Heck. Alligators are just a good incentive not to be last. Kind of like bears up here in Canada. You don't have to be fast on the run or bike just faster than the slowest person.

Redknight - 2008-07-30 11:35 AM Tracy. Under no circumstances should you stop posting threads off topic. They spice up the thread and as triathletes we need the spice I'm sure we all enjoy the side bars even though I have never done one.

I second this!

My wife sent me an e-mail about signing up http://www.ironmanneworleans.com/index.php

We both love New Orleans, only problem is the fact it is in April, so tough to get outside and train during that time of the year.

I like the fact that the swim is point to point, and from looking at the maps means you don't have to deal with buoy's since it is just a straight swim.

I will have one Olympic under my belt before then (in November)

I don't mind the individual distances, the run is a bit longer than I normally do but figure I could get to that point by april.

Any thoughts?

one thought....ALLIGATORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL, that was the first thing I thought also, that and those big rat things I have seen them shoot on cops...

R.O.U.S.!!!! (Rodents Of Unusual Size for all you non-Princess Bride movie viewers)

Race Report done, they finally posted the splits.

Lol, got 2nd place purely by being faster in transition, gained 72 seconds on the guy in 3rd in transition and we finished 9 seconds apart.

Didn't I read the bike-discus was going to be a non-medal, trial event at the 2012 redneck games?  Maybe the cursing is part of the score for style points.

Not sure but I think I am going to see if I can find a tri around Apex NC. I really want to see how Tracy keeps her number on.

I didn't start this one!  I was trying to be a good girl and congratulate my friend and his wife on their excellent races.  But that's alright. I can take it (insert Steve's boxing kitty photo)

How about a little training talk?  I timed my 100yd swim at lunch and it was 12seconds faster than at my last pool race!  How ya like them apples?

Good swim time Tracy.

I have to do a short swim tonight. Probably won't get to it until about 9:00 though. Good thing its only a 15 minute swim in preparation for my weekend sprint. I don't have a whole lot a training going this week because of the taper off in my schedule.
I have been working on a video for the Valdora tri bike raffle. I will have it on my profile tonight provided I don't run into any more problems with it.

Great job, It is always nice getting faster.  I am looking forward to getting back on my plan next week, basically tapering for 2 weeks with the 2 sprints.

I went to my chiropractor this afternoon and he asked me what I had done to my shoulder. I told him I was just a little sore probably from cleaning the garage. He was so suprised because he said I had no strength in my shoulders and wondered how I could swim at all. I had noticed that my time had slowed down a little last week but I thought that it was just a bad day. He told me that the chest muscles had tightened up and were not allowing me the proper range of motion so that could very well be why I had lost some of my edge.
I'm glad I went to him now. Hopefully that visit will manifest itself in a good time on Sunday.

I love my chiropractor. He has done great things to assist with my training.  He also recommended an Iodine suppliment, Iodoral. Spending long hours in the pool allows larger than average amounts of bromide/bromine and chlorine to be absorbed into the body (obviously).  Bromide is also found supplimented in our breads.  Floride competes with iodine binding as well.  These two molecules out compete the iodine binding in your body and therefore you do not absorb the iodine amounts you normally would and should.  Reduced levels of iodine are linked with fatigue, mental clarity, infertility, and breast and prostate cancer in severe cases.  (sorry, this is the biologist coming out in me)  So I have started taking my iodine and I will let you guys know how it goes.  Just some food for thought.

As with any suppliment, I recommend doing your homework prior to taking it.  (there, now I won't be sued )

Nice improvement!!

Does swimming 20sec/100 faster seem like a big difference for OWS vs Pool?  Do you think wearing a wetsuit and not having to reverse directions so often could make that much impact or am I giving myself too much credit on the distance.  I try to note landmarks while swimming and use the route manager accordingly.

How does one know if they are deficient in the iodine department? I was tired and lacked mental clarity before I started swimming in the pool - though I'm obviously not infertile.

I woud think that would be quite a large improvement just moving from inside to OWS. I think the best I have done for that is about a 6 second improvement over 100 meters. That doesn't mean that you aren't just getting better and faster though. See how you do when you go back into the pool. I think you will still be faster than you were before. Nice improvement

How does one know if they are deficient in the iodine department? I was tired and lacked mental clarity before I started swimming in the pool - though I'm obviously not infertile.

I did a base-line test.  Basically, if your body is saturated with iodine, it will excrete the excess.  Just like with vitamin C, you pee out the extra.  You collect urine first thing in the morning in which they measure the amount of iodine present vs some pre-determined amount that "should be there" if your body is saturated.  Then I took a large amt of iodine and collect the urine for 24 hours.  The amount excreted in that time was measured and compared.  They told me I should excrete over 90% of the amount I consumed, and I excreted 44%.  This was done with a kit I bought  from my doctor and sent my samples in to a lab for the test results.  If you are interested, I can give you the name of the book my doctor gave me that explained all this.  It is written by an MD who specializes in iodine research and its connection to cancer.  Very easy read, it took me 2 afternoons.

that is the scientific way of going about it.  The alternative method is to buy a bottle, start taking one a day for two weeks, then 2/day for 2 weeks, then 3/day etc,  until you find the balance of feeling good and over stimulated.  Personally, I went with the slightly more regulated approach.

Ok race report is public now. I must have been really tired after driving 1200 miles after the tri and missed toggling it public.

It is hard to gage my workouts as I have also increased elevation 4500 ft and that affects my stamina. So... the 50 mile bike ride today probly should have been a 40 mile bike ride.. oh well, feel fine now was just running out of gas. And well it was 95 F also.

As for doing a practice Oly, I do full distance bricks (swim 1 mile bike 25 miles) and (bike 25 miles run 6.2 miles), but not all 3. It might be fun to do it at a non race pace with friends .... if I had any friends that didn't consider running more than 100 yards insain, owned a road bike or could swim more than 50 yards without stopping for a beer.

I will finally be back home on 8/4 or 8/5. Will be nice to be back in my own bed and with all of my training stuff available... hrm I think I left one or two things at home... 8). Luck with any races coming up and with training.

ouch that's quite a drive to have to do after a tri.

#4 coming up on Sunday for me.  first OWS, and the bike/run course is supposed to be extremely hilly, should be interesting.
