MDHillSlug - 2009-09-29 10:45 AM I saw my foot doc this morning; if all goes well I might be able to start running in a few weeks! In the mean time I'll still be doing 2x/week PT, swimming and biking.

That's great news!  I know you've been frustrated by that all summer!  Just be careful

He told me not to be overly aggressive and I told him it's more likely that I'll be overly cautious. He thought that was a good thing.

Hi Everyone! I'm James. I took 2 years off after Ironman Canada in 2007 and I just got back into training at the beginning of August. I gained 45 - 50 pounds during those 2 years and have managed to take 21 pounds off in the past 2 months. I've got a few short races planned over the fall/winter and I'm gearing up to race short course again next year.Good luck to everyone!

I don't know much about foot injuries... but did you ask if you could get on an elliptical?  or is it more a ROM issue and not impact issue?

Hopefully I will get cleared to "run" in November... haven't "ran" since May 30th

It's MUCH nicer to my knee   Though technically the doc has not cleared me for it... just like he waited to clear me to bike AFTER I told him I had been getting on my trainer...
I know, I'm such a good patient (with NO patience)

At PT they put me on the elliptical for warmup. When I first saw the doc he said no treadmill, no elliptical; I didn't ask today but I don't have much access to one anyway and my regular run slots are being filled with the PT. At this point I'm willing to wait. (I haven't run since end of July)

I didn't slack here.   Decided to get ready for the challenge with the longest run I've done in over a year.  Felt great.  Pace was not as fast as I'd like, but steady.

I'm ready to wander/trudge/sprint along!

Oh yeah... that goes without saying... I mean I started on my bike for just 5 to 10 minutes at a time.  Last week I got on the elliptical trainer for 10 minutes and then went to the bike for more.  So I'm thinking that 15 minutes at a time with a moderate resistance will be totally acceptable.  I just have to make sure taht I don't rush out of the gym and back to my desk, but take time to stretch and work the ROM on the knee while it's warm, and then ice once I'm back at my desk (or on my way home )
