Note to all Silverman Athletes:

I would recommend for you all to make sure that you at least bring a wetsuit that you are familiar with in case the water is cool enough to require one. It has been seen to be really chilly on one end, and comfortable enough for some to swim without it. Just plan, and bring one.

I would hate for you to not finish the swim because you used a wetsuit that you never used before, and it chocked or for what ever reason, you stopped your swim, and had to be hauled in. The bike and run course is way to beautiful for you to cut your day short from something that could of been prevented.

Train safe, and good luck. Have a wonderful race!!

Your Silverman Swim Course Director!

MrSolis - 2009-08-20 10:04 AM What about the water temp?   Is a wet suit a must or just nice to have.  I think I can handle 69-70 degrees and up and I feel better with out a wetsuit

I know last year the weather was bad,  what about historically?  what are the typical temps, wind, etc

Water has been seen from 54'F up to 70'F over the last 4 years.
Seen it flat as a pancake where I could see myself as if I was looking into a mirror all the way up to a few chops with winds. The conditions can range to anything, as most triathlon can around the country. The key is to come ready for what ever God gives us, and have the most fun as we can. This is really why we do this sport. To enjoy the new friends you make, and everything in between.

Mostly, you don't want to miss the awesome swag bag you get from this race. Wohooo!! I would signup just for that!

devouahy - 2009-01-08 7:43 AM I do not want to repeat last years swim course! Please pray for good karma this year, and it will be flat and smooth on the water. Smile
You know Hans... I finally got nice weather at an IM at Vineman this year. Maybe I can get a streak going?

Your on!!

It is either downhill or uphill.  Not a damn flat spot to think of..  Hope that helps with the tt bike...  LOL.  Great race,

Hey Chile..  back at it strong.  If I dont drown in the swim, should finish the bike in 7-8 hours.  Hopefully crawl across the line in 6 for a total of around 15...  That just sounds nuts...  later all

73 days...

If my memory suits me, the sisters are about 95 miles or so into the ride. Be careful going down the last sister as there is a 90 degree left turn at the bottom. It was raining last year and a rider went down in front of me.

Hi there, I'm going to Vegas tomorrow to celebrate our anniversary and I'm bringing the bike So I was thinking about riding from the harbor out to the full turnaround and then back via Henderson, maybe 110m or so, on Wednesday. My question is: does anyone know if it is OK to bike back over the 93? I can't tell if there's a bike path between the truckstop (...that's what it looks like in Google Maps, can't remember what this is from LY) and Boulder city. And any suggestions on where to fuel up on drinks? Anyone want to join? Should be +100, fun! Thanks!

There is no where to fuel up out there. If you are going to try riding to the turn around... especially with how hot it is, you best have a support crew or pre-drive out on the course and place some drinks that you can pick up at the bathroom area about 37 miles out.

Be careful if you do it. Don't want to hear about any heat injuries.

Oh great! Didn't know about the bathrooms, is there water? I can carry 6 bottles on the bike, was hoping I would make it to the gas station 95 miles in at Athens and E lake mead Pkwy, but stashing some bottles is a better idea. THANKS!

Ken,
The supported rides are a blast as you are training with other people out there. The rides are designed for both the half and full. Just ride what ever distance you want to do that day, aid support stations will be placed out along the course. If you just want to ride 50 miles, turn around at the 25 mile marker. The first aid last year was aound 18 miles and the second at 35 miles, etc.. all is flexible, and the goal is about having fun!! Smile

Wow, I was only able to squeeze out 70 miles in the 105deg heat... (air quality was a bit poor too due to the smog from the fires in LA). The bike path actually goes almost all the way back to Boulder, they are working on the last bit. It stops at the veterans home, from there on I took the streets back to the Park entrance. Had a blast though, the views are as fantastic as I remember them from LY! Just hope the temp drops a bit before the race, or I'm going to be in trouble!

FYI, come out and pass on the word. At the ITU World last week in Australia, the Silverman Triathlon was awarded the 2011 World Championships. This will be the first time in history that the US has ever hosted the ITU World Championship for the Long Distance Triathlon.

Stay posted on additional detail over the next year or so. We will have the normal Silverman, and a seperate ITU race.

Cheers!
