Extreme Veteran 592 Long Island | Subject: RE: Dream Chaser's 'Set a Goal and Capture it!' Mentor Group - CLOSED GRB1 - 2011-05-02 2:19 PM Great Birthday for me! Bin Laden has finally been taken care of and the U.S. Navy was highly involved in the operation. As you can imagine this has tremendous meaning to me. I am not one who celebrates the death of anyone but if I had to choose one to celebrate this would be the one. It is a great victory for the Military as it helps moral out after almost 10 long years of ongoing operations with no real visible victories and no end in sight to combat operations. Additionally I think it helps to bring some closure to those who lost loved ones on 9-11. As you guys are already aware I am racing IM WI on the 10th anniversary of 9-11 and they are having special recognition of 9-11 during the event. I will be racing representing the U.S. Navy. I have decided to fund raise in support of the Wounded Warrior Project. I will be putting out additional details in the future. I can't even begin to express the amount of sacrifice I have witnessed over the past 10 years by fellow service members and their families. For me it will be a way of honoring their sacrifice for our great nation. I am a Naval Flight Officer by trade and have seen and done a lot of interesting and challenging things over my career. I can tell you that the hardest job I ever had to perform in my 19+ years of service was notifying the mother of a sailor who passed while serving his country. These are the memories which help drive me. I will get off my soap box now, but I felt compelled to share what is a very big day for me. Greg, AWESOME post. Sincere THANK YOU to you and your military brothers/sisters risking your lives daily in service of this country. Oh, and Happy Birthday! |

Yesterday I was thinking I wish I was a more CONFIDENT bike rider...I really don't wanna fall off, but apparently it can happen to the best of them!jmhpsu93 - 2011-04-27 12:37 AM Well, I managed to have my first major bike crash today (well...first in about 25 years anyway). I was out riding and hit some of that grooved, milled pavement, and when I tried to get up onto the good pavement evidently I didn't cross at a steep enough angle so BAM! down I went. 4 hours of ER time later I'm lucky to only have a bruised hip, badly bruised forearm, sore shoulder, and some pretty decent road/gravel rash on my knee, forearm, and hand. Oh, and I was about as far away from my house as I get on this particular route. You jinxed me!! ;-) On my long ride on Saturday, I was doing a turn a round in the middle of the rode and I was on a high gear and fell over!!! lol No one saw me and I had a few scratches from it so I am going to practice some slow turn a rounds some time. |

Came home to surprise breakfast from Hub and boys. Went to gym. Then hub surprised me with a massage! It was cold himalayin salt stones, it's very good for muscle soreness and inflammation, it feels like heaven. Went to mall to pick out birthday gift, sunglasses for bike/run (might exchange them bc I picked a whacky pair of oaklys not sure how great they are for sport, I liked another pair better but also thought they were more fashion less function...what do u guys wear??) then hung out at prospect park then changed into fancy clothes in the car went to this restraunt I've been dieing to try and had a 10 course tasting menu!! Think salmon tartar with a poached egg and sea beans, tounge and cheak meat pizza... Heaven but couldn't sit up strait... Then we went to this pottery place and threw clay on a pottery wheel and made bowls so relaxing.... And now I'm 28! It was such a special day I just had to share |

Expert 4924 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: Dream Chaser's 'Set a Goal and Capture it!' Mentor Group - CLOSED Hey, guys! Been traveling this week at a conference which was like 18 hours a day of work talk. I'm in an exciting new discipline that doesn't really have much to do with my company's core products, which is making life interesting to say the least. And my manager resigned while we were at the conference. Lots going on for sure. So, my April goals were (comments in Italics...) "I'm thinking about: Swim: 25K yards (16,150 total...would've hit 20K if not for bike mishap) Bike: 8-12 hours, depending on weather (I can't go past 90 minutes on the Expresso trainer without losing it) (just over 12 hours...pretty good bike month and it would've been about 14, again, if not for the bike mishap) Run: 80 miles (a manageable, steady, consistent increase from my 17 mi per week right now) (fell really short here at about 50 miles) Strength and core work: 1+ hour per week (about 3 hours...a little short of where I want to be) I also gotta finish splitting about one more cord of firewood and stacking it...lugging those rounds around is quite a workout. (got a bunch of this done and then my tree guy dumped about two more cords' worth of limbs and rounds...gotta love free wood but my yard looks like a wood pulp plant)" So overall for April, I'm pretty happy with a couple of things:
May goals, according to plan... S: 38350.00 Yd - 13h 45m (don't think this will happen because of road rash...going to shoot for 25K) My official triathlon plan started Sunday and I'm already scrambling things around because I can't swim yet and I was traveling Mon - Wed. Hope this big uptick in volume doesn't cause any injuries. The next six weeks are the base-building foundation of my July and August races so it's pretty important that I get the volume in. |

And to Greg too! I wear a cheapy pair of golf sunglasses I bought when I first started. They have pink shades which I like as the world looks like a happy bright place and the shades are big so the bugs ping off them but... they suck in the rain. On a rainy ride last year they were so brutal I had to push them down like bifocals to see. I'd like to get a new pair too just no clue what and... I hate shopping so it's painful trying to get me to store to ponder. I did manage to get some nice new cycling shorts - meant for women riding long distances. Very soft! |

Happy B-day!! I wear a pair of Bolle multi lens sunglasses. I like being able to switch out the lens colors depending on the light. |

They are the largest lens they make (so it protects the most from wind, sun) and they are polarized which gives me the best vision. |

It was such a special day I just had to share Happy Birthday, sounds like a great day. For sunglasses I use a pair I got from Performance probably over 10 years ago. They have held up well and are pretty inexpensive when compared to the more popular brands. I only have 1 lens left, but it did come with 3 when I bought the glasses, a clear, a yellow and dark for different conditions. |

So relax on the couch. Wrap it in an ace bandage. Pop an advil. And put ice on and off. |

Master 1531 TORONTO | Subject: RE: Dream Chaser's 'Set a Goal and Capture it!' Mentor Group - CLOSED Tuesday afternoon and I'm in a planning mood. After 3 seasons of dragging my family around Ontario to watch me participate in tris I decided this summer I would be considerate, flexible, and not schedule anything except for the August oly and focus on my cycling. You know it's VERY hard to look at an empty calendar while tri training!!! Really??? All that training and not doing ANYTHING until August?? So... I signed up for a sprint in July. I haven't told my hubby yet. I have chosen a location that is conveniently located near a trout fishing park and will position this as an EXCELLENT opportunity for him to bond with his daughter while fishing (which they both love to do) but ya... I won't be there!! At least I didn't forget my anniversary and book one for that day in error (like I did last year!). Everyone else hard at work? Hope your foot is feeling better soon Chava! |

Yes, working hard. Tired. Talk about scheduling for the family -- Rev3 Quassy is at a kids amusement park. Lake Placid is very family friendly town, and kids love the beach at mirror lake. And in November, I wanted to do the JFK 50-miler as my first ultra-marathon; but instead I decided I'm signing up for Philly because the wife really wants to go to Philly. There is a kids race in Philly on Saturday; and it will be an all-around better family trip than the JFK would be. So I hear you loud and clear, Marcia. |
