Subject: RE: The "ideal" physique for a triathlete kproudfoot - 2008-04-18 3:55 PM Man I opend a can of worms saying that Macca is not ripped. What can? Now it's just pictures of hot ladies - I don't see any of the men complaining I am just jealous because they are all more ripped than I. But if I got paid to train and didn't do anything else, I could probably look like that too. |

Thats a mid-section that 99.9% of women would die for! Its better than Jessie's or any of the others posted above!! I dunno - I'd take the abs of any of those girls. It's much harder for women to get a 6-pack - some of that is probably genetic. Seems as though "ripped abs" on women come in more varieties than do men (most men get the generic 6-pack). I'd be happy with any of the above options Not to downplay Trixie's abs by any means, I mean, they're ridiculously awesome! Just saying that a lot of women can't achieve that exact look. I am a dude and I am sure I would take the abs of any of those women in place of my own.... |

Granted, those are pro's, but there are lots of female triathletes that look like that and still manage to work and have families. I am most definitely not one of them! Guess I'm just saying that you don't have to be a pro to look like that. |

I was actually going to say something to the effect of abs like that ARE humanly possible for non-pro athletes; you just have to work at it! But I didn't want to get called out by people saying "They're pros, there's no way we can ever look like that". I used to dance, and I've seen some RIPPED abs just on kids at my college (not all dancers are anorexic ballerinas - a lot of the modern dance girls were ripped). Heck, I used to have some pretty nice abs back then too, so if I REALLY worked at it, I could get abs like that. |

Yeah, I don't eat a ton of crap and don't really go out to eat or get fast food often (french fries are my weakness), but when I get really busy, I get lazy and don't eat as many veggies as I should...but bathing suit season is soon, so more motivation to get back into shape! |

And as a single girl, I would say that that guy is what I would like my future husband to resemble Dang, that's tasty, nice and lean, but nice, defined muscle mass. Yum...and to think I actually dated a guy (also a former triathlete) who looked like that...sigh... |

The good thing is that people have different perceptions of what a freaky body might look like; some might consider freaky someone thin and fit while for others might consider Stallone look-alikes in that category. In the end, no everyone is as shallow to be concern about how others perceive them and many can be perfectly happy with their body regardless of shape. Agreed. But I am just trying to show you guys that good triathletes have no muscle. The OP was about which body type is ideal for a triathlete. Well you've got a pic of a pro triathlete and a pro track sprinter. See the difference? Freaking skinny for low power long distance, or muscle mass for short distance high power. Even a sprint tri is a distance/endurance race, so those guys wanna be toothpicks, too. Geez, I didn't say that any particular body type was bad. I also never called anyone freaky. I just said that elite triathletes want to be on the lower muscle mass end of the spectrum. Yes I did say they have no muscle, maybe I should have said, relatively little muscle mass instead. |
