Big KUDOS to everyone on those tickers this week! Those goals are in sight!

I've gotta go run a web-lecture for my boss, but I'll be back later, I'm sure.

NoSit - 2009-01-12 8:53 AM Quote from MDHillSlug Morning! I had a bad swim today. I just didn't have any energy. I was supposed to be doing sprint sets alternating with regular sets but it just wasn't happening. I nearly gave it up completely around the halfway mark but managed to finish off 90% of of my intended workout. Can I go back to bed? Endquote Course you can, Nicole! Tell your boss I said you could take the day off. As for the swim, shake it off and move on! When was the last time you had a rest day? That is, a day with no planned training (other activities are okay, but no plan is allowed)? I sometimes find that I'm flat when I don't rest and flat right after I rest. It's an important point when it comes to figuring out how to train in the days leading up to races. We can postpone that conversation to nearer race season, though. Hope you feel better next time! Trish

Can I get one of those for Friday?

Congrats to everyone on moving their little tickers down...not that it should be a big deal if you didn't! We should all be feeling pretty grand after a great week/weekend of training and looking ahead to this week. The sun is shining in Calgary (though I only get to look at it from inside), and I think we might actually be in positive temps all week! (Check for flying pigs!

Our tri club meets tonight for spin class- my legs are still a bit tight from Thursday's track workout. I have been wondering why they are killing me as running typically doesn't cause me this much pain and I just remembered that our coach had us do a zillion lunges. They get me every time and I always have such a tough time recovering from lunges. I used to do a lot of weight training but lunges, even without weights, would cause DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness). Anyone have thoughts? I hate the fact that I feel that all of my workouts that follow suffer.

I love my foam roller for rolling out soreness...and what is nice is I lie on the floor in front of the tube and work away on all my muscles while watching my favorite show

naners - 2009-01-12 11:33 AM Happy monday all!  I managed to go for a swim this morning, and hope to get some trainer time in this weekend.  It all depends on what the family bonding plan is for this evening.  Now, if I could get them all on trainers.  To bad we don't have enough trainers. .

maybe not, but you are surrounded by ocean...how about taking them all for a nice ocean swim! or have them walk on the beach while you run circles around them... have a great time and enjoy thier visit...way to get already get your swim in! kiu!!!

That "Thank god it's Monday" post cracks me up! Back to work after another vacation. Didn't get to the gym this weekend, but I did make it to the gym 4 out of the 7 days and to be honest I dont think I have ever been to the gym that often since high school (when it was mandatory)!

I will go tonight and try to do a brick..nothing too crazy, but I just feel the program I'm working with is a little on the beginner end. Maybe a little biking followed by a nice run.  Good news..I heard back from the pool and I can get name on the wait list. turns out the girl I was speaking to the entire time had just started working there and was a little confused...so we cleared that up and now need to keep our fingers crossed that there will be and opening for me!

Congrats to all of you who got workouts in and lost some LBS!!

way to make it to the gym those four days....funny you talk of mandatory high school gym classes and I think that I spent the majority of my gym classes at the beach... I was a bad bad baaaaaaad girl, but have turned into the angel you all have come to know....ok not! on senior skip day, myself and three other girlfriends decided to go across the street to the apartments and go for a swim during gym....we jumped in the pool and preceded to have a great time...running and splashing about...I dont know why we didnt think that the residents....well we were busted! we saw the girls dean walk into the courtyard and she was telling us to get out of the pool...the three others listened, and I decided it would be cute to go up grab a breath of air and go back under...then come up for another quick breath of air and so on....each time I came up...I would hear Julie...Ms Griffin...Julie...you...hey....and finally after doing this for a good 5 minutes I saw that she was not very happy. When I did finally get out...she was fuming! she marched us back to school...and just as we got inside the school..wouldnt you know that the bell rang and the halls filled up with all our school mates...needless to say, we had many chuckles all a bout...we were drenched wet and in very see thru white gym outfits...not looking my best that is for sure! the dean called only my parents and I was sooooo grounded! they now laugh about it and tell me that the dean said that she thought we were very clever and was one of the funniest things she has had to deal with. Dang...why was I grounded for a month then!

I want my legs,  and slimmer butt back and I raise you with wanting my slim trim and super buff arms backl.

I can't stand the "muffin top" anymore.  I'll take the cottage cheese thighs and the bat wing triceps, but I don't know how much longer I can put up with the spare tire.

Happy Monday everyone!!!  Congrats to everyone losing weight!!!  I need to.  Mine was up again this morning, it always goes up the day after I'm too lazy to train.

Anyway, hope everyone is having a good Monday.  (I'm having a little trouble keeping up on the current topics...sorry about that.)

I SWAM! and I swam for an  hour and 15 minutes....and guess what they decided to put over one of the two olympic size pools....a tent. Yes, a tent that keeps the cold and windy elements out! yay...I swam in the one that was uncovered today since it was soooo nice, but was happy to see that I have options. This pool is only a few miles away...so this is very exciting!

It's been a real problem for me, getting the courage up to actually do it.  I broke my collarbone a couple of years ago, had a non-union for almost year, then they put in a plate.  Well, the plate caused lots of pain and friction so that I couldn't swim anything but breaststroke.  Then last May they finally took out the plate, but I was just afraid that swimming wouldn't "measure up" to what I could do in biking and running, so I just set it to the side and gutted my way through the swim parts in the couple of triathlons I did last season.  But realistically, that's not going to work for a half ironman.  So today I went to the pool.  No magic, but I'll definitely go back again.

An hour 15? I've never swam that long! Awesome!

I swim at the county pools. There's one about 1.6 miles from home and another less than a mile from work. Definitely convenient and the price is decent.

what do you pay to swim if you do not mind me asking? I pay $4 a swim. And if I swim my three times a week...that ends up being $48 a month...which could go towards a nice gym membership. I am sooooo torn! gym with a pool? or nice outdoor pool near me? that is the question!?

If you pay per swim it's $5.50. If you buy a 10 swim pass you get 11 swims. I bought an unlimited year pass, me plus my partner, for $300. I also get access to the exercise rooms, such as they are. The one near my house is kinda pathetic. Only one treadmill and mostly upper body equipment. The one by work is better but I haven't used it.

Congrats on all of the swimming happening! I am excited to have my first tri club pool session tomorrow to see if my work over the holidays has made any difference. Catch you fishies later!
