Was this race wetsuit legal last year?  What are the chances it'll be legal this year?  Just curious!

Yes, it was WSL last year, and will almost certainly be again this year.  The river is chilly year around due to being fed by a deep reservoir 21 miles upstream.  And last year had a wicked fast current on race day.

I registered on 4/23/2010 so apparently it has not sold out yet. Still need to book a room though.

Interesting, I saw a month or so ago they were going with 3500 this year. I know PEM's NO 70.3 didnt sellout. Could Augusta NOT sellout after a steller first year sellout? hmmm.

I'm sure it will sell out by June or July-ish.  If not then my guess would be the economy has something to do with it, as well as increaased competition with other races. I know that Outer Banks added a HIM in the fall and there are a few others that are new as well.  So....there's a lot more races to choose from and with the others being non-MDOT they are more gentle on the wallet

What's also interesting is that a lot of the setupevents that sold out very quick last year took longer to fill this year, or are still open.  I believe the B2B full is still open- haven't checked the B2B half so it could be full already.

So...it's not just the MDot 70.3's taking longer to sell out.  I think in general the economy has a huge impact.

Been dragging my feet on booking a room.  Where is everyone staying?  Rooms I'm sure at the best spots probably already gone, but want to get as close to race site as possible.  Thanks!

Maybe he figured if New Orleans didnt sell out at 3500, and there are only 1250 signed up so far that he would stay with 3000. Just speculation. Last year this time there were only about 600 or so slots available. Personally, wouldnt mind it being a lot less than last year so it wont be so congested, especially in transition.

Im with ya. I'll like to see a cap of 2000. I think the economy is the big reason, plus all the NEW M-Dot races. 7 NEW since 2009.
Im already not planning on doing Augusta NEXT year as I plan on going with Rock-n-Rollman (macon) 1/2, IM Lou, then checking out the new 70.3 Miami to finish the season in Oct.
I bet Miami wont sellout so quick next year with the NEW addition of San Juan.

Hotels im not sure about, were at the Marriott, best place to be, you could call and see if anything has opened up.

I just completed my first half and I got some of the best advice ever. paraphrasing "How do I deal with pain? Embrace it. When it hurts embrace it. That's why we are here. That's what brings us back" This was in response to a question I asked Chris McCormack (He was taking Q & A from athletes). The second (cant recall where I got this) was be prepared to evolve. I finished the course 45 mins slower than my goal. That advice kept me out of the dumps. I wasnt bashing myself instead I evolved lol. I learned there are so many variables that dictate your race. The only thing I can do for my upcoming race is get stronger, be prepared to embrace it and evolve. See you in Augusta! Anyone doing Ironman Cozumel by chance?

Glad to read your blog....... I just raced St. Anthony's (Olympic) one day after registring for Augusta.
When I was 2-3 miles down the run, I started to think...... how can I endure this pain for twice this distance???? There's no way!!!! I just wasted $156 dollars!!  I had to almost walk to keep my heart monitor from blowing up in pieces!
But, as soon as I crossed the finish line I thought " I can't wait to do this again!"  That's in a way kind of sick......... but only you and everyother Triathlete can understand that feeling......... that feeling of accomplishment, a feeling
of not-failure, not this one time, thanks God!!!

I will try to get stronger like you said, I'll try my best. But still, I am pretty sure that this new goal (70.3) it's going to take a lot of EMBRACING PAIN !!!

(I wish I was going to Cozumel. Not ready for that yet. Good luck, I've heard it's beautiful and a great race.)

You are so damn right bro....... I've only done sprints and olys. Can't imagine crossing the line on a 70.3.
IM still a dream.........  but is that dream that pulls my big rear everyday out of bed in to my running shoes, my swimming goggles or my bike.
It's all about the GLORY!!!! It's just that there some bigger ones and more awesome than others........... (and more painful too

the more pain the more glory! and heck yeah on the knowing whats pulling yourself out of bed each day to workout. for me it was the fear of death (or whatever was close to death) during 70.3 then 140.6. that was alot more motivating for me than trying to get a certain time....

I just saw where the mayor of Augusta will be participating in the event. I thought that was pretty cool. Does he have any kind of tri background? The website said he was being trained by Team in Training starting in May.
