Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I got in a 4 mile run this morning (36:55) followed by a 2000 yard swim (32:46) in the pool, then 30 minutes of core strength training for good measure. I was hoping to get a measly 30 minute bike ride in, but yardwork and grilling steaks got in the way. MAY CHALLENGE - Andy S 1/B 0/R 1/Rest Days 0 - Total 1:09:41 |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() chris2533 - 2012-05-01 5:11 PM You have to work up very slowly running barefoot or minimalist. You are using your calves (and foot muscles and achilles) way more than you have in the past. Work up from a mile very slowly. As in, if you plan to run 5 miles, run 1/2 mile from home, run back, change into your shoes and then run another 4. Does the same apply to 4 mm drop shoes like the Brooks Pureflow? Thats exactly my concern, as my calves are tight to begin with. And do you have to make sure you are a mid-foot striker before even thinking about the change? I was thinking maybe alternate the pureflows (or similar option) with either the Kayanos or the Ravennas. Use the low drop shoes on my 3 milers and the "regular" shoes on my longer runs, at least at the beginning. |

I was thinking maybe alternate the pureflows (or similar option) with either the Kayanos or the Ravennas. Use the low drop shoes on my 3 milers and the "regular" shoes on my longer runs, at least at the beginning. The general idea of low drop shoes is to make it easier to mid foot strike. It's not like it's a disaster if you don't but where those shoes. They make it kind of hard to heel strike. The easiest way to not heel strike is to simply increase your cadence and have your foot land under your center of gravity (as opposed to out in front). In fact, if your foot lands underneath your center of gravity but hits heel first, that is probably fine. It's the locked knee foot way out in front heel strike that is considered a problem. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() No workouts from me yet this month but hope to go for a 30min ride shortly. Went to the Physio on Monday and have Tibialis Posterior Tendonitis. Went for run on Monday with it strapped up and sort of felt ok till i got home. No running this week till Saturday but it looks like it will be a long hard and sore run on Saturday. At least I then have a good excuse not to run for a month or so after as it heals it self again. Physio told me its an over use problem so hopefully when i get back to normal training it will go away.

Regular![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Today was a grueling day fro me. It was FTP test day. The good thing is that my FTP increased 26Watts (NP) from my test 8 weeks ago. After performing my warm up ritual before an FTP and a 42 minute test followed by a Z3 set and CD, I was able to get 1:20:00 in this morning for the bike.
