I just tried to make a reservation and was given the options of 4pm or 9pm.  When I said thanks, but I'll check elsewhere the person who answered the phone said "good luck finding anything at this time of year"...

Um... yeah.  Way to be rude to a potential customer.  That was just dumb.

FYI - I wanted to respond with "whatever, lata beeyatch!"  but instead opted for the "thanks for the info" and hung up.

Ha!  I figured I must have called right at the beginning of the lunch rush or something, but still no excuse to be that rude!  Actually, no... tapering would be an acceptable excuse.

Go find her. Be all `You were rude to the wrong person!' and then pull her sweater up over her head and uppercut her until you both fall down and the refs separate you. That's Canadian Style!

I'm sure it just depends on where you want to go.  I was trying to get a reso at Joe's Seafood place as we've got a really good friend in town tonight who LOVES seafood - and I ended up getting a reservation no problem at Catch 35 instead.  I don't think you'll really have any problems, the girl I was talking to just had a huge chip on her shoulder.

Your problem was the hang-up part. In the middle of lunch rush, you say? the conversation should have gone like this:

Her: "good luck finding anything at this time of year"...

You: Actually you are right. I'll take the 7:00 reservation

Her: 7:00 is not available. 4pm or 9pm

You: Yes. 7:00 is fine

Her: I SAID 7:00 IS NOT AVAILABLE. 4 PM or 9 PM

You: Oh, sorry. My mistake. In that case write me down for 8:00.

Her: Are you stupid????

You: Do you think we could get a table by the window. At 8:00, all the lights reflecting on the snow. beautiful. So we are set for 8:00, right?

You: Hello? Hello? are you there?

5 mi later - call again: HI, wanted to confirm an 8:00 reservation. 2 people. table by the window.

This way, she's the one flustered after the conversation, and you are in a better mood than before the call. WIN-WIN

Do you mind if I post a TriTalk question?

Why is it that hammering the power on one of those fancy spin bikes up to 300 watts for an entire hour results in a shorter total distance than the girl next to me who had a lower RPM and lower wattage the whole time?  Shouldn't more power equal more distance?

Assuming that the two bikes are both calibrated correctly, yes... but that's not always the case.

I guess it's fair though.  Afterall, moving 225 lbs requires more power than moving 115 lbs.

But you fail with your post because you didn't call me stupid and tell me to practice flip turns...

power = work/time

work = force x distance

force = mass x acceleration

power = mass x accel. x distance / time

more power = more distance only at equal mass and time.

QED.

I'm in love! Meh, let's elope to Bethlehem (although we first have to take care of our pesky spouses)

oh man i missed this proposal by going out to lunch.  do you mean bethlehem, PA?  cause that would just be weird.
