Got to practice today and had to do a 1000 Meter Time Trial Swim which I was not planning or expecting to do.  Did it in 15:20 with the first 500 being at 7:39 and the seond at 7:41 so I swam consistant for the whole thing.  Probably could of had a better time if I had more then a 100 meter warm up but my friend slept in and was late picking me up so I was 20 minutes late to practice and didn't have time to do anything else.

I am really just posting to get us off page 2.  Hope everybody's training is going well and for the people that are injured I hope you heal fast.

Have a great weekend!

Awesome swim, Ryan.  I would be about 3 minutes slower on my best day.

My own time to brag.

Swam 2250 meters in 43:26.  The exciting part is that I bilateral breathed the entire time and kinda cruised.  Didn't push it and still averaged less than 2:00.

Piling onto the gimpy Brit (Steve, poor boy).

Scale just read....
195 (with a full belly)
BF% = 11.6

Holy cow!

And Steve, why can't you swim with a bad knee?  Every leg/foot injury that I have just makes me a better swimmer.

First week in awhile that has been negative.  Long work days while on travel status and w/o sessions were poor.  Starting to get shin splints.  Need to address this now before it gets bad.  Give props to BT found a couple articles about treating.  Take care everyone and train well.

Sorry I've been absent lately.  I've had some family issues that seem to be resolving.  My head has been all over the place.  I finally decided to tackle the half ironman training and at least give it a good try.  I joined BT as a bronze member and did a custom plan that seems fairly doable.  Its for their "olympic" but I added in the max distances for the custom which were 1900yd swim-50 mile bike-10 mile run.  It will give me a good guide for the discipline of the day and minimum distance.  I am trying mostly for consistency with the goal to just finish.  Some of the distances are short, like the bike and the run, but I will tweak for the actual workout.  Its just a guide.  I can't have a "plan" because then if I don't do something because life gets in the way I feel like I have "failed".  A guide is just a recommendation.

See these darn mental games I play.  I love the fact that I can fool myself.

Particpated in 2nd of 3 indoor events.  Happy with results.  Received compliments about my swimming and biking techinque from coaches who were volunteers.  That always makes you feel good.  Going to be another interesting work week.  Will try to get my mileage completed.  To address the shin issue putting more time in on the elliptical and refocus on stretching / yoga.

Oh Kathy, what happened?    Hope you aren't in too much pain and that you heal quickly!

I've had a good end to the week.  I finished my last of 4 swim lessons on Saturday.  I feel so much better in the water.  I'm still nice and slow, but now I feel like the work I'm doing is taking me in the right direction.  It really helped my swimming confidence and gave me some direction on where to go next.  My running is coming along.  My husband actually went running yesterday and today for the first time since he was 15 y/o.  He's a bit competitive and has always been the athletic one, and my increase in fitness and coincided with his decrease in fitness.  He loves to bike, but hates swimming - so I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that I might draw him into this crazy tri world.  I went on my longest bike ride today at 24 miles, and I final got sized and have a friend looking for a used bike for me.  All in all a great weekend!  How's everyone else doing?

Meh. I hate valentines day :P
Anyway
Considering doing a 10k run at the end of may. the question is, will I be able to do it?
Current state is :
constantly injured....
completely unfit....ish.
havn't run in ages, been cycling a fair amount and lots of sports. I reckon If I went out tomorrow and did a run, I might manage 2k at a push.
so thats 12 weeks or something, to get from 2k to 10k.
and the company is subsidising it heavily.
sounds like a no brainer to me :P

Honestly, I would recommend staying away from swim paddles altogether until you've got a few solid seasons of swimming under your belt and you're really looking to build power, break down different parts of the stroke, really at the point where you're at shaving seconds rather than minutes off your swim time.

But, I'm AWESOME at judging before asking ... the wise answer would be, what do you want the swim paddles for?

that would determine whether or what kind.
