Master 10208 Northern IL | Subject: RE: Rev3 Quassy - Half Rev : Official Thread Today's run. On the treadmill (not enough hills around here). 15 min warm-up. 45 min of 6 min 4% hill pushing the effort (a little below threshold range) and 2 min flats around normal pacing. Ran out the last 20 min at a decent pace for 80 total minutes. Stuff like this has really helped develop some run power and made hills much more manageable. Vary the interval length, flat length and hill grade each run for variety, and done a couple times a week. Cut down the ending flat if this is too long as the hills are the important part of the workout. I respect this course (plotted it out to see the terrain better), but I'm not afraid of it. 1,040 ft of ascending in that time and it has been translating very well to outdoor running. |

Had an OWS Saturday in a lake that should compare to Quassy and it was 58-59 deg in the afternoon. I dont know how it translates, but the hudson rose 3 deg in the last week. My uneducated guess is 68 for the morning of the race. |

New user 3 | Subject: RE: Rev3 Quassy - Half Rev : Official Thread I'm not sure how accurate this site is, but I did find this: http://www.fishingnotes.com/lakeinfo.php?id=3350
It estimates that the water temperature is currently 54 degrees which sounds about right for a lake this time of year. |

Subject: RE: Rev3 Quassy - Half Rev : Official Thread I believe the water temp last year was between 62 and 64 degrees. I remember it being very cocomfortable - not cold and not warm; more crisp and refreshing. You wont need a neoprene cap. My 6 & 8 yr old swam in the lake all afternoon the day before and were never cold. Who's doing the pre-ride this Sunday morning? |

Yeah I'm going to ride around 60-miles Friday, so I'm definitely not going to be fresh for Sunday either; but hey, that's why it's Training I'm psyched that the weather conditions are going to be awesome! |

I have not registered as I wasn't certain I'd make it. Do you have a link for online registration? I thought the Heat pre-ride didn't require registration. |

Subject: RE: Rev3 Quassy - Half Rev : Official Thread I'm going to run with my friend Dan afterwards, if anyone is interested in joining us. We're cutting off the out & back around mile 4, and cutting off the loop through the neigborhood; so basically we're just running a loop around the lake which should be around 7 miles. Probably aim for a 9-ish pace since our legs will be cooked and I'll need a few moments to stop and dry my tears on the killer K-Swiss Mile Climb I'm tired right now and will likely be tired on Sunday so I'm debating whether to ride with the "B Group" or "C Group". I will definitely run with you and whoever else can join us. Pace sounds okay but you may drop me. As far as biking groups I dont know what the time differences are between A, B and C groups but Ill probably ride with the B's knowing that I can drop off at any point and ride with the C's if my legs are unwilling to cooperate. You, as the BT leader and dignitary, need to wear a giant DC on your chest so we can recognize you. |

Veteran 268 Northern CT | Subject: RE: Rev3 Quassy - Half Rev : Official Thread Went down and ran the course today...ouch!! Glad I had read a review that talked about the dirt road around mile 3..I think otherwise I would have turned around thinking I was lost! A little woodys back there but all was good!! Glad I could make some mental notes. It's also really nice with all the recent rain...all the brooks were babbling away taking my mind off how much my legs hurt! Wear plenty of sun screen as the shade really ends at mile 5 and doesn't really come back until mile 9 or 10! Plan to do just the Judd Hill loop (miles 9-13) after the bike preview. See you all Sunday ... I have a QR CD 0.01 camouflage pink..so I tend to blend in!! |

You, as the BT leader and dignitary, need to wear a giant DC on your chest so we can recognize you. I mapped the Run Course and without out & backs it's 7.2 miles just going around the lake. I plan to run past the amusement park and run the dreadful hill, too. Here's the link to the route. This is the route we'll be running this Sunday. Again, this route passes Quassy at 7.2 miles - so you can drop off then if you choose instead of running down and running up the BIG HILL which on race day will be at mile 12.5. www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=481037 For anyone who wants to say Hi or join us for the optional run, I am going to place an orange construction cone on the top of my minivan so it'll be easy to find us in the crowd of 200 to 300 people in the Quassy parking lot. Subject: RE: Rev3 Quassy - Half Rev : Official Thread brigby1 - 2012-05-17 3:56 PM Wish I could make it out there. Curious to hear about the road conditions after you guys go around. Road conditions were very good. Few rough spots but overall pretty smooth. Few areas are freshly paved; there is one section around mile 45 that is an old farm road that's chewed up pretty bad but it's short and flat. We also had dry streets which was nice; the last few times I did this race the roads were a little damp in the morning which makes the dive-bomb descents a little gnarly. On the run course Mile 3.5 (the horrific terrible climb) there are a few grooves put into the dirt that I didn't fancy. But again, nothing major and it's only for a short distance. Overall I would actually say the Bike and Run course roads are in Excellent Condition. My Garmin recorded 5,176 feet of climbing. 5,207 of descent. My garmin elevation graph is a little finer than the one on the race website (mine shows the two reprieves during the 24 to mile 31 climb. I'll post it later today along with some pictures. The course is so scenic and damn picturesque. It's actually the most beautiful course I've ridden next to Placid. |

Subject: RE: Rev3 Quassy - Half Rev : Official Thread VERY IMPORTANT: Right after the long climb at Mile 31.4 there is a NASTY S-CURVE Descent. BE CAREFUL. A half dozen cyclists at each Rev3 Race have wiped out on this curve. Last year I saw a police officer there helping a riding who had fallen and waving other riders to slow down. Right after the long big climb, on my Garmin it was 31.4, there is a STEEP PLUNGE that just hooks left hard out of nowhere and then right. If you bomb this on the aerobars without a brake lever it's dicey. And right after this S-CURVE, there is another plunge with a Stop Sign and a sweeping left; but on race day traffic will be stopped. All the other descents are pretty straight-forward and non-technical. JUST BEWARE of this descent. |
