How does it go, "You have to stand for something or you'll fall for anything." Am I stirring up the crap here or what? |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Could we think outside the lines on this one, please. How about naming teams after numbers. The Fl. State 12's, no there's already the Big Twelve or is it Ten or Eight, OK forget it. How about after stars ie The Washington Centaurs...no ,what would their mascot look like, a big white fiery ball. |

New user![]() | ![]() (Additionally, there is very little sting in a word like "cracker".) For you maybe! Oh yeah and W.A.S.P. is a great blanket to throw over any white person. I mean who really cares about white guy huh. I mean he is the one keeping every one else down. Really though, affirmative action, PC crap, different score requirements for different ethnicities for education, etc… is not a way to bring people up to the same playing ground so much as it is a way to bring the ones that succeed down to the losers level. |

Hey, ease up on the "cracker" language. I don't know you. Certain peoples can call me "cracker" but others have to refer to me as "cracka" and don't think that just because you can recite the NASCAR top 20 or play a banjo or something that you can call me "cracker". I'm sensitive to these things. I draw the line with the "C" word. Fo shizzle y'all. |

It was Possum who said that its just fine to use derogatory language against the majority. It amazes me that some homosexuals feel that do to there sexual orientation they are more enlightened then the rest of the population! Whoa. I never said it was "just fine." I said it had little sting. Disrespect is disrespect, and is uncool. I once called someone a jerk on this board, profusely apologized, as I was wrong-- but have otherwise NEVER said it was just fine to use derogatory language, and try really hard not to. And since I am nowhere near enlightened, I try have to try hard every day. And the fact that I happen to be gay and you disagree with me (or how you clearly misread me) becomes "some homosexual feeling that due their s.o. they are more enlightened?" Whoa. Easy there. I don;t feel more enlightened, but I do feel that, having been on the receiving end of certain hateful langugae, I am, at times, more sensitive than some people who might chalk respect up to being strong armed into being "PC". Definitely not the whole population. And I understand, I think, why the NCAA has done what it did. That's all. If you disagree with mean this topic, how about NOT bringing my s.o. into it as the reason. And certainly, please, don;t think that homosexuals, even as a subgroup, group feel more enlightened. That's your deal, brother, something you need to work through. .. Edited by possum 2005-08-11 5:42 PM |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The hypocracy of the NCAA is yet again shown. In a statement issued by NCAA president Myles Brand he held up Florida State on Thursday as an apparent textbook case for an appeal in the controversial crackdown on American Indian nicknames in college sports. "To be fair, some American Indian tribes have expressed their approval of the manner in which their names and imagery are used by specific institutions," Brand wrote in an editorial on the NCAA's Web site. "Florida State University is a well-documented case in point, and that will likely be the basis for any appeal. The Executive Committee must take such claims seriously." Of course this is only after The University threatend to file suit, the Tribal Counsel of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, The Governor of the State of Florida, and now the Seminole Tribe of Oklahoma have come out on the side of the university. The NCAA has continued to make absurd claims in an attempt to justify their actions. Schools that were on the 'baned" list were not given notice of the Commitees vote and were not given an opportunity to respond. The NCAA claimed that the Commitees vote was unanimous and thus valid as the Commitee was made up of representatives from the 3 NCAA divisions. Of course we now learn this was false as the Chancelor of Georgia Tech. abstained from the final vote believing that institutions should be given a voice in the vote. We are then told that despite the Seminole tribe of Florida's approval of the use of their name other Seminole tribes object. We now hear from the Seminole Tribe of Oklahoma who state they are not offended by the Universities use of the nickname. Again, this isn't an issue about "respect" this is an issue about Political Correctness, ultra-liberalism and thought police. The NCAA and the talking heads that have come out of the wood work and said they are offended by the Universities use of the name Seminoles are by implication saying that they don't care what teh Seminoles themselves think, that even if the Seminoles themselves aren't offendedm they should be. And because they aren't offended the White man is going to be offended for them and stop an obviously offensive practice. What is offensive in this entire thing is that the voice of the Seminole Tribe of Florida is being blatantly ignored. They are yet again being pushed aside by governing bodies, that are "acting in the best interest" of the Tribe. |
