velocomp - 2013-01-23 7:06 AM So I know that Jay Z is with Beyonce, but doesn't it seem odd that someone with a history of Gun Violence is sitting up with the president when he is pushing gun laws???  And I'm pretty sure he has been convicted of a felony but I'm sure he has plenty of guns.   Hmmmmm.  Just kind of made me laugh at the double standard in Washington.
And not for nothing, but Jay-Z has no convictions for felonies or for any gun-related charges.

I'm pretty sure he got pulled over with drugs and guns in the car, he refused search until the K9's showed up, then it was all over. One of his 99 problems if I recall correctly.

^^Snerk.

Pulled over does not equal conviction. If I recall, his bodyguard took the rap for it.

Jay Z probably didn't even know they were there.

Ah, good thing, now that he attended the inauguration with the one problem he feared the most!

I remember that. His bodyguard was found with the gun on him, but all three people in the car were arrested for weapons posession.

I couldn't find anything anywhere about his being found with drugs or anything having to do with K9 units. A source might be nice, if you can find one, as long as we're accusing people of having felony records and a history of gun violence.

IIRC he did admit to stabbing someone didn't he?  Got  probation for it... he fessed up out of fear of the up to 10 years felony conviction if it went to trial.

This is a fun read about Jay Z and his stand up past...

Quick chronology: Shot his brother at 12, crack dealer by 13, stabbed his producer in '99, and campaigns with Obama in '08!

In another time the Secret Service wouldn't have let him within a mile of the POTUS....these days you can have that type of past and sit right next to him.....but the President doesn't want me to be able to own a 30 round magazine for a rifle.

You can't make this stuff up. LOL

In another day and time the president, heck even regular folks, wouldn't want to be within a mile of a guy like that.

Let me premise this by saying I'm not throwing rocks, but I'm just really curious.  I think it's appropriate for the inauguration to happen on MLK day.  It would have been even more appropriate in 2009 ( I honestly can't remember if it was).  That being said, I'm just very curious since we're talking about cost.  How much more did the inauguration cost since it was done on a Holiday?  That's a lot of overtime, possibly double time.  It may be a wash, or not that bad at least when referring to emergency services, secret service, etc.  Those events are generally paid for with overtime and it's a line in the budget already.  We'll never know I'm sure, but I wonder.

True, we won't. But what we do know is that the 20th Amendment to the Constitution states that the inauguration is at noon on Jan. 20. Traditionally, if the date of the inauguration is on a Sunday, then the public event is held at the Capitol on the Monday following. So, MLK Day or not, them's the rules.

The 2009 inauguration day was Tuesday, Jan. 20th, MLK was the day before and President Obama retook the oath of office on Jan. 21st.

When you raise a $$$gazillion$$$ for a reelection campaign, you get good seats. I wonder what other favors Mr Z will ask for...

Not for me.  Actually we had a big conversation about this yesterday.  I only got straight comp time for the hours worked.  So basically I saved the taxpayers money.
