Subject: RE: Trixe and WS 100At mile 14, on a flat section of the course I bit it, hard. Tore up my knees and elbow, one knee hurt pretty bad, causing me to just be able to run flattish type sections....if you know the course, there are very few flat sections. In the first 29 miles I never ran more than 5 minutes at a stretch, but not many other people did either, way too much climbing and way too steep on the decline. I'm thinking the knee and my altered running pace set me up for my downfall...
After 30 miles it turns into very very runable sections. Forced myself to join up with a few folks to make up sometime. I was right up against the cut off times. was within 30 minutes at one station. Two stations later had made up another hour and a half, by the time I made it to Devil's Thumb a had a 2.5 hour cushion. Thought I was good as you can make up good time in the dark.
Made it to Devil's Thumb, climbing out of the canyon (1800 feet in 1.5 miles) but too much strain on my achilles, not completly torn, just a partial tear. Left the Devil's Thumb station thinking I could walk to Michigan Bluff to meet the crew. Going back down the river I took an hour to go a half mile. Medical team was combing and told me I was done. Couldn't put enough weight on the foot to do anything. Michigan Bluff was down to the river and back out...would never had made it.
So....Medical team cut off the wristband...DNF. Some very very nice looking man carried me up the half mile STRAIGHT UP THE FREAKING MTN back to the aid station. CARRIED ME. so cool.
Funny thing is I talked myself out of a DNF two stations prior, weight was up 6 pounds, they pull "small women" at 3%....that's 5% for me. So I lasted longer than they wanted me to, so there. Hmpf.
Anywho, I'm done, and feel like I was hit by a train. Feel just as bad as I did after finishing the first 100 miler. But I'm ok with it. Nothing I could do, they weren't going to let me finish.
Thanks for watching me and thanks for the support. I'm sorry I didn't bring home a belt buckle for you guys. |
