Happy New Year Everyone!!!!

Okay, here's  a little intro for those who don't know me (or maybe forgotten who I am)

My name's Heather, 33 and married with 2 boys (18mo and 4yr), a cat (15yr), and 101lb mutt (7yr)...  I've been in the fitness industry since a fluke in '95 (lived in a town I hated, so I started working out to occupy time outside of studying), but for all the races I've helped organize I've never raced one myself.  My first tri is planned for June 7th '08.  Despite growing up in the south, I do not did not really know how to swim 'til last month's challenge (and I NEVER logged running miles until the challenge in Nov - Thanks Nibbs)  And as a byproduct to all of this,I hope to loose some weight too (as I take a bite of choc covered popcron   )  I actually work in a community rec/fitness center, so I have no excuse for not working out (except that in Jan I will be spending two days a week on the mtn and hope to log over 100K vertical feet of skiing!!!)

That should about cover it now, except one last thing....

GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!  (yes, I AM a TRUE Tiger, come rain or shine)

I'm a 46yo parent of two (16yo boy, 11yo girl).

I rode a bike everywhere as a kid but not so much after I got my driver's license. I did some bike commuting in graduate school in Boston but then moved to Chicago and pretty much didn't touch a bike again for almost 20 years. In 2003 I bought a trainer stand and started working out in the basement. In 2004 I bought a new bike, a hybrid, with the intention of getting back out on the road. I finally made it out onto the road in spring of 2006 for a small, local charity ride (only 10k) but had already set my sights on doing a 25 mile diabetes Tour de Cure ride the following month. That ride was a huge success. The bug had bitten and I moved up to a road bike that fall. That's when a friend told me about the Iron Girl triathlon she had just done. That got me to thinking "I could do that!" What was I thinking?!? I started running in October 2006 and stated swimming (poorly) that December. This summer I completed two triathlons. Along the way I had to deal with a sprained ankle and kneecaps that stopped tracking properly. I'm on the mend and looking forward to three triathlons in 2008, a metric century ride for the Tour de Cure, and a few 5k races along the way.

I love working out and celebrating the improvements and milestones. The triathlons and races focus my training. I'll probably never reach the podium but I love seeing that I'm capable of more than I ever thought.

Most of my family thinks I'm crazy but my partner (usually) gives me her full support.

Hi team Flying Fish!

I am a 44 year old grandmother who started down the tri path on April 1st, 2006.  I have a great husband who is a wonderful support and cheerleader.  I had been swimming almost everyday for a year prior to that due to cholesterol and weight issues. In the fall of '05, I lost both parents in a months time.  It was a strong kick to get off my butt and start taking better care of myself and do some things that I had always wanted.  I was a very active kid, participating in track and gymnastics and remained active through adulthood with things like softball, rock climbing, dancing and sailing but it wasn't enough to fight the genetics and stress eating.  Tri training made a huge difference, both physically and mentally.  I completed four sprints in 2006, a 1/2 marathon in Jan '07.  I sort of fell off the training when I decided to quit my job and start my own business.  Which has also brought back some the weight that I had originally lost.  Training has been spotty at best since about April.  I raced one sprint this year, in August, then started training, in earnest for the Houston 1/2 with two friends but injured my achilles along the way.  This was and is a huge drag and I am still trying to get over the injury. Running is out for me until further notice so that's why I signed up for this challenge to get me motivated to get training again on a regular basis.

I have participated in a couple of challenges but I am most excited about this one and looking forward to the inspiration and accountability that comes with it.  Unlike many triathletes, I actually enjoy the time in the pool and can't wait to get back to it.  This will be quite the challenge, with the weather change here in Houston.  I use an outdoor pool and tomorrow mornings temp will be around 30 degrees.  BRRRRR!!!!  The pool is heated and it's a short trip from the locker room to poolside, it shouldn't be too bad.

Happy New Year everyone and let's rock this challenge!!!

Hey Fish,

Manatee Express, (Ken) I live in Gulf Shores, AL and train and race with my wife who got me into this game.

I have been doing tri's since 2002 and on BT since 2005. I train for fun and fitness. 2007 was a slow year for me. I did Ironman Florida in 2006 and between burnout and work I just didn't train very well. I hope to get a little more competive this year and this challenge is my push back into the pool from which I have been absent for 2 years.

Planned a race is gulf coast half ironman in panama city florida.

I will hit the pool tomorrow morning!

Swimming is my weak point so I want to become a fish for the next couple of months.

About 12 years ago, I wrote a really cool website. It had lots of backgrounds like this one....

Those brain cells have since died. However, I held onto some of the cool stuff - like that background.

LOL

Hint on backgrounds - you have to be careful with them. If they're too "busy," the text gets lost.

How about everyone else? Were you/are you going to swim today?

Pool was closed today. (Also, I was on the road for a big chunk of the day, so I didn't work out at all.)

I'm JUST getting over a cold. (I'd accuse Cat of giving it to me, but she's kind of far away....)

So tomorrow, I hope to swim. Keep your fingers crossed that I don't start coughing halfway down the first lap. Coughing while swimming will NOT lead to a good workout! :P

Ummm bio.... Im Cat, Ive been on BT since 2005, I like to swim but I need someone to kick me to the pool....

Ive been suffering a slump in motivation since about October last year due to long term setbacks over the past couple of years including a chronic illness and various injuries... the latest being Plantar Fascitis and Runners Knee.

Ummm Im 25, live in Sydney Australia and work for a broadcaster.

Last month I did the swim challenge and hit 37,000 metres for the month, this month Im aiming for 30,000 because I need to get back into a training routine that includes more than just hitting the pool.

I also get some serious sunburn while swimming last month which I would like to avoid this time around!

Aloha Fishy's!

My name is Nancy an almost 40 year old mom of twin 3.5 year olds.  I transplanted from NH to Hawaii due to my hubby's surf desires and his job with Marriott.  I have been on BT for year and a half, I found it because I am a bit obsessive in keeping track of my training.  One day someone left me an inspire and I didn't realize there was a whole world of tri training! What a great learning site this is and motivational as well.

I like doing challenges because It holds me to my goals.  I would have put more time for swimming but pool time is an issue at the moment.  Come June we have a brand new YMCA opening and I will be able to swim all I want!  I also picked swimming due to my plantar fasciitus staying under control, I have a big ski trip the end of January and no running until after that!

I will be swimming this Thursday, pool is closed on Wednesday (rest day for the pool, don't ask.)  Also have to get babysitters to swim due to the only time to swim is when the kids are home and hubby is not yet....   I will try to get more in than what I signed up for, just wanted to make sure I didn't hold the team back!!!

So let kick some fishy but!

Wow! Great to hear from so many Flying Fish. BT is a wonderful community for accountability and inspiring. I believe in winning, even if I too will never make the podium. The winning I'm talking about is setting personal goals and achieving them. We have all set goals for this month and I know that we will all make it as a team. Remember to take the time to inspire your fellow teammates throughout the month (and sometimes that might mean "threats", OMG, no!) Also, be sure to check out our rivals and send a little spam their way.
The challenge forum is serious work, but a lot of fun can take place at the same time. SmileyCentral.com LOL

This will be my second year of triathlon and my goal 'A' race will be Black Bear HIM on June 1st.
I have only been in the pool a couple times since my last race in Sept.  so Jan will be drills month for me.
My first scheduled swim is on the 7th so don't be alarmed by my zero yards post on the 6th.
