I usually cannot make changes, so I am not sure if the numbers are really there. When you get a chance can you check it out? Thanks. Yep, your numbers are really there! Groovy. I'll keep an eye on them, though - since I know you usually can't. Let me know if something looks wrong to you. |

Teenage drama and angst to no end...Their need for parents is definitely different from when they were babies/toddlres but it's still there. I find it harder now because there are times I have to really discern if this is where I need to intervene or let them learn a hard lesson...abud7373 - 2008-02-04 3:14 PM notarunnr - 2008-02-04 10:49 AM I have a 2 1/2 yo and a 4yo. I can only imagine what it will be like when they are teens!! Enders, I added my miles on the spreadsheet from the team captains thread. I usually cannot make changes, so I am not sure if the numbers are really there. When you get a chance can you check it out? Thanks. It's Monday and I am back...in case anyone was looking for me. I have to do another type of running on the weekend as I have three children to run around (check out my log to see the updates of the weekend), and so I am rarely online on the weekend. I ran today according to my plan, 2.5 miles. I am rehabbing from an injury so my mileage is low and only every other day as I try to build my base again.
I have a 14, 12, & 7 yo....it becomes a different kind of hard...you don't have to carry them, they can move fast when "motivated" too, and their temper tantrums are rare, but it becomes a challenge in how to get one to this side of town, when the other one has to be on the other side of town at the same time. And you are no longer a stay at home mom cuz you are always in the car! Oh, c'mon, Judi - you have to make that choice even with the younger ones. I have a 3yo and an almost 6yo (both girls) and I still sometimes have to decide between intervening/letting them learn. I guess your choice is often more severe, though. I will tell you - I am terrified of the teen years. You're not doing anything to help out with that! |

Regular 85 Eastside Seattle WA | Subject: RE: Gingerbread Joggers party & commiseration thread I ran 3 miles today. Pretty fast pace for me. We are at 10% and I am 10% done. Wowee lookee that. I am also the mom of 3 kiddos. 8, 6, and 4. Two play basketball twice a week ( 2 different teams) and the preschooler is not in preschool so we have a lot of time together. She gets to go with me on my runs if the weather is nice and sometimes I'll have her play at the kids spot at the gym. I do have to bike without her though so I am really trying to get my biking mileage in. I am scheduled for a bike race in the San Juan Islands the end April so I am trying to ramp up for that. I try to get 4 workouts a week but am also just coming back into training so 2-3 is not uncommon. I am really happy with my progress so far though. thanks for the support. |

LOL - I have a nine-month old and I'm already starting to let her make "mistakes" to learn (although I drew the line at letting her learn that the radiator pipe she is desperate to grab is boiling hot!) I'm just looking forward to the day when she understands what I'm saying -- am in complete denial about the teenage years! Still croaking away at my end so no running yet to report. I'll update my goal from my plan once I kick this virus. |

Chasing after your kids? Voting in primaries? (Yeah, yeah - I know - no politics...just trying to figure out why noone is around.) I've got a 6-miler on for tomorrow - and I'm really torn. It's supposed to be a tempo run, which I do much better on a treadmill (because I have NO sense of pace)...but it's also supposed to be amazingly gorgeous outside tomorrow. So - do I do the tempo run on the 'mill or just run a pleasant 6 miles outside? (OK, so as my teammates, you probably really don't care, so long as I get the miles in - but still - any advice is good.) Have a nice nite, folks! |

It is supposed to be nice here tomorrow also, so I am excited to get out and run, but I can only do the 2.5 mile run right now. Now here's a question in which you will understand why I am "notarunnr" what's a tempo run? |

A tempo run is where you are supposed to hold some of the miles at a certain pace...so my plan tomorrow calls for 6 miles, with the middle 4 miles to be run at 10min/mile. My normal longer run speed is somewhere between 10-11min/mile...so this is kind of like speedwork. Anyway - I hope Judi is right and it is storming...then I won't have to decide. (If it were my long run, I'd go ahead and run in the rain, but since the treadmill would work better for this anyway...) |

Veteran 228 Greenbelt, MD | Subject: RE: Gingerbread Joggers party & commiseration thread Hey guys. Good news. My crushed toe (the one that got crushed by the 12 pound mirror) made it through today's 2.5 mile run/walk. And the only time it really hurt was when I had to grab my toes to stretch my hamstring! So I don't have to drop out, which makes me so happy. It was a great run (now granted it was slower than my normal super slow run just to be easy on my toes). It was 60 degrees out, overcast, and just great. I ran 30 minutes total with intervals of 1:10 run and :50 walk. That was up from the 1 and 1 from last week. It kept my heart rate down in the 2-3 zones so that was good. I'm definitely going to have to work a bit to catch up. Especially since I need to bag on my workout on Thursday thanks to a triathlon happy hour. But I built in a little cushion so I should be okay. |

Champion 6107 Out running or enjoying a fine glass of red... | Subject: RE: Gingerbread Joggers party & commiseration thread After all the drama yesterday (OK, well it wasn't really drama - just asking for a little advice re: 'mill vs. outside)...I ended up doing my 6 on the treadmill. When I got done at work, it was windy and a wicked storm appeared to be brewing. Sometime while I was in the gym, it rained - but I missed it. Which is good. So, 6 more miles in for me, and another 2 miles on the plan for tomorrow. Sorry to make the cold-weather-folks feel jealous, but man, it was pretty this morning. 78 degrees and sunny. |

Regular 85 Eastside Seattle WA | Subject: RE: Gingerbread Joggers party & commiseration thread I ran my 3 miles today. I felt really good about it. Yeah me up at 6:30 am! You know I've got to feel some type of responsibility for keeping my end of this competition up if I get up in the morning to work out. Next week the little one will be back in preschool on Tuesdays and Thursdays so that is my workout time. Until then I will have to just suffer I did a little warm up and then ran 2 miles straight and then only walked 3 minutes of the last mile. I was pretty happy with the time 34:46 for 3 miles. My fastest mile is 9:50 ( I just about died on that one) my pace isn't too bad for me. I would love to do a 5K under 30 minutes. I have that as a goal but when to achieve that I have no idea how long it takes to increase a pace. Any ideas? Kimberly |

Champion 23360 Taser-World | Subject: RE: Gingerbread Joggers party & commiseration thread Midweek Challenge Update!Greetings February Challenge Participants!Have you been wondering what's happening on all the teams? Here's a quick update! Team Swimming Rocks - Co-Captains: kns57, Milaminute and Devouahy The three team captains are currently fighting over possession of their beloved Little Pink Whip. The winner might end up being Devouahy, as he can hold his breath for 6 min 18 seconds – without turning blue! Unfortunately, Captain Kendra has bronchitis and needs to withdraw from the challenge – however she is now the Official Team Cheerleader! (Can you hear her in the background? She’s yelling, “Go team! Swim like rocks!” – Er, or something like that.) Team We  T.I.T.S. - Co-Captains: tnickerson and Tupuppy Well, I’ll give you one guess as to what this team is discussing. Yep, it’s "All T.I.T.S. – All the time." We’ve got T.I.T.S. that are pink and red, and even some with GLITTER. And some people, well, they have more T.I.T.S. than others. And… well, enough of that. I’m sure you get the idea. Pitter Patter of Fast Feet... aka PFFT - Captain: 1for1 Naked runs! Yep, that’s the topic on this team. After Waterdog66 told the team about his naked run, the team was quick to contemplate how they could do this too! Stop by to find out which members of this team do naked runs, which members live near nudist colonies, and which members really want to do naked runs but feel it’s just a tad too cold outside. LEMmings- the reRUN. Once again over the cliff. - Captain: RunnerX Next stop - Team LEMons. Er, I meant "Lemmings." (I don’t think they appreciate my loving nickname for them.) Many members of this team seem to be plagued by the plague. Others are dealing with “the drippy sinus thing.” Despite this, they’re still racking up some impressive mileage. And they finally chose their team name - if only to avoid having me select it for them! Gingerbread Joggers - Captain: Enders_Shadow Puberty, temper tantrums and the “teenage years.” This group is discussing the hormonal swings that make for parents’ nightmares. Team Captain Kristen said “Groovy.” (When was the last time you heard that word?) Pam (crea0029) will be doing an indoor tri this weekend – Good luck, Pam! Running With Scissors - Captain: Artemis With over 400 posts already, this team looks to be a clear winner in this month’s Post Count Challenge. (What? You didn’t know there’s a Posting Challenge? Well, now you do. Get posting! LOL) Julie (Girl Passing On Left) has been displaying her creativity with some great pictures! She’s also been named the team’s Official Highlights Poster! Steve (reno8) has learned how to put a GLITTERY team table on his training log. And Lynne’s (Scotinseattle) snake ate a mouse, while her bird bit her – um, please refer to the Team T.I.T.S. discussion! Hope you enjoyed this midweek challenge update! If you weren’t mentioned in the update – well, you must not have been posting enough! Try harder for next week! And in the meantime: SWIM! BIKE! RUN! Dee |
