Subject: RE: Marine Corps Marathon : Official ThreadFirst time I realized there was a thread for the MCM...glad I found it! MCM will be my first marathon so I am keeping the training plan to a "novice" plan (Higdon Novice 2 ) this go round. Hoping to run a 3:30 (which the McMillian run calculator says shouldn't be a problem if I am trained properly ). Probably too high of expections for my first 26.2 but that is what goals are for! It has been an adjustment trying to do marathon training while still tri training but so far, so good. It is an even bigger adjustment now that my wife and I are both marathon training (she is doing NYC ) and we both still tri training (and we have a three year old ). I get stuck doing my long ride in the middle of the Sunday afternoon...yuck! I am running for the Injured Marine Sempef Fi fund (link below if ya wanna donate ;- ). Question for the experienced marathoners: How long does it take to get used to running at a "slower" pace? Up until this point, my long training runs (for half marathons ) were 8:00/m. Everything I have read says that long runs should 30-90 seconds slower than what you planning for marathon pace (which will be 8:00 ). I have had a hard time adjusting my times down slower. When I consiously try to run slower, my times are all over the place. Luckily I have a 305 coming my way in a few weeks but any interim advice is appreciated! |
