A little reminder just for us canucks>...

The 4 T's of distance swimming

TECHNIQUE - Keep your stroke long and strong and smooth, with a constant flowing rhythm at all times.

TIMING - Swim with a balanced even timing.

TOUGHNESS -Train hard and maintain great technique and speed no matter tough things get. For example, ask your coach if you can do time trials at the end of your workouts and aim to even split plus swim within 2 seconds of your best time per 100. Challenge yourself to do everything faster, with fewer strokes and fewer breaths. Distance swimmers are PHYSICALLY FIT, TECHNICALLY PERFECT and MENTALLY TOUGH.

TEMPO - (another word for rhythm)- The key to success in the longer races is to develop a pace clock "in your head" and to be able to swim with a constant tempo and stroke rhythm. Distance swimmers love their own company and spending time in their own heads thinking, singing, counting, doing mental homework and other brain stuff.

If that's not enough incentive, my coach said to me today, "swim faster in workout. World record holders perform world records in workout". And it's true. I've heard word of someone's best time in workout was a 47.6, while the record is 47.8. IS YOUR TRAINING OF A HIGH ENOUGH QUALITY???

I'm not too sure yet, I have to talk with my coach, but he's in Victoria for Commonwealth Games trials (I think it's commonwealths, or worlds). Yes, it is over 100k - that's 25k/week or 4 workouts/week. I want to do 7 workouts a week

Is it too late to join? If we want the team to be representative of the country, we need at least a few french canadians! Put me down for 10,000 meters.

Do we have to log our results or just send them to Crazypop?

So we're to give you our totals by monday? my coach wont be back before then. You say if you go over 100% in your goals it doesn't count? I guess I better aim high then... 130km. And I'm really sorry if I beat that.... actually no I'm not.

130 km = 5,200 lengths of a 25 meter pool. Are you friggin nuts! No insult intended - I'm just beyond amazed.

I am nuts, and I might not even come close since I have exams. But if I keep up the work like I have in the last three days, I should hit it no problem.
I'm sorry team, it's a bit cold here lately, and Im getting a little looney.

Well Amy,
suppose you want to go 8 hours, tell BT you'll go 8000m, and for every hour you swim, mark down 1km that you've done (though I'm sure you can go faster than 1km/h). After all, we're just dealing with percents.

as the challenge approaches, I'll take the opportunity to mention that if you're at a loss for workouts, check my log. I've written down everything my coach gave me since september.

OK, I am an Alaskan who is a hell of a swimmer...I would love to join Team Canada if you'll have me... I am aiming for 35000 meters...
Hell, I claim being Canadian when I am over seas because most people hear Alaska and they think Alaska is a part of you anyway--plus it's just easier especially our illustrious leader running around raising hell with other countries, screwing the environment, generally showing his ignorance off (like it's a good thing)...after the last election I was looking to be adopted by anyone from Canada...
I am ready to learn the Canadian National Anthem...I've driven the AlCan 10+ times...I occationally say "eh"... I love driking beer... BC is one of my favorite places...

SO, am I in?

Hell yes! well that's up to crazypop, but I think we're more fond of the North

Didn't Canada get screwed out of most of that land anyway? Well a US history textbook would say different than a Canadian one.

And yes, they can be adapted no problem. Just try to adapt the pace times more than adapting the distance since triathletes are distance swimmers, and need to be doing 200 repeats.
