Mike,

I'm also from Austin, NW.  I train at Pure Fitness Quarry Lake.  Luke's Locker Happy Hour Run is tomorrow night at 6PM.

I'm doing most of the races that you have planned and Kerrville is my first HIM A race.  Looking forward to meeting you in person.

Ok, veterans.  Silly question time.

I got derailed on training last week due to work demands.  Missed 4 days in a row during what I think was supposed to be my high volume week.  Now wondering what to do for these last two weeks leading up to the Olympic.  I'm kind of drained from work.

OWS last night, pool work tonight.  Running 4 miles tomorrow with a group.  Swim or spin on Thur.  What else should I be doing besides fretting?

Adrian, Luis and Ted, welcome to the group!

I live in the Dallas area and maybe you've heard about the tornadoes today and the incredibly bad weather. I almost had a heart attack today while watching the sky spin right above e and hearing the sirens go off. Nothing happened though other than hellaciously big hail and a big scare.

Tongue out

Okay, okay, you win.  I'll take a bit of snow over tornadoes and tennis ball sized hail any day...

You know what you should be doing - leave it behind.  The real benefits of your training come from the months of work you've put in.  Missing a few days will make no real difference to that, and if you're feeling tired the best thing you can do is make sure that you taper well and get plenty of rest so that you're fully recovered for the big day.

Some day (probably soon) I may need you to repeat the above back to me... Wink

That's some scary stuff, glad you're ok. My daughter is TERRIFIED of tornadoes, fortunately LI NY isn't prime twister real estate.

Swimming is my limiter and really have no background in swimming - define Build and Pace.  Thanks.

A Build is basically an interval type set where each 25, 50, 100....whatever... is faster than the previous. eg. 1000 meters- 100 at 2:00, 100 at 1:55, 100 at 1:50 etc.

A Pace is a set distance where each interval is holding roughly the same speed. 500 meters on 10 mins  (2:00 per 100 meter pace)

Today workouts, 30m swim in the morning, 30m run afternoon. Feeling tired at the workouts this week, this being recovery week and low intensity/time was expecting to feel better.

Will be away for the Easter, not sure if can get into the forum, happy holidays all.

jdiis - 2012-04-03 9:52 PM We're missing Markz from Down Under!

Thanks for noticng Jackie! And a big HI to everyone here!

NAME: username: markz / first name: Mark

STORY: This is my 5th year of triathlon training, prior to that I was mainly running for fun. I don't do many races a year. so far I have completed a Sprint in Wisconsin, few Olys in Chicago, IM 70.3 in Racine and Full IM here in Australia (Port Macquarie). I also have several 1/2 Marys, 3 or 4 Marathons and many shorter running races under my belt.
I love being fit and at this point races provide only a minor motivation to workout. I don't care about being fast, but rather get the kick from being able to do the distance. Still, love the races, the excitement etc.

I'm 'originally' from Poland, but since lived in Austria, USA (LA, Hawaii, Chicago) and now Australia (Gold Coast).

FAMILY STATUS: Married to a beautiful Colombian girl (I am still not speaking Spanish, just the bad words, body parts etc.), we have a beautiful 4 yo daughter.

CURRENT TRAINING: I don't follow any training plans, just make sure I can comfortably do the distance I plan to race. I also noticed that I tend to concentrate on 'why', rather than 'how' (and as a result I complete hard distances, but I'm slow).

THIS YEAR'S RACES: I plan to do the Gold Coast Marathon again and would like to make it a yearly event. Other than that - Brisbane to Gold Coast 100k bike race and some shorter running races.

WEIGHTLOSS: I'm one of the lucky ones who never have to worry about it. As long as I remember my weight has been 150 lbs, give or take a few. I have been a vegetarian almost all my life, maybe that has something to do with it, I don't know.

Does Luke's do a Happy Hour Run every wednesday?  I've been thinking of doing a few of the Splash N Dash's at the Quarry this summer.  Mostly I'll train at the JCC because it's about a block from my office.

I'll look for ya at the races!

Did a 12.5 mile run today in slightly under 1:45.  HR averaged at MAF +6, but I think that can be attributed to early morning humidity during the first half of the run.  As the humidity abated, my HR dropped and my pace increased.  Less work and faster pace . . . thank you Dr. Maffetone.
