I wondered about that...you kept sending people to the other teams and passing us up... I claim discrimination. You just enjoy tasering peeps. And since we'll be busy working out, that won't give you much excuse to taser us. |

Based on that I am going to let D001 know and we'll update the name. Seems everyone is doing well with the challenge so far! Yesterday i went for a 13k run and did a 50-minute spin on the trainer. Thank you! And thanks again for organizing. So, we're a smaller team! We have lots of enthusiasm!! :D |

Master 4119 Toronto | Subject: RE: Team 4 - November You-Pick-It Challenge GoGoGo - 2009-11-02 5:34 PM My daily check-in. I had an easy or rest day. Off work a little early & did 20 mins, hills, on bike & 20 minute tempo on dreadmill. Tomorrow night is swim again. I have not swam since I had a bad experience at 8 yo. Been in pool & "beginner classes" since Sept. Things seem to be progressing, but I have no reference point. My 6 year old son tells me I do a good starfish. My 9 year old daughter usually disses me . Anyway, finally got out of the water last week & took a good breath. A monumental achievement for me. A long way from swimming in open water but something for me to work at until spring. Jen, looks like your are our captain, as no one else has stepped up. Congratulations! Team name is fine with me. All others, keep going. It's all about achieving the monthly goal & not leaving anyone behind!!!! GGG Way to go on the swimming! I was nearly in your shoes last year. Though, i was always happy to splash around the shallow end. I took a whole bunch of lessons and did my first tris this past summer. It's a scary thing to face the fear! But even better to smash right through it! |

(I can be happy on Moday because I get to go on vacation starting Friday. First stop IMFL to volunteer, then some hang time at PCB, side trip to Jupiter, FL, before heading back to the Magnolia state 10 days later.) I have become a challenge junkie in the last year, and am so glad to be on the team. I'm a lifelong athlete and have been running for...well, a very long time. Came to triathlons almost exactly 5 years ago. Been on BT a couple of years now. I keep my training logs on another site too for my coach, but I like BT's site much, much better for all the features and, especially, the interaction. Anyway, this month starts my focus on training for a marathon at the beginning of January. I kicked it off with a 14.83 mile-run (gotta' love Garmin with the exact mileage) yesterday in beautiful southern-style autumn weather. I have set my goal high for me: 125 miles for the month. As long as my heel behaves, it should be no problem. I am having a little challenge with a minor plantar fasciitis in my right foot. So far, it hasn't kept me from running. Let's hope it stays that way. Does that mean you're registering for next year?? That actually was the original plan. I did it last year, had a great time, and love PCB. However, when I discovered the Rev3 full distance in Sandusky, OH, at Cedar Point, my husband went all googly eyed and put in a special request for a venue change. He loves him some roller coasters. So, that's the plan. But I am very excited to volunteer at IMFL this year, and may make it an annual thing. Because I love PCB (did I say that already?) |

I am having a little challenge with a minor plantar fasciitis in my right foot. So far, it hasn't kept me from running. Let's hope it stays that way." Wow, sorry to hear about this, especially with a big running month planned. My wife dealt with this for a while. It was really hard to watch since she was trying to get ready for the Nike Woman's Half Marathon. We had to pretty much substitute cycling and stop her running until she felt better. Sorry, didn't mean to be a downer, just acknowledging your pain. Looks like we have a great group! The whole PF thing has been mostly an annoyance. It hasn't stopped me from running (yet), and generally it can be characterized as mild to significant discomfort rather than real pain. I have had my moments of pain, though. Anyway, this turns out to be a good week to try and get off of it for a few days without sacrificing much (if any) mileage. I am pushing my runs back to the end of the week; the earliest I'll run will be Thursday. Hopefully, that will help. Then, when I get back from vacation, there will be a trip to the ART guy and my regular visits with my massage therapist. Fingers crossed this will keep me healthy enough to keep running. After January, I can take a break. But not until then. Gosh darn it! |

Anyway, finally got out of the water last week & took a good breath. A monumental achievement for me. A long way from swimming in open water but something for me to work at until spring. GGG I was in your shoes just 5 years ago. The lifeguards on the course take good care of you. My first tri, I swam out about 400 yds, didn't feel like I could make it back. The guard asked if I was o.k. I told him 'no.' He pushed a float out my direction, and I rested on it, probably for about 4 minutes (tri legal as long as you don't make forward movement with it). Then swam, mostly backstroke back to shore. I vowed that winter that I would spend more time in the pool. Most of my focus was on working on feeling relaxed and conserving energy during the swim. I read a lot of 'Total Immersion' books that winter: www.totalimmersion.net I learned to balance in the water and spent half the energy than usual while swimming. You'll do it! I'm not a swim coach, but feel free to bring up questions if you've got them. We'll help you get there. Once spring gets here, try to swim in open water as much as possible before your first open water tri. No need to swim across the lake/bay/ocean. I would swim just inside the buoys on a guarded beach. Just swimming laps back and forth within the guarded area. Really helps you to sight. Then I 'graduated' to swimming just outside the buoys. Most lifeguards are o.k. with that here. In case you cramp up or get fatigued, you can swim to shallower water and stand and rest. Good luck! Let us know how the journey goes! |

Veteran 294 Germantown, WI | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge Sorry...bit late to the party. I entered my info on the spreadsheet just now. I have been running and biking for about 18 months now. Looking to get into triathlons for next season...need a gym membership so I can get in the pool! My goals are 120 miles running and 16 sessions of strength which is a combo of core, shoulders, and legs. I need to lose about 20 pounds (6'4"/220lbs. currently) before marathon training starts. I pushed too hard and my IT band in my left leg let me know. Two weeks of reduced mileage, slower pace, and rehab...feels good. Great team name BTW! Look forward to getting to know everyone. |

Expert 1157 Tremonton, Utah | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge Thanks for letting me join this motley crew! Excited to be a part of the team Training for Marathon number 6 at the end of February, so my goal is 85 running miles for the month. I've already got a good start with 9.3 miles run this month already. Target is about 22 a week. (UGH -- that's a lot of miles) Looking for a great WINNING team this month. Helps me stay motivated.
And -- you need to watch out for Sparco. I got him into this game... I think I created a Monster! But he's a good man and won't steer you wrong!

Master 1887 Brentwood, CA | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge Alright, it looks like we have added some people from the States to balance out all of these Canucks! Welcome to the new members. It looks like everyone is working hard! I did a little run-swim combo today. Pushed the tempo run harder than planned, but it felt really good. First time back on pavement in quite a while. I would venture to guess that the trail running is really paying off. Baowolf, by the looks of some of the races you have competed in, you might be close to me. Where are you at in California? |

We consider where you live to be central CA, not Northern CA. Anyway 6 miles for me today, lite run with some strides to break it up. I am still trying to figure out how I am going to get in 12 miles tomorrow outside... now that we have no daylight anymore. I hate to move onto the dreadmill when the weather is still in the mid 60s during the day. |

Master 2055 Santa Clarita | Subject: RE: Team Fall-dippides - November Challenge I have a dry cough since the race on saturday and was feeling tired this morning so skipped the bike /run But since It was 80F & i had not swam in a while I got in a swim mile at lunch Well 1650 yds . On the short course . Looked up a mile swim and there seems to be no exact short course pool equivalent. 16 *100 meters on the long course would be closest, albeit 9 m short.
