Go Renee!!!

I got my "official" time for my 5k yesterday. I finished in 52:04, so I only missed my PR by 18 seconds. Since I walked about 90% of the course yesterday, I'm happy with that. I can definitely tell in my body that I was going for it yesterday. My shoulders and ribcage muscles on my back are pretty sore. I guess that's from really pumping my arms to help propel myself faster. I know I really gave it my all yesterday, so even though I didn't get my PR, I'm happy with how I did.

From my first 5k race of the year back on Feb. 3, I've shaved over 5 minutes off my time so far. I would love to shave at least another 5 mins off before the end of the year. My dream goal is to finish a 5k in less than 45 mins before the year ends. That would put me at a 14:29 pace which would be a nice improvement over the 18:35 pace I did at the Feb. 3 race.

Of course, I also came to the realization last night that I'm a complete ninny. I had totally forgotten that months ago I signed up for the Iron Girl Del Mar 5k next Sunday. So, I guess I’ll get to see how my body handles doing to back-to-back 5k races. LOL

Congratulations, Melissa!! You did great (and it's not like you have to PR in every race, hee) and you'll be under 45 in no time, I bet. You're going to give us a RR, yes?

Guys, Renee's looking fantastic in her HIM: 49:50 for the swim, which seems right in line with her training (yay!), and 3:23 for the bike, which is awesome. She's on the run now!

That's awesome!  I just got off the phone with the wife of one of my BT friends that is down there also.  She said they called the race because of storms moving in and he didn't get to finish the run

I hope it didn't impact Renee.  I tried calling her but she didn't answer.  I'll let you know if I find anything out.

I just got a message from Renee - she had only 2 miles to go when they called the race -

She still sounded really positive and upbeat though!

While I understand the need to heed the weather, what a bummer to be so close!  The good news is she did well with only two miles to go.  WAY TO GO RENEE!

BunnyB - nice job on your 5K.  I agree with Erin, not every race has to be a PR (but I also know it is hard to embrace that concept!).  Rest up.

Hey all!

Thank you for your cheers!!!  I did have FUN Yanti!  Right up until when they called the race   I just had 2 miles to go and they forced us into the finish line . . . I felt a couple tears at that moment and NOT for the reason I thought I may get emotional . . . BUT I'm trying not to dwell on it.  Overall it was a great day!  Lots of wonderful people there cheering us on and the athletes also are just wonderful!  The swim was incredibly tough for me - I wouldn't even look at my watch in the water - sure I was close to cuttoff - so I was thrilled with that time!  The bike as well, very happy with my time.  The run - I was finding I had more left to give around mile 10 and was pushing to get in as close as possible to my top goal - which if everything went perfect I figured was 6:30, but highly unlikely.  I was thinking 7, was maybe realistic, but really above all just wanted to finish . . . ironically that didn't quite happen . . . Ok, so you can see, very mixed emotions here.

I'm feeling pretty good - just grabbed a bite to eat, met some more nice racers . . . now for a SHOWER   Then to hit the hot tub!  I am here one extra night . . . LOVING the time to just relax . . .  It will be interesting to see what tomorrow brings - I ALWAYS am more sore the next day or two!

Ok, gotta run for now . . . just wanted to give a little more of an update for now.

Renee

BunnyB - You have made such tremendous progress - I'm soooo excited for you!!  We can't always have a PR - but DANG - you sure were close!!!  Congrats on a fine race!!  LOL on forgetting about a race . . . I can soooo see me doing that haha . . .

Beth - Thanks for the call . . . wish my phone was working better out here!

Renee, it's such a relief to hear from you, CONGRATULATIONS on an amazing race, and an even more amazing attitude. I do have tears coming to my eyes. We were following your progress on the tracker, in this thread, and also in the Watching thread (that's where I posted we were waiting for news from you). So you have been thought of and cheered on very much today.

You pulled off a great swim, I know you struggle with that, so well done. Your bike split was SSSSSSSSSSSpeedy!!!

Well, not much comfort, but you do hold an AWESOME PR in a long course, 1.2 mi swim/56 mi bike/11 mi run that you will probably hold forever

Way to go out there and we could not be prouder.

RR and a pic are up:

Thanks for the encouragement about the PR. I definitely don't expect all races to be a PR, but felt like I had the best shot at this race of hitting it. There's something in me that just really wants to set a new PR post-surgery.

Renee!! Congratulations, major congratulations, on a fantastic race. It's such a huge accomplishment and you made us all so proud! I'm so sad you weren't able to run those last two miles (and man, two miles, that is killer). I've been thinking of you all day -- first, following your progress, then worrying about whether you'd been allowed to finish. Thank you for checking in with us -- you are amazing!

Wow, great stories from the weekend everyone!!  I will peruse the RRs after I convince the kids to go to bed (so, a few more hours ...argh).  The sun was out most of the weekend here, finally, and I am feeling like a new woman.

Again, great job Melissa and Renee, amazing!!!!

Man, I leave for a couple of days and it feels like a month. Crazy times for everyone.

I'm trying to get back into the groove. I feel like I really need to be further along then I am.

Positive Thought of The Day: I'm happy. No reason, just happy.

I hope you all are too.

BTW, I know there are some folks out here that live in So CA. A fellow BT'er is coming down from Nor CA this weekend and I'm going to meet with her to ride through the canyon by my house. If anyone is interested let me know, the more the merrier!

Hello, Manatees!  I have finished my decoupage project that I will give as a wedding gift to my sister.  I added pictures in an album on my page, crafting things, if you are interested.

I have logged three days in a row now and should be able to get something in each day this week.  I will be traveling some next week so I want to take advantage of the home time.

Have a great evening everybody!!

I'm always game for meeting other BT folks, but I'll be down in Del Mar this weekend for the Iron Girl 5k.

Speaking of my race, I'd really appreciate any "healthy toe" vibes you guys care to send my way. I have apparently reinjured the toe on my left food that I broke earlier this year. It's extremely tender and sore right now.

Where can I find a mentor group?  Everything I saw is full.  I have signed up for my first two Sprint Tri's this summer.  Looking for advice on everything!

Thanks,

Amy
