Hey everyone!

Keeping busy here just TRYING to keep up with work and my winter maintenance training plan . . . I can only imagine what the next several months will bring with a more active plan - OMG! My official plan starts on the 28th already - where has the time gone?! Talk about ups and downs . . . some days I feel sooooo accomplished for what I've finished that day or an improvement I've made and others, I just scare the crap outta myself thinking of all there is to do and learn! Am I crazy here?

Renee

I am also staring my new plan around the 28th, give or take.....it is intimidating to try to figure out how to fit that into my life....but I am going to really plan it out and not just wing it like I did last season. I will be starting the 16 or 20 wk Oly plan. You? I also am reading a book called The Triathletes Guide to Swim Training which has a swimming program laid out for 12 weeks, very nice for someone like me who has no idea what to do once I am in the water. It requires 3 sessions a week, so hopefully it will coordinate with the Oly plan. I need to sit and focus on it all for a bit before I get started.......I will do it.....I will!

I need to look at my plan more closely I am doing things on days off and stuff really have to look at it and lay the week out ahead of time. My running is way beyond the level they want for the plan. Tonight I am supposed to run 14 minutes. That isn't even worth going out for me. So I am trying to get more swimming in I should have looked at a 3 times or a swim focused plan. Maybe I should I look at that and change it

I pay extra for the title.  Nah.  Who knows, but I think it has something to do with posts in the last 90 days or something....isn't it on that page that was linked here earlier?

Happy Bday to your son.  One is such a cute age.  Now two.....it's hard!!!  My kids are bouncing off the walls tonight.  Thankfully I am leaving for a meeting in a few!!

Beth is a star and title expert (TOTAL POST PADDER). I do no such thing. I never post except when to impart critical information, such as:

Stars are dependent both on post count AND duration of membership. To take my own count as an example: over 3200 would normally be Elite, except that you also need to have been a member for 300 days, and I'm two days short.

So Shawn, even though you may have more posts, Leslie has been a member longer.

If I keep patiently explaining stars and titles, I will get another pretty pink one, and have four like Leslie soon!!!

I have to be an expert at something

I am going to signup for an adult swimming stroke improvement class at a local Y tonight.  It started last week, so i'm out a class.  Still, I think it will be worth it.  I am seeing NO improvement in swim speed, though at least endurance has improved greatly.  Anyhow I am looking forward to 4-5 sessions with a little instruction!  Really hoping it will help with my speed!

Better get back to working!

Renee

that's great Renee!

just remember technique first, endurance second - speed will follow

I promise!

sometimes it's hard to realize that there is a method to the madness of the plan

it does sound like looking at a swim focused plan would be a good idea though

My plan today called for running just 18 minutes.....so I focused and worked on speed instead of just slogging--I increased .1 mph every quarter mile on the treadmill until I was flying!  Same for swimming today, I didn't have a ton of time, so I tried to keep my HR up.  I know Yanti wrote in here early on about having a goal for each workout to stay mentally and physically focused.  I am trying to do that, and hope to get better as the weeks go by.

Whatcha making for dinner?    We are having spinach salad.  By we, I mean ME and the rest of them will have either a soy corn dog, leftover tuna casserole or spinach raviolis.  I know I should make everyone eat when I cook, but it's too hard to battle them right now.

I think that is what I am going to have to do is really focus on each work out rather than just saying I did it. Tonight I guess I could go run my 14 minutes but I want to swim it is funny how much I want to swim. I getting to swim a bit further and am enjoying it more. I just don't like the busy pool. I think it is just because I don't feel that I am such a strong swimmer yet I don't fit in to well with the slow lane at the pool as it is so slow but I am not a continuous swimmer to the extent that the moderates swim

Can you run before you swim?  A mini-brick? A cool down swim?  I also don't like the crowded pool but today the woman sharing my lane gave me my first official swimming compliment--that I was a very consistent swimmer.  Strangely, it's the first person who has ever spoken to me, outside of just saying excuse me or whatever, since I joined the gym in the early fall.  Weird?  Yes.  It made me happy to be called consistent, since I was going pretty fast today.

So I went to swim tonight and the pool schedule is new since the new year and they missed some things so I get there to swim and the Tri club is in the pool. I am not a member of the tri club so I can't get in the pool. So I went to run as the stationary just doesn't do anything for me. I usually wear knee braces cause of my bad knees but didn't have them tonight so I started out with a warm up of 4.5 for 5 min then up to 5 m'hr for 5 min the 5.5/hr for 5 then finished with 6 for 10. This was a pretty big thing for me as I usually run 10:1 and tonight I ran straight through and felt great!!!

I am starting a 20-week HIM plan on the 28th.  I think I am just going to stick to the plan as it is laid out, as best I can.  So far I've been substituting spin classes for bike time . . . I probably should at least try to simulate the suggested workout on a stationary bike.  I also really need to start looking at the planned workouts a little in advance so I can ask questions when I don't understand them!

Trying to plan your time schedule in advance will hopefully make things a little less stressful than winging it!  Hope you get time to get it figured out!  I'm interested to see what you come up with for your swim plan . . . keep us updated!  Your book sounds like it could be pretty helpful.  Does it provide drills, etc?  I need to take time to learn some swimming drills . . . when my plan calls for them, I just keep doing the same one I know LOL!  Time to get serious I guess!

Oh Beth about my swimming how I said I hardly kicked. I think I was over kicking before. My last swim session I was noticing that I am kicking about 4 or so kicks a stroke I am not a good counter/breather/swimmer so it could be different I just think I was over kicking before and using my legs to much to try and propel myself.

I just copied from a post in another thread as to why I don't join the Tri Club YET

Lol I knew this would get some questions. I am not part of the Tri club. So during their sessions the pool is closed. That is all. I was going to join but their swims in the morning I couldn't make it to. I will look into it later I want to get a year in and get my swimming up through lessons and stroke improvement classes.

actually I've been thinking about this and the best way to respond - dang, I wish I could actually see you swim, I could give much better advice

the kick is a very critical part of the whole stroke - swimming is all about balance and being streamlined - sorry for the delay - sometimes it takes me a bit to formulate the response

I owe responese to a few posts

  • fins and paddles
  • head position
  • the kick

my life is finally settling down (at least for a couple of weeks) - I will post some info on each of these topics in the next few days

I signed up for the Kansas HIM - June 15, 2008 - OMG!  I wish it would have timed out to where it was a little later in the year, but it didn't . . .  I definately have my work cut out for me!  I took a bit of a leap of faith - I'm hoping with some hard work to really build up my base in all 3 sports over these next 5 months.  My goal for this first one is to FINISH and to hopefully enjoy it!  With that said, OF COURSE I don't wanna be last   And as I find myself making any improvements whatsoever in training, I naturally get more competative with myself . . . BUT, I certainly don't consider myself an athelete now . . . hopefully someday!

I'm also hoping to do an Olympic distance in the beginning of April in preparation for the HIM . . . figured it may be good to have done a tri before then!  Unfortunately, around here they just don't have many that early in the year for me to gain practice.  I will have to keep my eyes open . . .  The Oly I am looking at is in TX and I'm in NE!  I really wish I could find something closer around that time . . .

Bummer about the pool . . . ever think of joining the tri club? I wish my gym had one . . . Anyhow, GREAT JOB with the run tonight! Gotta love it when the workout feels "ON"!!

I just copied from a post in another thread as to why I don't join the Tri Club YET Lol I knew this would get some questions. I am not part of the Tri club. So during their sessions the pool is closed. That is all. I was going to join but their swims in the morning I couldn't make it to. I will look into it later I want to get a year in and get my swimming up through lessons and stroke improvement classes.

LOL
