I'm doing pretty well for the week.  I still haven't made it to the pool but I will tonight.  Got a 4.6 mile run done this morning.  It was supposed to be a tempo run but my hamstring was a bit tight.  So, I ended up doing a nice steady run up until the last mile.  I threw in a little interval work for the last mile to spice it up.  I was on the treadmill.  I hate the treadmill.

Here is the link for the spreadsheet.  I didn't see it anywhere else so I thought I'd post it.

Tight hamstring? Isn't that cause for a glass of wine? Or was that just with all your other peeps in the other challenge?

Very funny Walt! I actually have back WAY off on the wine consumption.  Way too many calories and way to expensive to keep that up!

When is your house closing date?  Soon isn't it?

Oh yeah - in 8 days. My schedule is booked to the minute for about the next 4 weeks. Not sure how to record "refinishing floors" and "moving" in my training log.

I think "home improvement" is a sport in the list.  And doesn't lifting boxes count as strength training?

Good swim in yesterday.   Hockey last night, althogh I'm only logging tri activities.

Commuting to work on the bike again today.  Put it in my log comments, but discovered my outer jacket was too smelly to use today.  Neglected to wash this yet as it's just a wind breaker type shell.   But, apparently these need attention too, even in cool weather.   Packed it along for the ride home tonight and in case it rains, but couldn't go around work all day being stinky!   Of course, I don't dare comment about being a little cool on the ride this morning with the East Coast Edison teammates dealing with weather in the teens ...brrrrrr.

Yesterday I headed to the track with my wife (she is a mentor for TNT).  I ran with a couple of buddies for 5 miles in 45 minutes.  I was a little tight from the half mary over the weekend.  After that run we did some strength training.

Today I did a an hour five minutes on the computrainer.   It included 2x20 at threshhold pace.  Bah It was tough.

Tomorrow is a day off--I'm going to stretch and use the foam roller.  You guys are doing great!

Was going to swim today....but my husband is defending his dissertation today and has a party after .....I figured after 7 years of working towards it, the PHD trumps my swim hahaha But will hop on trainer later...and everyone is doing a great job...

....and to think I was complaining earlier because its only going to be in the high 60's low 70's later

I was going to give you some flack for choosing PHD over swimming, but you did say there's a party after, so that's ok.

Correct Priority order:
1) Party
2) Swim
3) Spouse's PhD

Hi Guys,

A little about me.  I am training for my very first tri this summer.   Sometimes I think that I am crazy for doing this as I never did really run, bike or swim for that matter.  My thing has always been group cardio classes and weight training at a gym.  However, after battling a very serious illness for the last year and a half, I just wanted to say that I CAN do something like this.  That mentally and physically I can.  So I told a lot of people who initially thought that I was crazy and now I have to prove to them and to myself that I will finish my first tri this year.  Who knows, maybe I'll love it.

Anyway, I am married with two children ages 9 and 6.  My husband who was one that initially thought I was crazy is now a big supporter.  He sees my dedication and sometimes when I don't feel like working out pushes me to do it anyway.  My goals aren't as lofty as some, but they are higher than any of the other months that I have been training - I feel pretty confident that I will make it.

Christy - You got some great kids there in your picture. I have a feeling that you have a helluva story behind all this and if you don't mind, I think I may have to find some inspiration in it for myself as I continue on my own quest. Glad to have you here!!!! You will make your goals!!! We won't let you down. Walt

I battled with Stage IV metastatic colon cancer that spread to my liver.  Six surgeries (of varying degrees and difficulties) and chemo out of the way, and I'm ready to roll.  I finished the last of my clinical trials in December so now it's just the monitoring (the incessent monitoring).  When I tell people what I'm doing (for those who know my story) they all say not to push myself too hard and take it easy.  I say that my cancer is no excuse to keep from trying as hard as I can and since the dr.s have ok'd it, then why not.  So, that's why I'm here.  Anyway, yes, these challenges are great motivation for me and I am sure lots of others.  So, yeah, I guess there's a little story behind my obsession.

Christy, that is a very inspiring story.  You are a survivor.  I agree that, since you have the doctor's okay, you should go for it.  I bet it feels good to reclaim your body.

I got in my run last night, even though I wasn't feeling great.  I'm sure if it wasn't for this challenge I would have talked myself out of it.  I'm hoping to swim after work tonight.

Happy Friday everyone!

Planning a run tonight.  Got a special event that I am in charge of tomorrow, so I won't be doing my usual thing at the gym tomorrow.  The weather here is supposed to be beautiful this weekend.  The 60's for Sat and Sun I believe.   Going for a nice jog outside on Sunday!  I am looking forward to it I think.  (Let's not forget that I'm not a runner by nature!)

I'm back from Fla...and already missing the warm temps.

I had a swim lesson with my swim coach today and I feel like I am making some improvements. I swam everyday in Fla which is not as easy at home.

I have been training alot ...but not exactly according to the plan... I will start to follow the plan more closely next week.

BTW...I would definately choose the party first PhD last

The hubby's doctoral defense is bigger than an IM completion...you do want to be supportive to him for it.  I know I have been there.  Make him get a very expensive dinner with a good bottle of wine, that one needs to be remembered fondly after all that work.

My cold pales in a very insignifcant light compared to cancer, yikes, although yay because I got some meds for it after 2 weeks of coughing up a lung.  I always get sick this time of year for like a long time.

So, my 18 mile bike ride and 6 mile run were not so hot today and this evening's swim will probably be a just plod, or is it drift through it workout.  Not going for any nautical speed records, just want to stay on target for the workouts.  I will probably do a 60 mile bike ride on Saturday and take Sunday off as a day of rest and recouperation.

How's everyone's weekends looking.

Weather is warming up a bit for the weekend. I'll ride a bit tomorrow afternoon, then run Sunday morning with my running club; and get another afternoon ride in - hopefully a nice long one. Gotta make up for the bike since I was away on business Mon-Thu.

I'm soooo tired.  I'd go to bed but good heavens, it's not even 8:00.  I have a 5 mile run tomorrow and 11 on Sunday.  As of right now, it will be a miracle if I get the long run done!  I hate nights like this!  Bed time in 45 minutes!

I had a decent swim tonight and I'm looking forward to an off day tomorrow.  It's the first Saturday since October that my daughter doesn't have 8 am swim team practice, so I can actually sleep in.  Sleep is much needed since I'm trying to fight off a cold.

I did all my planned workouts this week!

I'm looking forward to a run in warmer weather on Sunday.

Have a great weekend!

OK, so I thought that I was over my sluggish workout phase.

Didn't do anything yesterday.  As a matter of fact, I was in the bed at 8pm.  What was up with that?  My husband kept prodding me to go to the gym last night, but I just didn't have it in me.  I have a special event function starting at 11:30 that I am in charge of, so I had to make it a quick workout this morning.

However, by tomorrow, I should have 10 miles into my 25 miles run goal for this month.  Not too bad.

(So Erica, I guess I made it to bed before you!)

Not by much!  I was waiting for a phone call that came at 8:30 and I was in bed right after that!  I was wiped out too.  I was up at the crack of stoopid for a freezing cold run before I had to do family stuff.  I'm ready for a nap now!
