Welcome, Deb!! I, too, am a SAHM (will post a bio later), so I totally get the 2014 timeframe for IM training. In fact, did the same thing... not when my two both started school, but rather once they were sort-of humming along and I felt like I could arrange my schedule to do most of my training when they were in school. I did IM Coeur d'Alene in 2010 and 2011, and now the kids are at different schools and schedule is wack again and I don't have the IM fire right now anyway, so no more for me for now. Anyway, when the time comes I'm happy to share about how it worked out for me to train during school hours. Some days it was brutal (drop the kids at the bus and leave from there on my bike, roll in from my T-run as the bus dropped them off in the afternoon = no recovery time before being "on the job" again!), but I made it work with what I think was a minimal impact upon my family. I was never able to log all of the training I would have liked to in a perfect world, but I am a Family First person, so it worked out well enough for me.

Trevor, do you want me to beat up all these people who are yelling at you to ride your bike? And swim? Cuz I'm right there with ya, pal. (Although I do have that yellow to give me some street cred...)

Biking is only ~50% some percent of an IM. Why worry about it.

I would like to come back.

I did three Sprint Tri's the spring and summer of 2010.  Then injuried my right ankle in the Fall of 2010. This last summer I only did cycling events because of my ankle I couldn't run.  My ankle still isn't 100% but I want to get back into the tri training groove. Still planning out my 2012 schedule.

Name:  Linda - at 48, a stay-at-home mom and one of the more elder members of this group!

Background: Did this all in reverse order.  After a doctor told my that my RA wasn't gonna get any better, I should focus on maintaining the status quo with  meds, I decided to take a different approach.  I signed up to do IMMOO in September of 2008.  Started running the next day.  Cleaned up an old bike and started cycling a few weeks later.  Ran my first race, Rock & Roll half in 10/08.  Did my first mary 4/09.  My first tri was the Wildflower Long Course in 5/09, and I raced IMMOO in September of 2009!  did a few more in between, and raced IMCdA in June of 2010 (with Kyla!!).  2011 brought the Big Sur Marathon, the SV Oly (with Kim!)  Vineman HIM (with Kim, again!  Actually, way behind her, but whatever!). the Pacific Grove Oly where my youngest destroyed me.  (See a trend here?).  I finished up my year last month with IMAZ - a race I was happy with!

Family Status:
Married to Jeff (4-time Ironman) for 25 years, have 3 kids (22, a recent college grad and in grad school; college freshman, 18 and 15, HS sophomore) and one very fat dog (boxer).  I've got Dino beat on teenage angst in this house!!

'12 Races:
I need to get on this.  Only one registered for is Boston in April,  but I have big plans....ha!  Rev3 is looking good, as is ExpeditionMan.   Pac Grove is a given.

other essentials:  SF Giants; SJ Sharks; SF 49ers.  Oh, and I live in Northern California - just south of Kim!  Way south of all them Canadians, and west of everyone!!!

Love this MG......they keep me sane, and they keep me training.  And more than once, the thought of being tracked has kept me running through the long races!!

STORY: in progress.

FAMILY STATUS: Married (KIM<<) i mean jarrett.  three 2 legged kiddos (Jack is 6, June is 4 almost 5, and Jacy is a b+tch) three 4 legged kiddos (madison the JRT is 12, joe the dog is our 11 year old JRT and tony T is our 8 year old blue healer who was born on St Pats so we always have an excuse to drink on St Pats!!!!

CURRENT TRAINING: having a very hard time getting motivated for anything other than running and some swimming right now.  I'm really looking forward to formal training this summer but not right now.

2011  RACES: The Texas Ironman.  an oly and some running races.

2012 RACES:  The Florida Ironman!!!  btw putting the state name in front of the word Ironman just sounds a whole lot cooler.   i'm registered a 11.5 mile trail run in feb, a half marathon (not MARY, that's bush league) in march, 70.3 new orleans in april.  probably 70.3 augusta in september.

WEIGHTLOSS: i was skinny then i got fat now i'm in between.  right now i'm at ~235.

Goals: just one. show up on the beach in november at 200 pounds. i'm one of those really lucky people that has a ironman run split greater than a ironman bike split.  i f'ing hate that.

BIG welcome to all the new folks and awesome to have some old folks back!!!

Name and stuff: Doug Robinson, 6' tall (dropping weight since 2012 is the year of my first IM!). Fifth time with this MG.

Location: Raleigh, NC

Background: 50 years old and will turn 51 next year. Played Ice hockey most of my life. Quit that in 2008. I was a road cyclist in the late 70's and early 80's and cycling is my strongest event. I was also a bike mechanic off and on for 6 years starting in high school.

I am a patent attorney and an electrical engineer. My other hobby is woodworking. I do not plan on making more MG pens in '12. Married 15 years with an 11 year old son and a 13 daughter. I have lived in Mass, Conn. NY (born and raised), DC, VA and now NC.

Past Races: In '09 I did sprints and one olympic. '10 I did sprints, 2 olympics and Augusta Half. Did sprints Olympics an one Half in '11.

'12 Races: Sprints and Olympics, The FS100 and IMFL.

What I bring to the MG: I have a lot of cycling knowledge and am improving my swimming. I have a column on slowtwitch.com about intellectual property as it relates to triathlon. I just signed a sponsorship deal with Epix Gear. I try to understand different training philosophies without drinking the Kool Aid of each as things change all the time. Oh yeah, I am a lousy typist so Fatty (John) is here to heckle me for it!

Suzy Shain - Madison WI (Unless a miracle happens I am the eldest female in the MG and the shortest!)

Background:
Started endurance sports at the age of 40 after seeing the first IM WI in Madison. I knew one day I wanted to do the race as a way to get over my fear of water. Since I didn't know how to swim and rarely biked I turned to running and did 12 marathons before deciding to tackle the limiter holding me back from triathlon--swimming.   Support from this group, many lessons and some deep soul searching got me to my first super sprint in '08.  Since then I've hired a coach and become a full fledged triathlon addict.

Family: Married for 23 years to Paul aka "the man",  no kids, but we do have an awesome Cockapoo, Cooper.   Work Part time, train full time.

Past Races:  A couple of Bostons, a handful of HIMs and a couple of IM MOOs

'12 Races:  "A" race is IM MOO, prep races are High Cliff HIM and Door County HIM, a few bike races and sprints.

Role in MG:  I know a fair amount about running and injury management, try to be the cheerleader and the voice of reason.  I hate the HTFU approach and am not afraid to strike back when picked on by Fatty or Trevor.

Hello all.  I have a request for those of you who are "friends" with my husband on FB.  Please give him crap about getting his hand x-rayed.   At yesterday's cross race (in the mud and ice) he went down on the small stretch of pavement coming out of a mud slick and I think he's broken his hand!   It is a lovely shade of black, swollen to 2x the normal size and is numb.  He is taking to the John recovery plan of ice=gripping a cold beer and living on Advil.   If enough of us gang up on him maybe he'll get some cool photos to post on FB of his hand and that will convince him to get it looked at.

p.s. obviously I'm sticking around for year 6!!!
