Elite 4108 Calgary,AB,Canada | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP- OPEN kkcbelle - 2011-12-19 3:12 PM Welcome, Deb!! I, too, am a SAHM (will post a bio later), so I totally get the 2014 timeframe for IM training. In fact, did the same thing... not when my two both started school, but rather once they were sort-of humming along and I felt like I could arrange my schedule to do most of my training when they were in school. I did IM Coeur d'Alene in 2010 and 2011, and now the kids are at different schools and schedule is wack again and I don't have the IM fire right now anyway, so no more for me for now. Anyway, when the time comes I'm happy to share about how it worked out for me to train during school hours. Some days it was brutal (drop the kids at the bus and leave from there on my bike, roll in from my T-run as the bus dropped them off in the afternoon = no recovery time before being "on the job" again!), but I made it work with what I think was a minimal impact upon my family. I was never able to log all of the training I would have liked to in a perfect world, but I am a Family First person, so it worked out well enough for me. Trevor, do you want me to beat up all these people who are yelling at you to ride your bike? And swim? Cuz I'm right there with ya, pal. (Although I do have that yellow to give me some street cred...) Biking is only ~50% some percent of an IM. Why worry about it. |

Extreme Veteran 347 , Utah | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP- OPEN I would like to come back. I did three Sprint Tri's the spring and summer of 2010. Then injuried my right ankle in the Fall of 2010. This last summer I only did cycling events because of my ankle I couldn't run. My ankle still isn't 100% but I want to get back into the tri training groove. Still planning out my 2012 schedule. Tiana |

Elite 3395 Raleigh | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP- OPEN Name and stuff: Doug Robinson, 6' tall (dropping weight since 2012 is the year of my first IM!). Fifth time with this MG. Location: Raleigh, NC Background: 50 years old and will turn 51 next year. Played Ice hockey most of my life. Quit that in 2008. I was a road cyclist in the late 70's and early 80's and cycling is my strongest event. I was also a bike mechanic off and on for 6 years starting in high school. I am a patent attorney and an electrical engineer. My other hobby is woodworking. I do not plan on making more MG pens in '12. Married 15 years with an 11 year old son and a 13 daughter. I have lived in Mass, Conn. NY (born and raised), DC, VA and now NC. Past Races: In '09 I did sprints and one olympic. '10 I did sprints, 2 olympics and Augusta Half. Did sprints Olympics an one Half in '11. '12 Races: Sprints and Olympics, The FS100 and IMFL. What I bring to the MG: I have a lot of cycling knowledge and am improving my swimming. I have a column on slowtwitch.com about intellectual property as it relates to triathlon. I just signed a sponsorship deal with Epix Gear. I try to understand different training philosophies without drinking the Kool Aid of each as things change all the time. Oh yeah, I am a lousy typist so Fatty (John) is here to heckle me for it! Champion 7163 Verona WI--Ironman Bike Country! | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP- OPEN Suzy Shain - Madison WI (Unless a miracle happens I am the eldest female in the MG and the shortest!) Family: Married for 23 years to Paul aka "the man", no kids, but we do have an awesome Cockapoo, Cooper. Work Part time, train full time.
'12 Races: "A" race is IM MOO, prep races are High Cliff HIM and Door County HIM, a few bike races and sprints. Role in MG: I know a fair amount about running and injury management, try to be the cheerleader and the voice of reason. I hate the HTFU approach and am not afraid to strike back when picked on by Fatty or Trevor. Edited by SSMinnow 2011-12-20 6:07 AM |

Please give him crap about getting his hand x-rayed. At yesterday's cross race (in the mud and ice) he went down on the small stretch of pavement coming out of a mud slick and I think he's broken his hand! It is a lovely shade of black, swollen to 2x the normal size and is numb. He is taking to the John recovery plan of ice=gripping a cold beer and living on Advil. If enough of us gang up on him maybe he'll get some cool photos to post on FB of his hand and that will convince him to get it looked at. p.s. obviously I'm sticking around for year 6!!!
