Hi All,

I'm in - if I can figure out how to post!  This morning I weighed in at 237.  My goal weight is 220 at the end of this challenge.  I've mainly lived a sedentary lifestyle over the past several years while finishing grad school.  My situation now is that I have my Ph.D. in hand, but couldn't run a mile if a bear were chasing me!

Last spring I hit my all time high of 256 pounds.  In May I started jogging 3 mornings a week, but that only lasted 3 weeks because of knee pain.  My current plan is to bike for exercise and endurance while dieting to get my weight under 200 pounds.  Only when I'm under 200 will I try running again.  I think my knees and shins will thank me.

 John

I'm a penguin here too!  Embarassed  I'm only running three times a week as of now, but looking to add biking twice a week next week (cause I'll be up to 20 min runs by then).

Hi John (and everyone else)

You may want to look at starting swimming now as well as the biking. I've found that the months I swim more (which for me is 3 X week) I lose weight more easily than when I don't swim as much.  I also have to do something most days of the week or I don't lose anything.

Good luck  and welcome to BT and the challenge

Cathy

Excellent idea!

I'm at 182 now.  My goal is to lose 15lbs by Christmas, and then actually stay there through the holidays!

So my goal will be 167.

Starting weight was 166.  Weighing in at 165.5 today.  On the right trend, but not near fast enough to reach my goal by Christmas.

I'm late, but I'm in. I just finished my first tri, and I need something to keep me motivated until Christmas as well as my brother's wedding in January. Since I'm coming in late, I'll base mine on 12 weeks. My goal is 1 lb per week. My starting weight today is 142, which is actually a few lbs high for me. I think I'm retaining a little water today. I started at 156 in January 2008, so I'm already down 14 lbs in about 8 months. My goal is going to be 130. Go team!

I would love to join the Merry Christmas to Yourself Challenge.  However, I am totally new to this site.  It's really cool so far and I have seen people talk about challenges, but what exactly does one have to do to join a challenge?  And are we just weighing in every week?  How does it work exactly?  I have 40 pounds to lose total.  After a recent battle with cancer you'd think I'd be pretty thin.  However, complications limited my exercise tremendously and I actually ended up GAINING weight.  Crazy huh?  But I can't wait to get back in shape.

Well I did not start this challenge, but generally all you have to do is what you have already done... say you want to join.  Some are more time sensitive (i.e. forming of teams etc.) But in this one you simply state what your current weight is, and what your goal is for the Monday before Christmas.  We weigh in on Monday's.  I hope you are feeling better!

Starting weight:  9/22/08   173 lbs.

Goal weight: 158 lbs.

I've been swamped and not able to post until today.  I just want to be under 160 by Christmas.  Part of my problem is that I love to cook - at least when I have time! I'll have to make an effort to healthier holiday dishes.

Starting weight was 221, today was 219.

I have been lower all week but last night had a late dessert with friends and I think it showed on the scale.

I hope it is not too late to join this challenge.

I posted on the newbie forum that I just gave birth to a 9th baby (I know, I am probably insane) six weeks ago and I have 40lbs to lose. I lost all the baby weight, the 30lbs is the weight that has crept on during the last 3 years as I have been pregnant almost constantly. I finished my pregnancy at an all time high of 186lbs (YIKES). I am currently at 162lbs, and my goal is 120lbs.

My goal therefore is to lose 20lbs by Christmas - very aggressive I know, but I am so motivated!

Well I'm back from vacation and had a great time. Unfortuantely my weight loss plans fell by the way-side. My last post saw me at 291 with an expectation of being at 290 on Monday (last week). Today I weigh-in at 294 so I am up by 3lbs. I am not too disappointed at this as I guess I always new that dropping weight on vacation was going to be tough. I'm actually pretty happy that the gain wasn't more.

I have a positive expectation that I will drop more than my goal 2lb this week to get me somewhere near back on track.

Summary:

Last week: 291lbs
This week: 294lbs

Difference: +3lbs

Woo-hoo! Officially hit 40 pounds dropped from my June starting weight of 265.  Seeing that on the scale at the doctor's office in June was the wake-up call that got me off the couch.  That, and being told I was on the verge of requiring blood pressure meds... Now a bit lighter on my feet, and the BP is great.

Still got a ways to go, but pretty happy with my progress.

I cut out all sugary carb drinks during, before, and after exercise, apparently these contain more sugar than I thought. Stict diet again this week, however I need to stop doing strength training because of race this weekend, it has helped allot.
