jmkizer - 2011-11-04 10:21 AM Photos are up at birdseyeview.net.  I'm very excited!

Don't forget to check out the swim pix.  Found 2 of myself, plus the 5 with my bib #.  I have to buy 'em, this being my 1st IM & all. Prob will buy the RAW digital images so I can play Photoshop over the winter Wink

I don't know if everyone else is feeling this way, but really happy to take a some time off from working out for the first few days.... though now I feel like I need to get back to training.  Too soon?

There seems to be a lot of different opinions on this , so maybe there is no right answer I swam 500 yesterday first thing I did, Been stretching and walking a little, might get on the trainer for about 45 minutes during the football games tomorrow as that had been a ritual.

I am a little older so I won't do much for the first 2 weeks, man Time for us first timers not so important if it makes you happy you were faster then me. 13:30 and I am thrilled to have that I'll go faster my next time it was a lot of fun!

I would be interested from some of the more knowledgable guys on when to return to training.

I woke this morning and I am still an Ironman!

I've read various things on post-IM recovery. One rule of thumb is a day off (of everything) for each hour it took. Matt Ftizgerald training plans, which I'm looking at for next year, are 1 week off of everything, then second week is activities (such as hiking) other than sbr.

So I've been enjoying a post-IM do nothing routine, but I'm starting to feel like a slug, so despite all the expert advice, I think I'm going to hit the pool next week a couple of times for some light swimming. Followed by a soak in whirlpool.  Wink

I swam twice this past week (Wed and Sat), ran once (Fri), and biked twice (Thurs and Sat). Everything has been at a super easy pace though. It'll be at least another week before I start to up the intensity a bit.

No finisher photo for me   I ended up being right behind #391.  I didn't see anyone in front of me during my sprint to the finish.  Too much zig-zagging at the end I guess   Now you have random guy in your finisher photo, sorry 391.

That stinks! I was finishing right next to someone else and I did not want that to happen ot my finish shot! So, I dug deep and "sprinted" past to have it to myself!

I amazed myself by actually considering this "ruined photo" possibility after 13+hrs of s/b/r.  I dropped back to avoid getting in someone else's finishing shot, & "sprinted" to avoid having someone else in mine.  Honestly don't know why that was 1st thought in my mind coming down the chute.

I flew down the chute passing someone in the maze because I thought he was in my age group...that's even worse after 13 plus hours

Little did I know that someone in my AG was seconds behind me. With that maze of a finish chute, in poor lighting, going over gravel patches and through port-o-pots and tents, I was too focused on "don't trip" and "where is the finish?" Didn't smile until I passed over the finish line. Since the camera didn't capture the smile, does it count towards meeting my goal of finishing with a smile on my face?

BTW, my athlete's guide arrived in the mail today.

Did your athlete's guide say "2012"?  Maybe it's just really early....

Heh..it sure does.

The only thing I don't like about a late season race is that there's no other tri to put on the calendar until the next year.

I don't have a coach, but I'm not doing anything anyway Actually I have been back to the gym, and even started a little yoga.  I won't be doing any s/b/r until training starts for next year

+1/2.  Between calf injury & overall tired feeling I've only done a couple easy spins on the bike.  But another part of me is itching for some Z4 HR action.  And my appetite still thinks it needs to fuel 15+hr training weeks.   Yell

The post-IM appetite thing has been a toughie for me. . This time around I made a more determined effort to not graze in the evenings - I've been known to go through half a box of granola without thinking about what I was doing - and so far, I'm maintaining. Last year I was bad, very bad.

I always feel this huge surge of ambition after a race but the legs generally don't want to play along. I think my brain is trying to kill me.

Too funny!  I was going through half a box of cereal every evening, too!  It became a habit that is hard to break.

How the transport of athletes/family back to Wilmington workout this year with the added buses?  How'd the bike transport workout, any worries on how the bikes were loaded, etc?

Considering going back to B2B in 2012 for the half and don't want to end up in the nightmarish waits I saw while out on the full course in 2009.  Read a few race reports and didn't see any mention of it.

I finished (full) in just over 13hrs & found no long waits.  Neither I nor DW waited for more than a second bus or trolley during the entire event this year.  After event (& fluids, pizza, etc) I got my bike on 2nd trolley in line back to downtown, so minimal wait. There was a longer wait for the water taxi, but only because more people wanted a boat ride.  Heard no one complain about transport wait times at awards cruise on Sun AM so I assume this year was much better than 2009.  This was my 1st B2B & I found logistics to be VERY well handled.  Hard to imagine how a point-to-point race could be done much better.
