Bad news... I'm heading to Ortho Doc this morning... I twisted my knee pretty good yesterday while skiing.  Worse news.. I just realized I really need to shave my legs... eeeewww!!!

Hopefully everything will turn out okay.

I'll keep an update.

1/4 mile

That shouldn't be TOO bad.... hardest problem for me is getting my face in the water when it's that cold.  In what was supposed to be my first race last year, the water was in the 40's and it was snowing.   I was also sick so I exited stage right and handed off my full suit to co-worker that showed up with a sleevless shorty. (silly girl)

I'd just make sure to dunk face several times before the start. Also consider a hood, too.

Just my newbie 2 cents.

Water temp is the only thing freaking me out about doing my HIM in July.  YIKES.  Crossing fingers and praying really hard that I will have a better forecast than SOR had last year.

Back again...

I had to take a couple days off to recover from the trip. I really didn't want to, but my body told me to.

10 mile ride, against brutal headwinds and crosswinds. Two of the cross gusts almost threw me and my riding buddy down. It was a rough ride. I was actually growling at the wind. I don't growl often.

Just a strain... scheww...
But it appears in x-ray that I more than likely did break my scaphoid in my hand last month... says that if it still bothers me in another 4 wks they will do MRI to check for torn lig's... figured while I was paying for the visit I might as well get two checked out for the price of one

Mmmmmmm, thin mints straight out of the refrigerator.

Meeting with our IM coach tomorrow morning.  We have to bring our goals for 2009 along with what our time goals are for IM WI.  Would anyone like to help me out with that?

Oh yeah, she wants us to race a lot more.  Uh, I really love doing a lot of races.  Tongue out

I think you can get closer to 15 hours....  I think your swim will be faster- just cuz its not your first IM.... I think your Transitions willbe a lot faster- 16 minutes...were you putting make up on   I think your bike will be a little faster just because you know the distance already- maybe close to 7?  and I know you can have a much better run then that!

Make up?  Nope, I didn't even brush or comb my hair!  I stopped to talk to friends by the swim exit and then on the helix.  Someone had to remind me to get going.  I think I was celebrating finishing the swim too much.  Laughing

My bike was racked so far back I was almost off of the convention center.  Stupid enough to put on my bike shoes in T1, I should have carried them to the mount line.

Time goals for IM WI Round 2:

  • Swim-1:30 (pretty safe goal minus 10 min from 2008)
  • T1-10 minutes (minus almost 7 min from 2008)
  • Bike-7:00-7:15 (minus 30-40 min from 2008)
  • T2-6-7 minutes (minus a couple of min from 2008)
  • Run-5:30 (minus almost one hour)
  • Adds up to a total of 14:17-14:32

Race schedule has definitely ramped up from last year:  1 run in March, 1 run in April, 2 runs in May, Oly in June (maybe 2), Sprint and HIM in July.  She is also throwing in a lot of speed work this spring.  I hope I survive.

Cry

My MTB race for Sunday has been scrapped because of the weather! Apparently hard packed ice with snow and rain/meltwater over the top = zero traction and no race (FOOOOOOEEW!Cry)

Hopefully I'll get out through the forestry with my race buddy instead - otherwise it'll be back in the garage for another plod on the trainer...

On another note, tonight is my Day 3 of Week 6 on the hundredpushups programme - then the big test on Sunday night... (watch this space!!)

Have a good weekend folks!

So while I'm in the midst of training consisting of icing knee and isometric contractions of the quad (guess I could be focusing on upper body swim strength), I've been planning out my season...
So far it looks something like...
April 18th - walk 1/2 mary
April 25th - pool sprint
May 30th - OWS Sprint
June 6th - 45 mi bike ride
July????
Aug 22nd  - OWS Sprint
Sept 12th - OWS Oly (first Oly distance)

I know I need to add a little more... I just can't decide too much w/ family vaca stil up in the air.

How the heck does someone only eat one, repeat one, thin mint?  What discipline!

Babs, is it your first Olympic distance?  How are you thinking you will do?  I happen to do my best racing when I have no time goals and have no idea of how I am pacing.

Heather, I'm with you, eat a nice row of thin mints and wash them down with some nice cold milk!

when is the race?

Just from your previous races and looking atyour logs..Im thinking you can do (remember I am abit of an over achiever at times)

swim 36-37min, bike what is the distance some olympics vary from 24-28? but Im guessing you can avearge 18.  Run 55 minutes

What do you think?

as for Feb goals...well it is more then half over- YEAH...but lets do a little more then double what you have....  bike 100 miles run 42 and swim 20,000 (not do that much more but that will be your feb totals..sound good?)
