Expert 2811 | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (5th season) - Closed JoePetto - 2013-01-09 8:14 PM My daughter is submitting an essay tomorrow for a sixth grade writing assignment about someone interesting she knows. So while at dinner, I had the pleasure to read the following paragraph: Now my dad is still swimming, biking, and running, but he improved so much through out the years. Even though he started old for a triathlete, that never slowed him down. Actually, he is one of the only people that I know who wants to get older. He wants to do a FULL Ironman when he turns 45! My dad isn’t a dreamer, he is a believer, and that’s why he is the most interesting person I know!
Great paper! Its so cool when the kids get it. My wife is doing better. Emergency remicade treatment took care of the problem. Now just getting her strength back and being able to eat and she will be fine. |

Not sure about this challenge, I guess it keeps people honest but my runs are certainly not on par with many posted here. It's all about consistency and effort, not ability. Ability comes with consistency and effort. As far as the challenge goes, if you run it counts, if you have to slow your pace, it still counts. If you go for a walk or a hike it doesn't. The only competition is doing your workouts and time spent. Don't worry about speed, we aren't in a foot race. x2 from one whose runs are not as "on par" as yours Thanks guys, I don't think I included my walk the other day into the total workouts or time, I'll have to go back and check. I did run yesterday afternoon but certainly had to slow my pace. Joined the Hill Climb Club last night, it's a short night ride where we hit five or six steep hills. Just came back from 1.5 hours of easy base riding around the track, 32 degree average temp. |

Inspiring my children was one of the reasons for contining with Tri - I love how it touches their hearts ! My 9yo insist she have an IronKids watch off Santa so she can train like Daddy. I also love the innocence and had to chuckle as '... even though he started old for a triathlete ...'

I'm sure she could have gotten just about anything she wanted at that point! My 11 year old kind of gets it but I'm not sure that he would write something that inspirational. |

Currently using a Sportline I bought at Target a few years ago but have never been happy with it. Something that would allow me to load the workout information onto BT or another site would be nice. Any information would be appreciated.

Just wanted to get people's thoughts/opinions on my possible race schedule for next summer. Having only competed in one sprint and two 10k's last summer I wanted to get some insight on if I’m planning to much or not leaving enough time, etc. May 19th Bluenose Half Marathon - Set on this race as I had planned to do it two years ago and injured myself during the training. Trying to redeem myself. Not planning on killing myself running it. Main goal is to finish. Second goal is under 1:50. June 2nd Navy Sprint - Planning on it being a B or C race just to get the feel back, 750m pool swim. June 14th Air Force Sprint - This will be my A sprint race - again a 750m pool swim, I am planning on doing the local Oly distance race that I did last year. The date is not set but Im really hoping it will be in July. Will be a B race. August 18th Parlee Beach Oly, am planning on it being a B race however I have a cousin who may travel to compete with me. If he does I’m sure there will be a lot of Family coming. It may be my A race. Sept. 9th Shubi-Dooby Tri Oly, This is my planned A race right now. October 6th Planning on a 10k or HM, I’m thinking the 10k to see how I compared to this years time. I may do another 10k race here of there if it fits into the schedule, but I wouldn't race them all out, it would be more a tempo pace, just to be involved. OK shred away. |

I recommend either the Garmin 310XT which you can get for $250 w/ the HR strap on Amazon of if your budget allows, the Garmin 910XT which you can get for $449. The Garmins are great for tracking your run and bike workouts (pace, speed, HR, cadence, etc), both are waterproof and the 910XT allows you to track your swim workouts as well.

Your schedule looks good to me and totally achievable. You have enough time from now until your first races to build a good base, so I say go for it. If you find that you are having a hard time recovering from one race to the other, you can always drop one of the races, since you have several options to choose from. My 2 cents and interested to see what the others think |
