Kind of helps me know where I need to make sure I get some experience prior to race day. Anyone else wanna share? The seminar I'm going to attend is in May and I hear the location is a pretty calm beach, so it's a good place for a first OWS experience. I think OWS clinics/seminars are great. I did one last year and I needed it something awful. I'm much more calm in an OWS but I'm still a mess during the actual tris. |

Expert 1014 Virginia | Subject: RE: Team Persistent Pumpkins Good advice on OWS. I'm processing it all. I've found some races with shorter OWS - like 300-400 m that I think would be good for a first experience. |

Completed a 5k and broke 9min/mile (which is quick for this heavy guy!)...without thinking about it...those longer runs I have been doing recently must really have helped........anyway, managed to squeeze the run in......Go Pumpkins! .........strange that when you switch you brain off from analyzing everything your doing and just go out and run you seem to do better sometimes.....I can hardly remember anything about running except looking down at my watch when I came within 200yds from the finish. .......does anybody else get this??? |

Extreme Veteran 364 | Subject: RE: Team Persistent Pumpkins Greetings all, This is the second BT Challenge I've taken part in and I'm excited to to a multi-sport one this month. I'm training for Singapore 70.3. Yes, that's right, I'm stationed in South Korea so the closest race to me (besides China but I'm not ready for a full IM) is Singapore in early September. 2008 is my third year in triathlons. I started out doing sprints only and last year I did my first olympic distance race. I decided when I started this little hobby that I was going to increase the distance one notch each year. Hence, the 70.3 this year and I'll see where I get stationed next to do a full ironman somewhere in the world next year. My training goals are as follows: Swim: 25,000 yards Bike: 400 miles Run: 60 miles P.S. Just in case you've had trouble finding my profile it's because there was an extra "a" added to the end of my nickname. It's 'mmakaryk' as you can see to the left <--- Edited by mmakaryk 2008-04-02 6:25 AM |

Extreme Veteran 364 | Subject: RE: Team Persistent Pumpkins btw... Since I'm 13 hours ahead of Eastern time I'm at the end of April 2 and so far I'm 19 miles on the bike, 3.25 miles running, and 2,400 yards swimming towards my goal. It's going to be an early morning wakeup to get another hour run and 30 minute bike in tomorrow morning at the gym. Cheers! |

Expert 1022 | Subject: RE: Team Persistent Pumpkins CHR15 TREE - 2008-04-02 1:09 AM Got a short commute into the office this morning on Siena (my bike - they must have names). managed to pick up a piece of glass in the rear tyre in the last 100yds, so that is my lunch break taken, fixing the flat. Hope to get another 15 or so in this evening on the way home.
Have a great day all!!! I've got to name my bike. It keeps talking to me. Generally its saying things like "Hey, I've already done a IronMan... who is this poser who keeps riding on me?" and "15MPH???? What? This slacker can't go faster than that? He should try a Wal-Mart bike" At least I could reply, if I knew its name. |

I'm actually not knocking them. We got my daughter a Target bike for her first 2 sprints last year, and she podiumed both times. BUT...we got her a Cannondale for her 3rd sprint, once we knew that she was going to be doing this on a regular basis, and she dropped 7 minutes on her bike on the same course as an earlier sprint. A Target bike still isn't a bad thing for starting out with. As an old timer, who just retired his 30 year old bike two months ago, I can tell you that a current Target/Wal-Mart bike is almost as good as top of the line bikes from a decade or two ago. |

Veteran 232 Rio Rancho, New Mexico | Subject: RE: Team Persistent Pumpkins I was just kidding about the Walmart bikes and to be honest it is nice to hear that there is a good chance I won't be the only one out there on a heavy old Wally World/Target bike. I have never entered or watched a tri and to hear this a bit of relief... .......to be honest I just wanna finish my first race and get rid of the nerves etc so I am not too worried about my time. But then again looking like the driver of a Hummer at an Indy car race ain't cool either......but who cares.......I am personally built more like a Hummer than an Indy car anyway.....so it might be appropriate. LOL! Maybe I can treat myself to a new bike over the summer and gain those 7+ mins in my races in later in the year, but at the moment it will have to remain a pipe dream. |
