Made my first step toward my goal tonight.  Completed one session on my new bike trainer.  Woot!  Can't believe how much harder it was to ride on the trainer.  Barely made it through 20 minutes.  Yikes!

How did everyone else do today?

Well I decided to make mine a swim/bike/run goal since I really need more base training in all areas for my crazy plans. I picked enough sessions that I could skip a week while I was out of town.

Hey fellow turkeys!  I've decided to just stick with my 33 miles goal for November and won't be adding a secondary goal.  I've got an eye infection right now that isn't getting any better, so I decided it best to not push myself too much right now.  I went back to the doctor again today (originally went last Tuesday), and she gave me a stronger antibiotic eye drop in the hopes it will clear it up.  Just in case anyone is curious, going 7 days with an eye infection that isn't getting any better is no fun. Tongue out

Hi Stuffed Turkeys! Let's introduce ourselves. What have you been up to in the tri world? What are you long term goals?

I'll begin.

My name is Lisa.
I just started my tri training in April this year and did 4 sprint tri's this summer (though one got changed to a duathlon). I ran a marathon 30 years ago when I was 21 (you can guess how old I am now). I have no plans to do another anytime soon.

Since starting my training I have lost about 40 lbs, though my goal is 100 lbs. I plan to do Olympic and Half Iron distances next summer.
I have arthritis in one of my knees and have issues with that but I work around it and working on my running as it is the hardest and slowest for me. Though my plan is to do a 10K in December and half mary sometime in spring as training for the HIM.

I'm really having fun on BT and love the challenges. Next week I'm off to Aruba for a week in the sun so I'll probably be out of touch for most of it but I will be working towards my goals.

Yeah, I found that a session on the bike trainer was a whole other reality bearing no relationship to riding outside.  Takes some getting used to, that's for sure.  I have made it an hour, but that was with following a workout plan that required me doing something different every couple minutes.  Not sure if I could go an hour straight and still maintain my sanity and my fanny.

I've been doing triathlons for a while now, although not with the same frequency (or speed) in the last few years that I did in the beginning.  Of course, I was younger then (although I've got a few years on Lisa).  I am really trying to be consistent and sensible with my training and now have a coach and my next big race will be the California 70.3 on March 27, 2010.  I continue to fantasize about a European ironman in 2010, but realistically, if I get to do it at all, it will likely be 2011.  It kind of depends on how the 70.3 goes, but by then it will probably be too late to get into any IMs for 2010.

My challenge is to do 40 swim/bike/run session, which is exactly what my coach has planned for me for November.  I have gotten in two runs and a swim and have a bike session planned for tonight, which will put me at 10% of my goal and 10% of the month has elapsed.

Look forward to hearing about everyone else.

Good luck with your training.

My little Intro:

I'm Debb... 35. Artist. (Bookbinding and Metalwork/Jewelry) Married. No Kids. I normally do art-shows and sell my stuff online (Etsy), but no art shows this year. Not worth booth fees with the way the economy is!

This will be my 3rd season of Triathlons. I've done 1 Sprint, and 2 Olys, and last weekend a 15k. I've lost 111lbs since mid '07 and I'm trying to lose about 40 more before I start my structured training for IMOO in Feburary. Triathlons help keep me motivated to exercise and keep in shape, and as you might notice I like to sign up for races that really make me work for it. I'm doing a Half IM before IMOO on July 18th. Either Door County or The 70.3 that MDot took over in Racine.

It's now winter here in Chicago and very little if any races to be found so I'm just base training until my group starts up. It's a training group of 16ish especially geared for IMOO run by a local Multi-sport facility.

111lbs?  Congratulations, that is fantastic

Well hello.  I'm Lynne.  Originally from Scotland but have been living in Washington since 1998.  My husband is American so that explains a lot of things.  Also no kids...yet.

I started doing triathlons in 2007 and I was immediately hooked. I signed up for more right after my 1st one. Ended up doing 7 that year!  My goal is to lose weight, and has been for eons of course.  I quit smoking almost 6 months ago and it's just hard to shift it.  Getting there however.

I am doing a half mary at the end of the month, then after that, who knows.  I'd like to do 2 70.3 next year,as long as they are spread out far enough apart.

Introductions..okay...

I'm Debbie.  I just finished my first triathlon season, completing a sprint and an olympic.  I'm planning more sprints and another olympic next season, plus a half marathon.  I'm building towards IM in 2012.

I'm a yoga teacher, married, two kids, two dogs.  Last summer we moved into our vacation home (a cabin) and we are supposed to close on a proper house before Thanksgiving.  Life's alittle crazy, but I'm trying to make time for my training.

My winter training is focused on running, and I've modified a 16 week half-mary plan to stretch it out.  Should keep me busy until the snow melts.

I'm Stavros, 33 and from London.

I have a feeling my background is going to be a bit different to most people's as I have yet to do any tri's (first one will hopefully be in April). I  took part in a 3k fun run in June and was embarrassed at my lack of fitness as I was unable to run the whole way round!

One thing lead to another and I have now somehow convinced 3 of my mates to take part in 3 Sprint Tri's next year.

So far I am only concentrating on running (as most plans require you to be able to run for at least 20mins and I can't even manage that yet - but getting closer) so my goal is to complete 13 sessions as per my training plan and 12 strength sessions.

Have faith!  I was just looking at my logs from October 2008, my first month of the couch to 5K program.  My last "run" for that October was 30 minutes - but I only ran 6 of those minutes.  A year makes a big difference if you stick with your plan.

And, of course, you have the Stuffed Turkeys for motivation.  Smile

I too have yet to do a triathlon.  I just started training in late August.  I could walk a 5k pretty fast, but could not even jog a whole minute.  Since then I have learned to jog the whole 5k.  My speed has increased to the point where I am actually faster jogging than walking.  LOL  sounds bad, but I had to start off jogging slower than my walking pace in order to build up the cardio endurance...

I was a mediocre swimmer on a HS swim team over 3 decades ago!  (same age as Lisa Wink )  My swimming is coming back well as far as form, but still working on the cardio.  I have been a recreational biker only, so again I am just trying to build up endurance.

I currently plan on jogging two 5Ks one on Thanksgiving and one on New Year's Eve.  I hope to do my first tri in either April or June.

I am loving the variety in tri training, and BT is a great place for info and encouragement.

You are not alone in being at the start of your training.  And good for you that you have influenced others to make a positive change.  Way to take charge of your fitness!!

Congrats on quitting smoking.  I did that myself 13 years ago, so I know how hard it is.  Triathlons are so much better for you!

I'm Rhoda, 34, married with 2 kids (almost 3 and 5). My first triathlon was a sprint that my friend talked me into doing to lose weight after we each had our first kid. That didn't exactly work but we went for the same strategy after #2 and am now down to within 5 lbs of my goal weight. But, man, is it a struggle to stay there! This past summer, I did my first Oly but didn't do nearly as well as I wanted to. I know I need a much better base on the bike and run for next summer. So that's my plan for the winter time. I just to get off my butt and do it now!

My whole house has been fighting the flu, sinus infections and more for the last month which is not helping get on track. Ugh!

Well, hello to everyone!  It is nice to see that we have such a variety of people in the group.  I love the fact that we have some newbies that haven't done a tri before.... you guys can remind us what excitement comes with that first race!!

I'm happy to be captain and hopefully will not drive everyone too nuts!  I want to win and will do my best to keep everyone motivated.  I am really hoping that everyone stays healthy or gets healthy... the bugs that are going around are nuts!

Some background on me, I'm 24 and work as a impatient child psych counselor at a hospital in Green Bay.  I currently going back to school to become a nurse so I work full time and have one class a semester.  I am single (and not so happy about it) with no kids except for the little monsters I take care of at work.

I have been doing triathlons for 4 years.  As I have already said, I attempted but did not successfully finish Ironman WI this year but did do 2 HIM, 4 half marys, and numerous other races to keep me busy.  I love racing, the competition and excitement it brings.  I plan on having a fun year doing my first marathon at Disney in Jan and doing several HIM before signing up for IM WI again for 2011.  Running is certainly a weakness I have so I am going to do a lot of running and biking because anyone who has done IM WI knows the hills are killer.

I look foward to the group environment of challenges.  Part of what went wrong in September was I lost why I do this sport and it became a chore.  I am not going to let that happen again!

Well good luck, I'll be around to cheer you on!
