amy mutz - 2009-01-12 5:13 AM Hello and Good Morning to you BT group. I hope it's a great day/week for everyone. Well I did my weigh in and lost 3 pounds, I wanted more but I will take it. What about anyone else? I would like to do a little weight loss challenge if it's ok with Julie. Maybe we could put the people that want to lose 10 in a group, the people that want to lose 20 in a group and so on... I will give the winner in each group a T-shirt with a motivational saying on it and their name. What does everyone think??? I know I want to lose 30, any other takers? Quote for the day: Anyone that thinks they can...CAN. Anyone that thinks they CAN'T...Can't. It is a matter of ATTITUDE! Amy IN

Im in! That is a GREAT idea Amy..and very nice of you to throw in the t-shirts. I would like to be in the 20 and maybe 30 to lose group! I weighed in first thing... lost 3 pounds too! I would have loved it to say 5 lbs...but that will be next week...hopefully!!! who else is in this weigh in????

obtw...Amy silkscreens t-shirts for a living...so, if you are ever needing these for personal or your business...make sure you get a quote from her. is there anyone else out there that has their own business that would like to promote it here? please do!

 I MEAN....

ha ha ~~~ go out and make it a good one....and great week!

I sent each of you a personal message...please make sure to answer me asap...thanks!

lyssa-gator - 2009-01-11 1:33 PM ok, so i threw this idea out to julee a while back, and she keeps telling me to tell you guys and see what you think, but i seem to get on here and get all worked up about what you are all saying, then i forget. anyway, here was my idea, i think we should have a monthly award on here that our dearest most wonderful mentor GPOL will award- trophy Pictures, Images and Photos something like this, but it'll have to say the month on it. then you can post it in your blog for however long you want. anyway, the award will go to the triathlete that julee feels most deserving--maybe someone who finishes their first race? maybe someone who loses 5 pounds, maybe someone who overcomes their fear of open water, whatever it is--julee awards the GPOL trophy at the end of each month. what do you guys think?

sounds good to me!

I agree with Isabelle that it is a good idea, and rewards an individual for going the extra mile in various area ie: training, races, or overcoming obstacles...
Sounds good.  Can I nominate Julie to get it for January?  I don't think that she'll ever nominate herself...
I agree...JULIE IS A JEWEL...I think she deserves it!!! Amy IN

thanks Amy....I am very honored by your statement and love this idea that Lyssa came up with! it is going to be very hard for me to chose who will get these monthly awards...cuz already we have an amazing amount of accomplishments among this group!

Morning!

I had a bad swim today. I just didn't have any energy. I was supposed to be doing sprint sets alternating with regular sets but it just wasn't happening. I nearly gave it up completely around the halfway mark but managed to finish off 90% of of my intended workout. Can I go back to bed?

we all have those days...and yes you can go back to bed....you just tell your boss that we said it is ok...wont that be ok, then????

seriously....dont fret Nicole...just go back on your next swim day and let her rip! I will swim the other 10% for you, if that helps!?!?....anything for my team! hope your day is a good one.

Can everyone PM me what amount they want to lose 10-20 or 30 llbs, if you want to lose more you can do that on your own once you meet the goal here, I just wanted to make it simple, and not have to do percentages or two many different loss goals. If you have a better idea let me know. We can start with last weeks weigh in weight, you don't have to tell me your weight, just your loss amount desired in 10-20 or 30 group.

This will be fun and get us excited about getting the extra weight off, and that will make us all healthier, faster and just overall feel better about ourselves.

Let's go group!!!!

i'm in too!! i did my weigh in yesterday and was UP from my original 145, but down from what i was last week. only down a pound, but hey--i think of pounds as boxes of butter. that's one less box of butter hanging around my arse. LOL
i'm in the weight loss thing for 10. i'd like to say 20-but i tend to overdo it, i think realistically 10 is where i need to be.
i am kinda sorta thinking about a bike ride today. i've never ridden in the cold. i'm trying to decide if i should attempt it? or go ride the stationary. i think stationary is going to win out, but it remains to be seen.

happy monday everyone!!

I agree -- if you can manage it, outside is FREEDOM!  Pedaling and going nowhere drives me crazy, even worse than trudging along on a treadmill.

if you can get out and there is no wet or slick roads.....go outside and get that fresh air! I rode yesterday and it was clear skies...but brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr cold! I think it was in the low 40s when we started and upper 50s when we ended. I layered and had no booties, half finger gloves and was pretty darn toasty!

Lyssa...can you send me a list of what you wanted from me? thanks...and pm me your address. I am trying to sort thru things so I can place whatever did not get taken on the BT Pay it Forward thread...Thanks darling and have a great day...inside or out!

Hey!

I would love to be in your group, I feel that you would be a perfect match for me and I feel that I too, could contribute to the group!

This is my first mini triathalon, I will be competting in April and it consists of a 400 yd swim, 14 mile bike, and 3 mile run. I used to run cross country and track at Texas A&M University, but don't have too much biking/ swimming experience. Is there any words of advice you have for the beginning and first week/s training and what they should consist of?

Thanks,

Brooke Lynne

Hi Brooke Lynn,

WELCOME TO OUR GROUP! we were initially closed, but after asking the team - everyone that I have heard from said they would love to have you as a teamy! We will do all we can to get you prepared and ready for that tri in April...so hop right in and join the conversation. We all look forward to getting to know you. Please make sure that you begin logging your workouts in your log area....we have a chart that we will update with your name added to it so that it easy for us all to access each others training logs so that we can check up and keep each other on track and also send inspiring messages. Have a great Monday and week...

PS....I sent you a pm (personal message) with this same info.

Happy monday all!  I managed to go for a swim this morning, and hope to get some trainer time in this weekend.  It all depends on what the family bonding plan is for this evening.  Now, if I could get them all on trainers.  To bad we don't have enough trainers. .

Congrats to everyone on moving their little tickers down...not that it should be a big deal if you didn't! We should all be feeling pretty grand after a great week/weekend of training and looking ahead to this week. The sun is shining in Calgary (though I only get to look at it from inside), and I think we might actually be in positive temps all week! (Check for flying pigs!

Our tri club meets tonight for spin class- my legs are still a bit tight from Thursday's track workout. I have been wondering why they are killing me as running typically doesn't cause me this much pain and I just remembered that our coach had us do a zillion lunges. They get me every time and I always have such a tough time recovering from lunges. I used to do a lot of weight training but lunges, even without weights, would cause DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness). Anyone have thoughts? I hate the fact that I feel that all of my workouts that follow suffer.

What a great concept that would be eh? Well you could always set up a little circuit! On the bike while someone else does crunches, and someone else does pushups and rotate!

Course you can, Nicole! Tell your boss I said you could take the day off.

As for the swim, shake it off and move on! When was the last time you had a rest day? That is, a day with no planned training (other activities are okay, but no plan is allowed)? I sometimes find that I'm flat when I don't rest and flat right after I rest. It's an important point when it comes to figuring out how to train in the days leading up to races. We can postpone that conversation to nearer race season, though.

Hope you feel better next time!

That "Thank god it's Monday" post cracks me up! Back to work after another vacation. Didn't get to the gym this weekend, but I did make it to the gym 4 out of the 7 days and to be honest I dont think I have ever been to the gym that often since high school (when it was mandatory)!

I will go tonight and try to do a brick..nothing too crazy, but I just feel the program I'm working with is a little on the beginner end. Maybe a little biking followed by a nice run.  Good news..I heard back from the pool and I can get name on the wait list. turns out the girl I was speaking to the entire time had just started working there and was a little confused...so we cleared that up and now need to keep our fingers crossed that there will be and opening for me!

Congrats to all of you who got workouts in and lost some LBS!!

Great idea for a mini brick, Monica! My tri coach gets us to do a bit of running after we ride just to get used to that 'my legs are jello' feeling when you first get off the bike and have to do the run. A good little simulation for at least part of the tri.
