Typical American parents. Let the internet and TV raise your kids, then be shocked when they turn out all yawny and such.

I know it's irrational, I'm just sayin'.

Hey, I'm right there with you. I know what it's like, because I deal with it, too.

I ran track and XC in HS. So it can bother me that I can't go out and put down a 5K time like I did back then, especially since I was doing less miles.

I'm starting to get less bothered by it, but yeah, it's still there.

Maybe it's different for me. I'm not doing anything that I did in the past, so I think I can ONLY get better... Keeps me happy....

But I understand. If I went back to basketball, high jump, or volleyball, I could get a little disapointed that I can't fly as high as I did as a younger lad...

But for tri, the sky is the limit so far, and all I do is improve. Maybe when I stop, I'll start something else.... Life is cool that way.... Lots to do.

My very limited experience with tri is that my potential is to go from being really bad DFL to simply just bad DFL. Damn races and training for it (the pool fees, mostly) are so expensive its not worth it. That's one reason I run - its a lot cheaper to enter the races and you don't have to worry about crashing like you do in crits and RRs on the bike.

Aw Spokesy, thanks for saying that.  I have these dark thoughts, but I am always afraid to voice them.  I'm not DFL overall, just AG, but still I'm not sure if I want to bust my buns to make it to the FOBOP sometimes.  And it is way more expensive than just running or swimming.  There's does seem to be more of a sense of I can just enjoy this at my current craptastic level in running events than tri's, but it could just be the experiences I've had.

You're all right.

If you like tri and the tri training, do it.

I'm generally DFL-ish, more often than not. I get rare exceptions when I'm on a course/day that favors my strengths.

As I said yesterday ... I won't spend more than $10 on any tri training clothes item. And yeah, I'm that cheap, but I'm also that poor.

I came in as a really bad runner, but I'm actually less bad of a triathlete. The running is attractive for the cost, though.

Anyhow ... you're not alone. Not at all.

I'm going swimming at a pool then running after work. Then home to shower and pack.

Eh, I always looked at running as something anyone could stick to, even without ever doing a race.  Triathlon training is training, not just exercising.

I started tri's since I was doing 1/2 and full marathons, and as my cross training would swim,, but i just don't seem to improve much on the bike, and I think I bike a decent amount.. I'm sure one day I'll do more running events again, and just keep swimming.

That's cool.  I'm actually a bad runner, but I definitely feeling like I improve with time and consistency.  Biking on the other hand.  I don't mind the training, however I don't feel like it's the best bang for my hour conditioning wise (i.e. I've done other exercises that give me more benefit), however, it seems to be fairly accessible no matter where I live.  I think really it's the massive amount of saddle time that I would need to become FOBOP or maybe even BOMOP that I find discouraging.  Sometimes I feel like I'm just completely fighting my body type, ya know. (Thanks for making me not feel like a freak - about this anyway).

Where do you find tri clothes for less than $10?
