Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Oh man!! I was so looking forward to a game 7 but you are absolutely correct. Now that you have tix - it aint happening. At least I know who to blame now ;-) It's the same relationship with the washing of cars and rain... (BTW, I see you live in NH - do you live anywhere near Henniker?) |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm torn. I've been to one playoff game in my life, and it was actually a game 7 (Bruins vs Canadiens, 2011) but I'm much more of a Sox fan. Much more. I grew up 8 miles north of the city. 2001-2005 I went to college a few blocks from Fenway and one of the admins at the school had a summer job working for the Sox so I had standing tickets every summer. 2004 and 2007 I couldn't watch game 4 in public. I had to be home. 2004 I watched probably 90% of the game standing up, pacing in my house. Once they won all I wanted to do was call my 83 year old grand mother and talk to her to make sure she stayed up to watch it. 2007 my wife went to bed early and I stayed up to watch game 4 and just remember sitting on my couch alone after they won, smiling. Since my son was born 2 years ago baseball has definitely taken more of a back seat, but the playoffs really bring out the horribly addicted, pessimistic Sox fan in me. Half of me hopes they close it out tomorrow because if I have to be in the stadium and god forbid they lose, it's going to be one hell of a ride home. Also, even though it's face value, it's still a couple hundred bucks haha. (I live in Hampstead, not really close to Henniker.) |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I understand that Boston has not clinched a series at home since....1915 I think? So, clearly, the Cardinals are taking two. ![]() Having said that, I get to teach tonight (second job) - so will miss most, if not all, and then tomorrow night is Halloween, and someone has to take the kids around. I will be forced to listening to ESPN radio... Oh well. It could be worse. I could be a Cubs fan. (Seriously - their ownership has already written off 2014) |

When I was in college in1986 - about half of the folks were from NYC area and half from BOS/NE watching the game in the student center. Game Six... Buckner... I was really pulling for the Sox. Unreal. And, of course in 2011 Game 6 (the greatest WS game ever IMHO) the Rangers were "one strike away". Wife and kids were asleep when I began jumping up and down uncontrollably... and silently. Again... unreal. I love baseball. I hope this goes 7 but if it doesn't I'll send the Sox a tip of my cap. |

We parked downtown and walked across the 6th street bridge to get there. Yeah: 43 years later, it seems like yesterday.... |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Looks like I don't have to worry about those game 7 tickets. Cards played an awesome series, that was the two best teams in the MLB going at each other for 5 games, but this one really got away. Awesome way to end it for us New Englanders. Great season from an absolutely unexpected source. Still kind of in shock of it all. |

I'm just glad it's coming back to Boston. Lester vs Wainwright tonight, should be an awesome matchup again. If Boston takes it tonight I think they take the series. Conversly, if the Cards win tonight, I think it goes to game 7.... which is on Halloween. Yeah, I think the Cards have to win tonight. I just don't see them winning 2 in Fenway to end the series. BUT....if the win tonight you have to deal with Wacha in game 6. He's damn near unhittable right now. well the sox made short work of Wacha - he was out what bottom of the 4th? so I think you need to eat those words :p Sox did what they do - used the obstruction call as motivation and then just dominated - proving they are the world champions BOSTON STRONG |

Talking about youth and long haul, is there a pitcher on the Cards that doesn't throw GAS? Wachha was throwing 95+ cheese and a 74 MPH uncle charlie. Every reliever was throwing serious heat. Sox have Napoli, Drew, Salty and Ellsbury on the market. Lester has an option year left but after this they have to wrap him up for, ugh, close to Greinke money. Ellsbury will look for Crawford money, so he's gone. Napoli and Salty I hope they bring back. I never expected this team to win 80 games, nevermind win the division and WS. This was supposed to be their transition year after dumping all that cash last year. Amazing what they did. I don't think anyone is working today, it's all Sox all day. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Congrats to the Sox. They were the better team in this series. Well done. The Cards will be back though... they have a a lot of great young pitchers - they just need to fix the bottom third of their lineup. The Cards series could be summed up with this: two men on, no outs and up next is Freese, Kosma and Jay (and pitcher if NL game). End of inning. Oh, and pitching to Ortiz? - why wait until game 6 to decide not to pitch to him? |

Oh, and pitching to Ortiz? - why wait until game 6 to decide not to pitch to him? I guess their trigger point to intentionally walk is hitting over 700. I wonder what his OBP was, as he got another 3 walks last night. He hasn't seen the ball like this in a few years (and I was worried that he was done when he stopped allegedly using the juice during the end of the Manny days a few years back). He had that typical power hitter drop off a cliff - seems like once they lose their timing/seeing the ball, they fall off quickly. Buuuuut, he definitely wasn't THAT this post season - thankfully! |

Oh, and pitching to Ortiz? - why wait until game 6 to decide not to pitch to him? Matheney constantly pitching to Ortiz was a huge mistake, obviously. The guy was out of this world over the course of multiple games. Make Gomes or Napoli or someone beat you. Another overlooked thing, game 5, 7th inning they walk Stephen Drew with 1 on and 1 out. He was hitting nothing and they let him get away. You've got Ross and the pitcher next, that should be an easy inning. Instead Ross doubled, later Ellsbury singled, it's 3-1 and that was the end of it. Then last night I know Lackey was throwing strikes, but STL was taking zero pitches. Some of those innings were what, 9 pitches? You're right though, anything after Molina seemed to be doomed. Straight up rally killers. |

Very late night celebrating what I never, ever would have thought possible just 11-12 years ago - a 3rd WS win for the sox in the past decade. Great teams on both sides. Cards are stacked for the long haul. How do they find so many young guys who throw gas like that? My lord, do I need a nap or something. Today is going to be a struggle, but in a good way ![]() I fell 'ya my brotha. I'm two Starbucks dark roasts in and I'm still fighting off the sleepy eyes. I'll take it though! |
