Good Luck Kirk, Janyne and Kirsten!

I'm doing a pub crawl tomorrow with our masters swim group and whoever else wants to join.  Rolling on the mountain bike on multi-use trails and a few sidewalks with at least 5 stops.  Should only get into the 90's so it will be a nice "cool" day for a change.

Have fun with that, Peanutbutter!

Salty and I have been talking about you all week. In a manner of speaking.

Good luck to all the racing manatees and the bridal showering and pub crawling ones too!I'm running, biking and swimming a bit this weekend and since I put it off last weekend, I guess I'm doing yard work too.

GO RACING MANATEES!!!

I will be following as best as I can.  The keg bike picture actually made me think of something, and oddly enough not beer this time.  I am in the process of updating the course work for my bike class, some of the material used is from the 80's, and really could use any funny/interesting pics or movies of biking, pictures of injuries (road rash etc) that I can use to add some life to my presentations.  If anyone has anything they would be willing to share could you email it to me at kjacobsen102 at gmail?

Home and should do some sort of run or bike but it is 98 degrees with a 110 degree heat index.  Vote of the POD harden up or take it easy?  Also later isn't an option have plans with DW

I find that biking is "easier" to do in the heat than running, especially if there is a breeze... but 110 heat index? Ick!

I'm stuck late at work because of more sick employees. So, my bike will get packed back into the van and I'll ride on another day, probably tomorrow morning. So, I suggest that we ALL take it easy!

Asking some of the wrong people!  I say HTFU but bring plenty of hydration/have access to hydration along the way.  If you stay hydrated you'll be fine.

Edit:  I'm talking bike, I say pass on the run.  But if you do run, you're a badazzzzz!

I am going to squeeze in 2050 meters at the pool before going home to cook dinner for the in-laws.  Tomorrow 35 miles on the bike and (hopefully) a 5 mile run before we take them sight-seeing.

Well, I'm not really racing this weekend, but the local running club has a 5k fun run every Saturday at Garden of the Gods. I'm going for sure, and I think Ben may go as well. The Pikes Peak Marathon winner, Matt Carpenter, is supposedly going to be there, and Ben has a little bit of idol worship going on about him. I could ask him right now who won the last six Pike's Peak marathons, and he could not only tell you his name, but his winning time. lol When he heard Carpenter might be at the 5k fun run, he didn't even hesitate and said he was going.

We did the cog railroad this morning. Wow. That's all I can say. Just amazing. We also drank some of the yummy soda springs water in Manatou. Really delicious.

New weekend consideration:  Friends are trying to get me to do a century ride on Sunday.  I did 88 once (before the crash), most I've done since was 48 last weekend.  It's a bike tour, $30 reg. fee you get a pint glass.  I need a good ride this weekend, was planning on doing 50 at solid effort 20mph+ but is 100 at 17-18 mph better?

So the choice is ride far or ride hard? If you haven't done 100 yet, I'd say do that. And a free glass to boot. Is the glass filled with anything when you get it?

I'd second that. I don't know about 17-18mph, but hey, if you can swing it, swing it.

Breakthrough alert! I am pretty pumped about my swim today. Not in my logs yet but the plan said to do 100 X 3 decreasing the time each time. So the first one I did 2:23 which is about normal for me so I figured I could beat it. The next one was 2:17 And I thought how am I going to beat that? the next one was 2:16!!!!! That's not a record for me but it's pretty dang close.
Okay back to your regularly scheduled pod-talk.

This is the BEST Manatee-Pod type talk of all ... a Manatee, SWIMMING? Does it get better than that (other than munching seaweed, maybe? )

Very well done!

We shall be looking forward to that video soon Laughing

I go to bed and wake up to 4 pages on a new thread!  Wow!

Feeling sorry for myself but not too much - doctor gave me antibiotics which i may or may not take...I'm feeling a bit improved so hoping my body is healing itself.  But he did say rest, told him my weekend plans, he looked stern.  I compromised to the swim today but I may run tomorrow we shall see!

Watched a couple of hours of the opening ceremony - even with the Australian commentary team I would have been very drunk - first ten mins I watched I got two sob stories, 3 Michael Phelps mentions, an Usain Bolt moment and at least 4 countries I'd not heard of.  Tuvalu?????

Paul McCartney needs to start saying no.  The Queen looked lovely.  I cried when Ali was on, just bawled.  Now there is a superb athlete and human being.

All in all I enjoyed what I saw.  Dammit I'm not going to be home to watch the mens' road race tonight - the one thing I really want to see!  Never mind will watch the womens.  Artemis so excited about the gymnastics.  Lots of late nights ahead as we are 9 hours in front of the UK so lots showing at midnight onwards.

Triathlon though is on a good Australian time, cannot wait!

well as I can't ride or run now I am off shopping, retail therapy cures most colds and coughs.

I'm looking forward to watching the opening ceremonies in about an hour...cause I'm a sentimental old fool--I have watched them at every Olympics that I have been around for; it is a total tradition. I'm gonna try to catch the tri action, but who knows, scheduling wise!

As for my weekend plans, a swim tomorrow and a 5 mile run on Sunday---I don't know if I mentioned it the other night or not, but I swam a full mile (in one session!)--in the next race's swim venue, no less!

Oh yeah, I also get to go to/work at a zoo event tomorrow---the Ice Cream Safari--all u can eat ice cream (and cake, for the zoo's 85th b-day)....Can I just say NOM. nomnomnomnom

The marvellously mad Manatees that are racing this weekend are: (drum roll please)

July 28-29
Janyne - Full Vineman on Saturday
Melanie - Sunset Stretch 5k on Saturday
Kirsten - IM Calgary 70.3 on Sunday
Pauline - Fairland Aquatic Center Sprint on Sunday Better also add Felicia and her small, but perfectly formed 5K event and Kirk doing his thang with the Carleston Sprint series (if he's sobered up from the boat party). Plus Tracy's 100 miler with the free glass.
