Extreme Veteran 1704 Penticton, BC | Subject: RE: Hashers And Mashers - Part 3 - Open I ran and swam again today. Had some fun but after my great day on Monday I paid for it yesterday and today big time. My thighs were so stiff and sore I could barely walk down stairs. I was laughing at myself but it sure hurt. Swimming today was pretty normal but when it came to running I had to start out really slowly and I held my pace down to about 5.6mph. Being as stiff as I am I figured it wouldn't be too smart to work too hard. Better to toughen up slowly rather than pushing myself into an injury. I don't have anything coming up for quite a while. There is an indoor Sprint in February that is quite different (based on how far you can go in set times rather than distance). I'm only mildly interested in it. The only reason to do it is they have quite a few good prizes and draws to give away. This year they only had 60 people or so and almost everyone got something. After that we don't have anything until May 10th there is a "Cherry Blossom Sprint" in Kelowna an hour north of us and I'll likely participate in it. Anyone else still have something coming up? |

413 | Subject: RE: Hashers And Mashers - Part 3 - Open I have a biathlon on Saturday. 1000 yds in the pool + 5k. Just for fun. Very limited attendance, but I did it last year and am doing it again as a point-in-time check against last year's fitness level. BTW, just got a Garmin 910xt on MAJOR sale. Last one in the store. They were clearing out the stock to make room for the 920xt. Can't wait for the mail on Monday!!! |

It's low key and I haven't decided how far I will run. It will depend on weather and how I feel. |

413 | Subject: RE: Hashers And Mashers - Part 3 - Open Mike -- Thanks! Pool will be 82 degrees with air temps in the mid-50's. Should be quite a chilling experience! Is your "ultra" the race you did last year where you try to run a 5k each hour until you drop? |

Yep, same race. 4.1 mile loops through the woods starting at the top of every hour. |

Member 1293 Pearland,Tx | Subject: RE: Hashers And Mashers - Part 3 - Open looks like everyone is still going. I took a month break in Nov after that DNS , but i figured its harder to go back training again i got back 3 weeks ago but feels sluggish. I only started getting serious hours last week hopefully ill be consistent. Also Joe recommended Skratch labs , they are the best drink that dont upset my tummy. Anyway just thought to drop by will be posting somemore Cheers |

Last year I did 7 loops which was my longest run by about 11 miles. Race report is here if anyone is bored :-). http://blog.ransick.org/2013/12/my-first-ultra.html With a break every lap and running trails at a slow pace, 29 miles was much easier than a marathon. |

413 | Subject: RE: Hashers And Mashers - Part 3 - Open Well, 2013-14 is in the books! The biathlon was fun but in the end a bit disappointing. I was hoping to see some real progress since last year, which I know I've made in many areas. However, the swim was slower, and the run was about the same. I felt really fast on the run, but the final time was not consistent with how hard I was pushing it. Oh well. Off to the off-season. I'm putting together 2014-15, and I'm looking to do 3 oly's, a "classic", a sprint or two, and some running races. Off-season will have some longer running races. First 10k race ever in 2 weeks, and looking to do a couple longer ones. |

Extreme Veteran 1704 Penticton, BC | Subject: RE: Hashers And Mashers - Part 3 - Open Looks as though we've gone pretty quiet, eh. I'm willing to stay if there are enough of us to start again (hopefully with some newbies as well) but right now it just looks like two of us. Today at the pool was my last official swim day of the year so we really only fooled around by doing a couple relay races in teams. Kind of interestingly different challenges like carrying a lit candle for a length of the pool without letting it go out. The highlight of the day was a couple runs on the water slide. We only get to do it on our last day of the year but this was my 3rd time. I still have a couple weeks of s/b/r before the years end but so far my tally for swimming in 2014 is 236673yds. Not a lot compared to some of the strong swimmers here on BT but for me it is amazing considering I've only been swimming for 3 years (exactly). |

That's an impressive swimming total to me too. I don't think I ever broke 100k yards in a year. Good work! |

Extreme Veteran 1704 Penticton, BC | Subject: RE: Hashers And Mashers - Part 3 - Open Merry Christmas Mike (and anyone else who may drop in for a quick look). At the pool today I topped 240,000yds for this year with two more swims to go before the ed of the year. I'll also get maybe another 3 runs in this year but I'm done with my cycling. |

136 Kalispell, Montana | Subject: RE: Hashers And Mashers - Part 3 - Open Starting to get back into it. It is amazing how fast I lose "it". I took a month off and feel like I lost three months of fitness. Comes with age I guess. I got my first smartphone over the holidays and have been checking out tri related apps and podcasts. Do any of you utilize these and have any fav's? |
