Fred D - 2012-08-12 1:44 AM Swim run today and the calf behaved pretty well. One thing i need to tell myself over and over (and please tell me to remind me) that I need to start the bike portion and then the run portion very easy. I started with 8:30s for the first 2 miles and then by the end was effortlessly mid 7s by he end of my run. START SLOW FRED!

Goood calf. Good Fred.

And Fred?

START THE BIKE AND THE RUN SLOWLY!!!

Had a really good swim this morning considering how dead my body feels after the past few days of workouts. Did 4x200m fr fast with 50ez kick between each one. Held 2:51-2:52 for the first three and "last one, fast one" of 2:48!

In my AG F50-54 every swim split was under an hour!

Rene that is our kind of swim

Strong advantage to those weaker swimmers who lose time on the swim.

. Yeah, not only does the actual time spent swimming decrease but it helps your bike and run splits as you are less of a deficit for hydration and nutrition than of you were to be in the water 30' more. It's why you can't compare times on one course to another course.

Absolutely true Fred!

My fastest and slowest IM swim times are over 20 minutes apart and made a big difference on the bike and I suspect on the run. For me my swim fitness shows up more in how I feel after the swim on bike/run than my swim time.

I heard 2000 folks were under an hour....crazy fast. Almost everyone came in within 20 minutes.

I have nothing to say except "START SLOW FRED". We should get signs like on Forrest Gump. "STOP FORREST STOP". Haha.

Melissa,
It is so funny that you wrote that about Forrest Gump. Where did all of the bikes come from the last 2 miles of Jordon Rapp's run at IMNY? It reminded me of the scene in Forrest Gump when the runners are following him.

Got off the dive boat yesterday afternoon, sitting on my balcony on the 4th of the king Kam hotel, looking down at the banyan (?) tree, the kona pier, and Dig Me Beach. Breakfast at lava java. Being a Tri geek, seeinga this is awesome. Would love to be here during the race. Swam 5 miles on the kona course this morning, thrill of swimming the course was soon replaced by pain of swimming that distance. I'll be glad when the 10k swim is done. Actually ran into-literally ran into - a green turtle this morning. He/ she just hung out on the surface with me, chilling and breathing. Was cool since usually I see them on scuba and I am much too loud and bubbly for their liking. Have to admit i was thinking about the 14 foot tiger shark I saw on the surface at honokahou harbor yesterday morning, just around the point, while setting up my tank.....

Being there during the race is amazing!  We've been there for it twice and it's an incredible experience.  The energy in the place for the week is unreal.

Sounds like you are having an amazing trip Chris, I'm really jealous.

Fred, START OUT SLOW!!!

Got in a good 80 mile ride.  Felt really easy even though I was putting in a lot of 80%+ efforts.  90 mile ride tomorrow with the big boys.

Up early this morning to go volunteer at a local tri/du.  The weather forecast isn't great so I may end up standing in the rain for a few hours.    Hope not!!

Supposed to go to the pool today too but I'm not sure if I can make it when the lane swims are open - will have to wait and see.

Edit - I just looked at the pool schedule.  Lane swim open all day - there goes that excuse...

Super race when I did it. Impressive town support.

BTers doing the race the year I did it, 2009, were for most part not into the group BT thing I've participated at other IMs. I met a few folks but not many.

Where are you flying into or are you driving? Where are you staying?

Driving from the Seattle area and I have some barebones motel since I registered late, but oh well.  It's closer to Skaha Lake but not too bad for getting over to the start line.
