well....

My names Amanda, my husband and I just had our first baby boy 5 weeks ago today. I've been back on the saddle for about 3 weeks...when I found out I was pregnant last summer I was in the middle of training for Austin 70.3.

I'm a "retired" college strength and conditioning coach and now just a full time SAHM.

My goals for the month:
Swim:  10 hours
Bike 14 hours
Run: 8 hours

Hi Amanda!  Good job getting back to working out so soon after having a baby!  You're a woman after my own heart!  I did the same thing a year ago!

x2!  I did my first tri after a friend convinced we could lose the baby weight training together after my first.  After my second, I was SO ansty to get training again!

Today's swim = epic failure!

I took baby to the gym childcare.  It was moderately busy.  I asked how busy it was going to get and the woman said "oh, there will be quite a few more kids in here."  I just about decided to leave him in there when the lady said "I have a biter in here right now."

WTF!!!!

Why would someone take a biting child to gym childcare!!!!  Please tell me why!!!!

Needless to say, I did not get my swim done.

That is frustrating...  I always seemed to run into situations like this too when my kids were younger and I considered taking them.  I got so frustrated that now I just coordinate with my husband and leave them home with him.  But this means I usually end up swimming at 8:30 or 9:00 at night.  Not ideal either!

Ugh...  legs felt like crap tonight.  Still got 25 miles done on the trainer though.  Thanks to my husband for riding with me for the first half!  Now, off to bed!

I had a decent swim this morning but the guy I shared the lane with was all into my space with his poor breast and back stroke form; almost felt like I was swimming a triathlon with all the contact. He did end up apologizing.

Those swims are frustrating and usually make me cut a workout short.  Nice job getting it done!

Good morning team, & happy Thursday!

I got a pretty good strength session in last night, and I'm working on getting into the habit of riding my bike to/from places whenever I can to increase my bike mileage.  So last night, I biked to & from my lifting buddy's house on my beater bike.  This morning I rode my road bike to work so that I can ride straight to my friend's house tonight after work.  We're planning a Babylon 5 viewing session (yes, I'm a nerd) so I'll be on the trainer for a few of those episodes.

I spent a long time riding the trainer while watching Babylon 5. I wish more series were constructed like B5 with a well thought out, pre-established story arc. Lost would have benefited mightily if it were built that way.

I never got into Lost, but my friends who are getting me watch B5 were totally talking about that!  They blame the major American networks for ruining good TV and vow only to get sucked into series that are not on a major network.  They also say British TV is better than American TV of having a little more foresight when planning a series. So maybe once I'm done w/B5 I'll start looking into British television....

My husband and I do lots of coordinating, too.  It's a good thing we have partners that are supportive of our habits!  (My husband loves to run so he understands.)

A few weeks ago, I asked a woman if I could share a lane with her.  She said sure and then continued to swim in the middle of the lane!  The lifeguard and I looked at each other with our jaws on the floor.  He told me to ask the fast guy in the next lane because he thought he was almost done.  I just couldn't believe that lady!  Ugh!  Pool frustrations!!

I have had so many bad experiences at the pool.  Nothing like people swimming 4 min 100's breast stroking in the fast lane.

I ran into the perfume/cologne guy yesterday.  Dude was doggie paddling in the far lane during my masters class...which is fine, since one lane is always reserved for people not in the class.  But I had to swim in the lane next to him.  And his cologne was intoxicating.  You could smell it for 3/4 of the lane.  I had to roll farther to make sure no water got in my mouth when I turned to breathe.  Normally I just roll enough so half my mouth is out of the water...but not yesterday.  If I tasted his cologne...I think I would have yacked in the pool.

That is gross.

It also makes me feel good about my decision to drop biking and swimming this year and focus 100% on running.

I run into this every once in awhile with the old ladies that like to water walk.  It's bad when you can smell it in water full of chlorine.  If anything, I get in some good hypoxic sets while holding my breath

Had a nice 50 minute ride on the trainer....I've been stuck on the trainer and will be probally for months ....hahaha its ok though...I could always wait for my husband to get home from work and take the bike out, but its just easier to put baby Cam in his swing, bring him into the office where my trainer is and ride.

Got a strength session in and a 5 mile run/walk in tonight. 5 miles was just under an hour (59:57) and yes I am taking those 3 seconds (time includes walk and run portions). First time in my life ever to go that far.

Now I need to talk myself into that was a good workout and it doesn't matter if it was 12:00 min/mile or that I had to walk and if I have to run/walk the 1/4 and 1/2 marathons this year I will.

Hope everyone had a GREAT thursday!
