is I had to slow down so as not to get caught in it, and then pass them up later. I don't understand the cheating aspect. I trained so that I could do it, and couldn't live with myself if I didn't do it on my own power. Will I sit just 4 lengths back and legally draft, sure, but that is within the rules. I won't suck wheel. We should have some phrases for the wheel suckers: "How does that wheel taste?" "Too weak to do it on your own?" It's sad that people assume just cause others do it that it is allowed....I won't be in a paceline, and I intend to be somewhat vocal with any of those I see cause they deserve the embarrasment. |

Read some IMFL race reports and they share there are often peletons of 50 riders. It can be hard to stay out of them. I like what you suggest Brittney! My coach rides by them, points at them, says something about cheating in a very stern way. I think it is good to say something otherwise maybe they assume you are okay with it. I think it depends on where you are pace wise, your swim and bike time, to see if you will be where there are big peletons in FL. I watched the bike in '06 and '08 on the little out and back section near sn and didn't see what I'd consider peletons, lots of riders yes. I was out there for folks aiming for sub 6 hour bike splits...so not the fastest folks but front end of folks. Edited by KathyG 2009-09-22 9:39 PM |

Member 53 Roswell, GA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Regarding T-shirt sizes, I PM'd jccbulldog late last week asking about brands he'll be using. He confirmed dri-fit shirts were Zorrell, and regular T's would be Hanes. So, since I have two little ones and just found out they would be ordering Youth sizes, I quickly went over to the Hanes website and checked the Size Charts just to confirm I was ordering the right Youth sizes. My Zorrell shirts always fit pretty right on and are great shirts. Cheers, Mark |

Extreme Veteran 572 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Ok, the Tri-Gods must be pissed at me or something. Right when I am reaching the height of my training and need to fine tune my pacing they unleash an unprecedented flood on the Atlanta area. Atlanta is extremely hilly (especially on the northside where I live) and it is very difficult to find flat courses to train on. I had found the perfect park for run training and the perfect 60+ mile long bike path for training. My running park is now 7ft under water. Most of the bike path has been closed due to mudslides, washout, debris, etc... So it looks like instead of pacing I will be working on a lot of hill training for now. I know things don't always go perfectly and you need to adapt and overcome but COME ON. Everything has been great for the past 12 months and 6 WEEKS before the race and they pull this Happy Wednesday and good luck training. |
