Man, I'm stoked! Just got my first Tri bike(P2) and carbon wheels! Can i just say WOW in reference to my new bike. My average speed has increased significantly but the most amazing thing is how fresh my legs feel after 50 miles! i never bought into the "hype" of a tri bike, but man am i a believer now! Registered for Augusta 2 days ago and man am I PUMPED! A buddy told me it is a very fast race. Did a 70.3 in Fla a year and a half ago and my time was awful(6:45). By the time the race came around, I was training only 1-2 days/week and man did it show. Needless to say, this will be a different race. Kinda got something to prove to myself, ya know! Should help that I'm nearly 35lbs lighter. Couldn't get a room at Marriott but got reservations at the Double Tree. Anyone have any comments on that hotel and Augusta in general? My mom is coming up to Atl to watch our kids for the weekend so my wife and I have the weekend to enjoy and have never been to Augusta. Sorry so long!

On another note, how "rolling" is the course? Are there any significant climbs? I live in Atlanta but do not ride the roads much as we had a tragic accident last year that really changed my outlook on training and road riding. Gonna ramp up the hill repeats in an effort to get accustomed to them again.

My wife and I did this race 3 years ago and absolutely loved it. Swimming is both of our weakest leg so a down river wetsuit legal swim is awesome. We live in a hilly area of Florida and train regularly on the hills. The hills on this course are hills...not mountains. They are not that daunting. I feel it is a pretty fast course. It was an absolute monsoon when we raced it 3 years ago which made for some hairy downhill cornering on wet roads, but I was still was faster than my goal time, IIRC. The run is pancake flat. Get some good hill work in on the bike and you'll be fine.

Does this race usually sell out? I was thinking out about adding this one to my schedule if I am not to burned out from training over the summer.

Son of a B!tch! Just went to sign up and it's sold out. Isn't this pretty early for this race? That's what I get for procrastinating

Sorry to hear that. I just signed up yesterday so I likely took one of the few remaining spots. And I almost waited until later this week - glad I didn't.

It closed, then opened back up, then closed again.

Sorry you missed signing up, but you did wait until the last minute.

If you want to race another good race, comparable in experience (although not size) to Augusta, try B2B Half. That is one of the best HIMs I've raced. You won't regret that. It also is later in the year...Late October.

Good Luck!

Yeah I understand it's only my fault that I didn't get in. Honestly wasn't expecting it to sell out until the end of the month. I'd like to do B2B but it'll have to be next year as I'm doing IMFL this year.

This will be my very first 70.3. I have been training pretty consistant. My biggest fear is just trying to finish the race.

they key to finishing is just to keep moving forward and only thinking about what you need to do in the next minute.

In the south that's almost an impossible question to answer. It could be mid 60's and pleasant to mid 90's with outrageous humidity and everything in between. The average is probably mid 80s with moderate humidity, so that's what I would plan for and just keep an eye on the long range forecast. They usually do a good job on the temps/winds a few days out.
