There are an infinte number of examples of humans improving at things via pure repetition and without breaking down muscle and recovering. But keep in mind that example was purely in the context of "burden of proof" which I believe should be upon those adding variables. In my opinion, triathletes train to excel at a bike followed immediately by a run. The run is done in a fatigued condition due to the bike effort. If you claim that in order to optimally train for that act you should separate it into two parts and do them separately, IMO, that is an added variable because it differs from the act for which you're training . I'm not saying it's right or wrong. I honestly don't really care because I don't care if I'm optimally training (I'm looking for fun and happiness over optimal training). And I certainly don't care how anybody else trains.

Your logic assumes there is something different about running on tired legs versus running.  That's an added variable I don't accept.

Of course, I really don't care how you train.

then I'm not sure what the point was).

There was no point. My career of discussing anything training related on BT has just ended. Carry on.

Touchy.  I hope the smiley indicated it was a joke.  But if you're going to challenge others, even if it's just by stating a differing opinion or viewpoint, expect to be challenged back.  Sometimes usefully.  Sometimes less so.  It is just a forum.

I just wanted to add one more reason to do BRICKS:

Testing Nutrition.  You might think you are  fine after your bike, but once you get it sloshing around in your belly on the run you'll know real quick.

Carry on.

Important for HIM and IM, not necessary for Oly. and below.  But you STILL cannot simulate or train yourself for what race day will be like.  You will not be going race pace for the entire ride and run (nor should you ever train that way to begin with - just race if you are going to do that).  And even if you "pretend" to go a faster sustained effort, it will never be the same as a race.
