mchally - 2009-10-28 12:44 AM I'd forgotten how painful it is to run in the cold.  It was 44 degrees out for my last run and my nostrils hurt soooooo frickin bad that I got all teary eyed.  Fortunately it only lasted a few minutes.  Is there anything you can do to prevent this?

Be glad that you don't live where it actually gets cold

Donskiman - 2009-10-27 9:39 PM If the spreadsheet is up-to-date, it looks like 2 people have essentially sabataged the hard efforts of the rest of the team, and another person may not have been able to workout as planned because of illness. Many people have pushed through injuries to reach their goals for the team and they are to be commended.

Hopefully the people who are well behind their goals have simply failed to log and post  - and will do so before the challenge ends.

Congrats to everyone who has already achieved their goals and those on track to reach them by Saturday.

Unfortunately, this is fairly typical for a challenge. Best intentions and all that. I'll see if I can prod them a bit.

Yes, I have participated in challenges before and I know this is typical. It's one thing when people have good intentions and fail to follow through when they're on their own, and quite another when their apathy sabatages the hard efforts of the rest of the team. IMO, people who were already well behind their goal by the halfway point should have dropped out to be fair to their team.

I do admire the people who have determinedly pushed on despite being injured, sore, or sick.

Can you run inside or on a treadmill  say 10-15 minutes before you go out ?  that way you have warmed up before you head out.

My nostrils didn't start burning badly until I stopped running.  My airways were only moderately uncomfortable during the run.

I vaguely recall having worn a scarf across my nose and mouth during my runs last winter to help keep my airways happy.

Have you tried a light coating of vaseline around your nostrils to alleviate the burn.

Saw my foot doc this morning; he says it's time to get back to running and no more PT. He says to start with vigorous walking, 2 miles this weekend, ice afterward. From there I keep at the vigorous walking twice a week and start to add in a very little bit of jogging, ice afterward. Continue to increase the distance and frequency of the running but build it up very slowly. He said that 3 months of rest, cortisone, and 2 months of therapy is enough to get this better and that basically I should push through the pain! I'm scared!

I'm gonna talk to my therapist about what I can/should do at home.

Wish me well!

Hiya all - bad teammate Shawn checking in.  Sorry I haven't been updating the spreadsheet as I should have.  Between work picking up unexpectedly and planning for my wedding in another two weeks, time was at even more of a premium than I even imagined when I set my very modest goal.

Don't worry though, I won't be sabatoging all of your hard work because I am in the eye of the storm and should hit my goal by the 31st.  I'm sorry I haven't participated in the group more but at least I won't be holding you all back.  Congrats to all who have hit or will hit their goals this week and thanks for letting me tag along with you!

I will trade your cool weather for my 26 degrees and wind gusts over 40. Not pleasant at all.
