No problem, if you get any more videos send them on over.  That goes for anyone who can take video of them swimming and wants some help just let me know...

golfpro - 2010-01-03 7:08 PM I have tried that as well the only down fall is it generates moisture and in turn your feet will get cold after a while. I've also used aluminum foil in toes, then a wool sock, then a grocery bag on top of that and put another wool sock- that was the worse combo I've ever done. 45 min into the ride I was NUMB. btw.... thanks for the comment on the video swim.
evondo - 2010-01-02 6:46 PMGrocery bags work good too, wear them over socks inside of shoe and tuck in the ends after you tie them around your leg or bad things happen. Right Justin?

bzgl40 - 2010-01-02 4:38 PM
Houstonrider - 2010-01-02 11:09 AM Quick question...... How do ya'll keep your feet from freezing when riding in the winter. It was 37 degrees when we started today and 41 degrees at the end of the ride and my toes were numb. I was using wool winter riding socks and might as well have been sock less.

If it is really cold and/or wet I use neoprine booties that just slip on over my regular shoes.  They can make you feet sweat though and if your out long enough you might still get cold.  I've started carrying a second pair of socks.  I also have some covers that slip on over half my shoe that cut the wind which are warm enough for chilly days if it is dry.  If it is REALLY cold I use both.
Similiar to these...

I'm jealous of all the snow sports, although I hate the cold I love snowboarding

gavisk - 2010-01-03 7:24 PM Happy New Year to all, and I hope everyone had a great holiday.

I just got back from the holiday break this afternoon.  Been snowboarding, skiing, and snowshoeing for 9 of the last 10 days, and somehow managed to not break anything.  Ready to get into a good SBR routine beginning tomorrow, as in spite of all the snow sports I feel like I've been sedentary.  Too much beer, maybe.  That's one of my 2010 goals:  cut back on the beer 'considerably' (I prefer my abstinence goals to be somewhat vaguely defined).

I have friends that have used something similar to those straps and loved them.  I've never used them though so can't give you any first hand experience...

For the half, don't worry about it just adjust your expectations based on your current situation and enjoy the race.

KeriKadi - 2010-01-03 7:33 PM Ken and I are both gimpy today - My ITB really flared up after my first post Christmas run yesterday and Ken's really bothered him on his run today.  Lots of laying around and football watching.

Has anybody used one of these?http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000OQLUZ4/ref=s9_simp_gw_s0_p200_t1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=18CDWNZ88M6G6RB3545D&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846

I figure it's not very pricey so might be worth a shot?
I am very worried about my half in 2 weeks.

Ouch, hope ya get the rest of that splinter out... it can't make running feel very good that's for sure!!!

loeber - 2010-01-03 9:49 PM I've been having a tender spot on the ball of my right foot for the last 2-3 days and I just figured it was a little bit of bruising from a pebble I had in my sock on NYE. It hadn't stopped me and didn't hurt that bad so I didn't really pay it much attention. This morning after my ride I decided to check it out a little more and found a little black dot... Splinter and it has been festering for the last three days... I decided to have a little swim and soften the skin to make removal a little easier. Sadly it also softened the splinter and now I have a half size splinter infecting the sole of my right foot.... yay... Hurts to put any weight on it. I will give it tonight to settle down and try again in the morning with a needle and tweezer...

Thanks!  I think I'll go ahead and order it.

My only expectation for the half was to finish.  My concern is that I will injure myself further and that will impact my tri season.
Lots of stretching and icing in my future the next 2 weeks.

Nice ride on the 1st, cadence is hard to keep up for the monster hills but spinning up the hills is a lot better for the run if you've got enough gears to do it...

It sure is easier spinning uphills but riding with that group ride is different- I like the racing style and is constant upbeat, pace is high and usually 35+ miles a clip. It has helped with my base and learned to be "technical" when it comes to peloton/team racing.
I have read enough to understand that this is good for once in a while and to break up monotony for biking as endurance racing is keeping same pace, or at least trying to maintain for a longer period of time. Let me get off before I get off on a tangent. Too bad we can't write the inspires in the forum. A lot of clicking to get to everyone rather than seeing it in one window for all.

I knew I forgot to add something- I have an 11-26 cassette- I am looking to changing it to a 12-27. I hardly use the 11 unless I am on a downhill or a semi flat going for an all out sprint and usually it does not last more than 20 seconds- Your thoughts? Anyone?

I agree with you... it's good to change up riding styles during training as long as you're comfortable with knowing what you plan to do on race day and have trained that way before.  I have some long rides where I put gearing at 1/2 cogs harder than I'm comfortable at and hold it that way the entire ride. I'd never race this way of course but it's good to shock the legs sometimes out of the norm

For which cassette to use, it depends on the course you're racing. I'd pickup another cassette to race with that would better match your abilities/course. I train on a 11/23 and use the 11 quite a bit for force training but I race with a 12/23 or 12/25 depending on the course. Most courses I race on are flat with little speed bumps that us flat landers call hills...

For whatever is worth- some of you posted your totals and with good numbers.

Here are mine and I started posting Oct.4th- curious to see what they will look like six months from now. As you can see I have negleted the weakest event, running-  So as of December I have had one goal in mind and is to get the mileage up in running. Most of the miles in running came in Dec.
2009 totals
Bike:54h 26m 59s  - 857.97 Mi
Run:20h 12m 25s  - 126.1 Mi
Swim:12h 42m 02s  - 46712.82 Yd
Bike Trainer:1h 50m
Rowing:20m
Spinning Class:1h 00m

Heading to the basement for some Gergil Spin- we'll see how long that lasts before I get off. Temp outside is 12. Really contemplating doint it outside but the down fall is the wind is around 10 to 15 mph.

You definitely don't want to do that. Do you think walking most of the race would cause you injury? If you really think you'll injure yourself, skip the race and get ready for the next one...

Sounds like everyone's had a good start to 2010. Keep up the hard work on all of your training. Today is going to be spent cleaning, doing laundry and packing for my trip back up to Clemson tomorrow. I am going to take a break for a few hours and go riding (first time in 9 months) which I am really excited about. Wednesday I'll get back to being really serious about training again. Hope everyone's had a good start to their week.

Sounds like everyone is coming out of vacation and ready to hit it hard.  Anyone using the BT training plans?  I decided to upgrade to silver and plug in the basic silver HIM plan.  I originally had in the Bronze beginner one but decided it was way to light.  This is going to be my first HIM but I am fairly use to the distances and then some of the bike and run.  I imagine I'll tweak it quite a bit as I go along though, especially the bike due to the number of centuries I plan on riding this year.

I went to swimplan and printed a work out, found the too small suit and squeezed in, woke up the teenager to watch the girls, packed everything up and headed out.  Got to the Y and was told it is too cold to swim.  Ummmmm I think if *I* can put on a suit they should be able to sit there in sweats and a coat to 'lifeguard'.  They told me it has to be at least 45 degrees though they couldn't show me where that information is available so I would have known ahead of time.
Not happy.

30 minutes of home surgery and I am splinter free, Epsom salt soak to pull any inflamation out and I think I may even run on it tonight. (elliptical at least)

That so bites.  That happened to me once here but at least I did not have to do all the arranging of schedules you have to do.  Our pool is indoors but it was closed cause their broiler broke.

Drop the 'Y' and join 24 or LA Fit... I know, I know, your girls... just seems like the 'Y' is always a problem.

Try some water running if your knee is still bothering you...

I used the same plan for my first HIM. I added volume to the plan here and there and felt very prepared going into the race.
