Weighed in this morning at 162.6 which is down about 3 pounds from where I have been hovering, which was 165.5.  Happy about that.

I was planning to run this morning and 30 minutes before my alarm goes off it starts lightning and heavy downpours.  I enjoy running in rain but getting struck by lightning is not on my bucket list.  I am going to run at lunch and hope to sneak in a bike late this afternoon.

Work is going to be crazy busy until we leave for FL next week.  Be nice to let go of work for 10 days.

James:  Very good news for you.  Good to hear.

Fred D - 2012-04-03 5:51 AM What's on tap today team?

Let's see.  I am going to laze around a bit.  Then laze around some more.  Then a tiny bit more.  lol  Kidding.  I am actually ready to start doing some light working out but not entirely sure what that will entail.  There was talk of swimming so perhaps that, although if I can get some shoes that fit rock climbing will win.  No running yet though.  I have to break down the bike later today and get it packed up.  I leave Austin tomorrow.

With a 5k, 35k, 5k DU coming up I am wondering how to approach my training between now and April 28th.  Not planning on anything serious training wise until Monday, but that leaves me two full weeks of training then a taper week (well, I'll probably just take it easy the last half the week).  I don't know that I want to do any intervals next week on the run but maybe a faster pace tempo run.  Intervals on the bike would be ok though.  My main goal is to beat last years time and I am coming in with a way bigger volume then last year.

Weighed myself a couple of days ago, and I'm right about 154lbs.  Helps my watts/kg numbers. Wink
I'll likely be right around this weight all year, even when in full training, but I certainly take some flack for being too thin.

Plan on swimming at lunch, and riding the trainer tonight.  Most of my rides are trainer based with usually only one opportunity per week to ride outside.

Welcome to the group Jason, Wesley and Neil!

I am also looking forward to this round number two of this group.  Is it me but this thread displays very different than the last one.

Weighted in today at 179 lbs up 3 lbs. This was very expected with lack of training last week.  I will also have to post my bio.

Daughter biopsy went well yesterday.  The Dr’s procedure report has some good news that the cyst appears benign.  Test rests and meeting with the doctor again on Apr 13.  I let you know.

AWESOME news James!!!!  AWESOME!!!

Name:Rudy B  (rudedog55)

Story: I started all this for a charity bike ride in June of 2008, i weighed about 260lbs, i signed up for the 12 mile ride, training went well, so i bumped it to the 25 miler. 2 and a half hours later and lots of cramping and a near fall where i could not pedal up a hill that resulted in a 6" scar on my legs i finished, totally spent, but it laid the groundwork for the next 4 years. I have since been doing Tri's and bike racing since that charity ride and have completed 2 half irons and a bunch of sprints and olympics. I currently weigh 203lbs on my way down to 190 hopefully by March 1 for the start of bike racing season.

Family Status: I am married with a 2 year old daughter.

Current Training: I am currently working with Coach John Hirsch, who is a professional triathlete. I had a bit of a mental breakdown in mid Feb to almost all of March, i am hoping it was only a little early season burnout, after talking with friends who ar mostly Iron distance athletes and my coach, i pulled my head outa my butt Sunday, and am enthused to get back to racing and training.

2011 Races: Ridgefield CT sprint, Patriot Half Iron, Mossman Sprint and Martha's Vineyard Olympic. I PR'd at all 4 races, Set bike course records at both sprints and won clydesdale in the two longer races. I also got in about 15-20 bike races of varying disciplines from Criterium to TT and Cyclocross. I am currently a Cat 4 roadie with enough upgrade points to achieve Cat 3, which i will do in the spring of 2012

Planned 2012 Races:  Spring bike racing, REv3 Quassy, Patriot Half iron, Mossman Sprint and the Martha's Vineyard Oly,  as well as another 20 or so bike races

Weightloss: i was a skinny kid that got fat on booze and crappy food, i am currently on my third winter diet to lose the last 25lbs, i have already lost about 15 of those and have a little bit more to go.  Update, i had started in November at about 225, i had seen a winter low of 202, then the wheels came off the bus, Feb and March were the worst, and as of monday April 2 i was back to 215, my goal is a flat 200 by June 1, since i am racing my last Clydesdale race at Rev3 Quassy.  I would love to be 190lbs.

Goals: I am an ultra competitive person, i set big goals and work my tail off to get to them, all while trying to maintain a life/family/race/training balance. It is not easy.

Rev 3:  Sub 5 hours, have a top 5 amateur bike split

Patriot: Sub 4h 45m, place in AG m40-44 and have fastest bike split of the race

Mossman: Sub 1h5m, place or win m40-44, lower my current bike course record

Martha's Vineyard: Sub 2h15m, top 5 overall, Sub 1hour on bike

5k: sub 20m

10k sub 40m

Bike racing: win the Bethel spring series Cat 4 class, upgrade to Cat 3. Place in a Cat 4 Cyclocross race and upgrade to Cat 3

Update:  Bethel did not go as planned, and that hurt mentally as i had worked hard for it, everyone was in shape due to a soft winter and i could not get good results. I have lost most of my upgrade points and looks like i will be Cat 4 for most if not all of the year.  Between the lack of success and the death of a friend in a race, i kinda went self destructive in March, April is already starting out positive, and i will keep the good mojo moving and have a good season.

All the other goals remain intact, i have 10 weeks to finish prep.

No wonder why this group was done as a continuation.  Seems like a great bunch.

Neil is also following me around...  I think this is the third straight mentor group we've been together in.  We we're in Fred's group last summer.  And I guess we're back for more.

So...my first question for the group is who trains with power?  I know Neil and Fred do, I've been using power for almost 2 years now and am addicted to my power meter.

I started using trainerroad this past winter, i really like it and find i get better workouts over RPE which is what i used to use.

here is a link to my 20min test done in Feb, i will do another tomorrow to assess the damage done by stupidity in March.

Fred D - 2012-04-03 10:04 AMGood luck on the 20' test Rudy.I am riding one of the most hilly rides in all of central PA in a little bit, just waiting for it to warm up a bit. There are 4 big climbs that range from 10'-18' each and require me to go pretty hard just to make it up.I like to look at the power data from the 3rd climb as it is almost 20' and is probably not a bad FTP type test. In general you shouldn't do an FTP test while climbing, however I think I accept some fudging here in that my legs are a bit tired going into it from prior climbing so its a wash from the climb benefit to the FTP.I will report back later, although I suspect Rudy's FTP will dwarf mine lol.
I know that ride. Black Mountain or better known as Black Mo.Have a great ride Fred.

James - That is great news about your daughter!

Fred - have a great ride today....we do not know what hills are here in South Texas.  The best we can do is riding over an overpass.

Just finished eating breakfast and know it is off to the grocery store.  The plan for today is to get some more rest in before having to go back to work tomorrow.  I am hoping for rain so I do not have to umpire a baseball game tonight.  My legs are still pretty sore and even though I am in the field tonight and not behind the plate, I think it would be tough moving around...so start doing your rain dances for me!

Welcome, Rusty, Neil, Wesley!

Great news, James...will keep hoping for the best.

I woke up with a little fever and sore throat this morning...ugh. I'm rarely sick, but this on top of post-race soreness is miserable.

I would really like to get in the pool and do an easy swim, but tomorrow would be the earliest I could make that happen. With the fever, I probably need to just lay off today anyway.

Like Nikki, I am hoping for rain tonight. I'm supposed to broadcast a baseball game on the radio, but would really like to stay in this evening and be well rested before having to go back to work tomorrow.

Weighed in at 195.6 this morning.  Getting from 250 to 200 wasn't as much a struggle as getting under 190.  I think 175 - 180 would be an ideal racing weight.  I've got an accounting business and a restaurant, so in about two weeks I will be able to really focus on getting that last 20 lbs off and a lot more on my training.  It hasn't been bad so far this year but I set some big goals for myself this year (mainly surviving 2 HIM and IMFL) and I'm going to have to really buckle down.  I ran 5.1 miles this morning and I have Master's swimm tonight.  Today was the first day I've been able to run in a couple of weeks.  Had some issue with my calf but it seem to be better now.

Like Jason, I love my PM - and hope to train even smarter with it this year.  And yes, I'm a stalker with a smile...

Rudy, our power tests are quite similar, the only difference was that those numbers would match my 1min test...

TSimone - 2012-04-03 1:51 PM 60 minute run cut short by an unexpected thunderstorm.  Well, at least unexpected to me.  Embarassed  So far in the 2 years I have been running I have found that dogs and lightening can get me under 7:00/mile pretty quickly.

that made me laugh!!!  Thanks!!!
