I would be a bone marrow donor if it came down to it.  I mean we're talking about saving lives, not whether or not guys like short hair or not.  If I can help save a life or make a patient's life easier by raising some money and shaving my hair- to me, it's worth it.

You could donate stem cells. It's kinda like donating blood. My dad is going on the registry to find a donor match for a stem cell transplant.

Good luck with the fund raising. Shaving your head is a gutsy thing. I'll be donating!

I've met Max, and trust me you won't look like him! (no offense Max )

Maybe if you add some stubble and some tatoos you'll come a little closer...

Crap, did I say that outloud? I need to think about it since I'm not doing TNT myself.

We'll discuss privately.

EDIT: Janelle, this is pointless, even if I shave my head I don't have 10 inches to donate. What was I thinking. I really did love donating for Locks of Love and would be glad to do it again, its only to my shoulders now!

Janelle (and All),

When you come to Tampa for Gasparilla, you will likely meet a gal named Terri. She's Jeff's good friend (F150MCO). Terri is currently getting chemotherapy treatment for her breast cancer. I met her after my NYE half mary trail race and again on New Year's Day when she ran a 5k with Jeff.  She told me she was tempted to pull off her bandana and show her hairless head during the run. Terri is your age. She might be lurking on BT (we encouraged/cajoled/insisted that she join BT) and reading your posts.

I hope you make your goal and I hope you get to meet Terri in 6 weeks.

Well yes, because I can't donate my hair. I'm not going to shave it if it can't be made into a wig. I need to let it grow more. And yes, I do plan on donating my hair again one day.

YOu don't have to donate it if it's not long enough.  Just think- you're helping the Society out by helping me raise $2,000 more dollars!  So you'd be helping cancer patients in a different way.  It's up to you

I thought of that and believe me I have no problem cutting off all my hair or even shaving it. I would rather wait a year when its long enough though, raising money and donating my hair too.

I guess I can do it next year for your TNT fundraiser then. Your hair wont be long enough to donate again. How about that?

Thanks!  Honestly you look great with the shaved look!  I was freaking out about it yesterday, but I realized it'll be perfect for GA summers and IM trianing!  No worries.  If I get the $3,000 then that's awesome for the Society!  I'll be bald at St. Anthony's with ya too!

LauraLee - was this a voluntary head shave or are you a cancer patient?

Haley - if you're up for raising money to shave your head, why not get double mileage. Shave it after you have 10 inches to donate (my $0.02).

As any bald or nearly bald man will tell you, invest in sunscreen and hats.  You're going to need a lot of both.  Don't underestimate how fast your head will burn.

It was all by choice.  I figured I was born with hair, at some point I should know what my head looks like.  And now that it has been short, it is so hard to let it get long again, so I keep it about an inch and half, or two inches long.  Particularly down here in Florida with all the heat and humidity, not having hair is so much nicer.

Renee- I would love to meet Terri!!  It's always inspiring to meet patients in person   Everytime I meet a patient it reminds me why I sign up for TNT each year.  It's always worth it!

AFter hearing your story, having a shaved head might be fun!  I'll deifnitely have to wear hats in summer time but that's no biggie!

You'll have a good stubble in no time (to protect from the sun). I shaved my head 2 weeks ago and I already have more than a quarter inch.

Holy cow! Already at $1150!
