I have a question for all you folks that have done the race or have at least ridden the course. Wheel selection... So I am fortunate enough to own a set of 404's that I bought a few years ago and then bought 808's this season. I was going to sell the 404's, but decided to keep them for IMLP. I keep gettting mixed messages.
What I am thinking about riding: 404 front, 808 back
(basically a 606 set-up
). This gives me the lighter wheel up front and a little stiffer wheel in the back.
What Zipp says: Zipp has a nice place on their website that has wheel selection for every Ironman. They say run the 808's, front and back.
Now, I watched IMLP on Vs. last year and I saw some Pro's
(women and men
) riding Disc's and 808's, But what I saw the most of was the 606 selection. I look to see what the pro's are riding because they usually have a choice. Most amateurs ride what they have.
Given that this is not a TT and even though I am a strong cyclist, I am not going to be hammering this ride by any stretch of the imagination. I can only fit 2 wheels in my bike box, so I have to ride what I bring regardless of conditions when I arrive
(which is another reason I am leaning towards the 606 set-up
). Any input will be MUCHO apprecited.
Also, I hear it gets windy on the ascent back up to Whiteface, any thoughts on how windy?
Good luck to all!! We will be swimming 3 weeks from now
(well, I will at least, 1:06 into the swim
