I had an even better time in the beer garden. There must have been 20 of them along the ride. people sitting in the sun. drinking beer and waving at you. Do you go to the beer garden with Mom ? Tomorrow I am off to Poland so expect some perogi shots from my run
I sure did. My mother loves to dance and they'd often have oom-pah-pah bands in the evenings. Oh and even the kids will get a wee beer there I loved southern Germany. The Northerners were polite in the big cities but there was still a lot of prejudice against the furr'ners in the small towns back then. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() A little disappointed with my sprint today. I shouldn't be. I missed the podium by a minute, and I swam an extra 50 because my lap counter screwed up, and I wasn't sure until some spectators confirmed it for me. I think if I had those 40 seconds back, I would have been able to run down the other girl in my age group. My splits were actually decent, especially for the training I've been doing lately (or lack thereof). My knee is barely swollen. I guess I just wanted to end the season on a higher note! On the bright side: 5 friends and 1 coaching client finished their first tri today Edited by ratherbeswimming 2012-10-14 4:51 PM |

Guess you swam so darn fast that the counter couldn't keep up. That would frustrate me. It's not that hard to count |

![]() In the Kona predictions thread I jokingly predicted that some guy would be biking and running in yellow crocs. Well, basically because I know a guy that does that. No, he's not a ubber fast guy, he got in through the lottery, so don't go out buying crocs to KQ. Early in the race, someone took a picture oh him mounting his bike (crocs with spds on the bottom) and posted it on Ironmanlive.com's updates. It's currently on page 10 at the 2:15 mark. Then, Chrissie Wellington was out on the run course cheering and she actually stopped him because of his crocs, took a picture with him, then actually kissed his crocs which was kind of weird. LOL. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() bzgl40 - 2012-10-15 8:20 AM Marathon is a local one on Nov 11th. It's kind of just second fiddle. I need to work on my long run. So training is as training is. After the marathon I plan to keep a long run on Sunday with running 5 days a week. My bike focus will start after marathon recovery.I have also been thinking if I could put in 15-20% more effort into training I could make a run on the big shows. But then again it all depends on the day and who shows up.Just some strength training and a short run for me today. 18 miles? You got a marathon on the schedule James? |

![]() | ![]() Those darn elk are so stealthy. Jenny (my dog) and I decided on a trail run this morning but after the second elk darn near scared the poop out of me we decided to turn around and just do the road instead. They are still in rut season and the last thing I wanted was to find the buck, especially with the dog. My dog is pretty darn lazy though, she barely even glanced at them. Too much trouble to chase. |

That is a great compliment! And congrats on the 18 miles. My quads are still a little achy this morning. I'm hoping to get out for a short, easy run this afternoon. I have a question about recovery, but I'm going to start a new post. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I think I'm not doing the recovery part very well, but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. After the race Saturday, I stretched, drank some Gatorade, ate a banana, and then had some tea. I drove back home, stopping at Wendy's to grab lunch for everyone because I knew I wouldn't feel up to fixing anything. Breakfast was still going on, so I grabbed breakfast Paninis for everyone. I had one as well. After eating, I went to bed and slept for about three hours. I felt okay. Made dinner, did laundry, etc. . . Then crashed at about 8:00. Got the kiddos to bed or settled, and then I went to bed. I was asleep by 10:00 and not up until 8:00 the next day. I felt okay and ate pancakes for breakfast, coffee. Then I got myself and two kids to church. I was not feeling well, but I made it through church and out for lunch, but I was grumpy and not very focused. After lunch, I went to bed and slept until nearly 4:30 p.m. I wanted to take my little guy for a bike ride, but I was very weak and dizzy. I pulled myself together and we went on our bike ride at about 5:15, and I actually felt a little better. But I was still really grumpy. My oldest son even asked me what I was upset about because I was snapping at everyone. Of course, I snapped at him that I there was nothing wrong. lol This morning, I am still foggy. Better, I guess, but I kept making mistakes in my class this morning. And I have two more classes. And I think I have not written all of this very well. Is all of this from racing? Dehydration? (As I review my weekend, I really can't point to how much water I drank. Hmmm.) The cold I'm still trying to recover from? I'm drinking water now. I had a bowl of oatmeal. And I'm snacking on some apple slices. I keep waiting to feel better, but I'm not feeling it yet. Do I just need to HTFU and be patient? Or is there something I'm not doing that I need to do? |

It kind of sounds like dehydration to me. Unless you actually feel hungry I don't think it is fuel, although you might want to add some protein to your meals as everything you mentioned is carb heavy so maybe you have a carb hangover right now. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() KansasMom - 2012-10-15 10:48 AM Recovery is different for everybody. What you did post race sounds about right. For me after a hard race, I need hydration, electrolyte, protein, crabs and rest. I try to avoid sugar and caffeine. Although after Ironman I have some Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia stashed away. I will usual do a swim the next day followed by ez stuff the rest of the week. Then again it is hard to ignore good old fasion rest. As far as the mental state I have no clue. I can see being cranky, and out of it a bit. I never paid attention to it but it should subside.I think I'm not doing the recovery part very well, but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Just getting back from a weekend at the beach in beautiful San Diego Congrats to those who raced. I had to make do with crappy updates on my tablet from Kona. However, did I hear correctly that the NBC version will air at the end of October this year? |

Love that it is earlier (relevant), but have also grown accustomed to it being in December...watching it has been sort of a holiday-style tradition. |

As has been oft repeated, this thread moves fast! I have already started trying to improve my swim (thanks Arend and others). I think Saturday's race in Kona confirmed the importance of the swim for all, and not just those at the "pointy end" of the field. |
