Master 1332 Vista, CA | Subject: RE: MAD MANATEE Mentor Group (TriAya & lmscozz)--CLOSED! kickitinok - 2011-02-20 3:49 PM Hey everyone! Poking my head in to see whaddup.... Congrats on the gains in swim and consistency to my manatee buddies....This sport is soooo all about mental toughness as it is physical endurance, IMHO. Like today, I didn't want to run because, well, I didn't want to run. BUT once I got out there I enjoyed myself and guess what? PB! Yippee! Totally didn't plan on that happening. I'm going to go ahead and break down and get a tri coach. I think it'll be worth it if nothing else than to keep me from over training and having a heart attack or something. I sometimes wonder if my body can handle all this...especially given my 2 packs a day smoking habit and all the sugar I eat. Joking. Seriously though...it'd be nice to have so f2f instruction (still love the mentors here, too ) My first event is in two weeks - an indoor mini tri. I'm looking forward to it. Now...if I could just get back on the weigh loss wagon...
I highly recommend a coach if you can afford it. I have a friend, who's also a coach, who I also pay that writes my schedule and listens to my tales of woe. I like the structure and I like the encouragement and hand-holding. :-) Maybe that means I need to HTFU....but that's a discussion for another thread. And, I'd never tell anyone else to do that. I think we're all at our own place in tri, as in life. And, your body will let you know when it's tired and needs a break, if we only listen, or learn to listen. And, then if we don't....usually injury of some kind. Been there, unfortunately. |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: MAD MANATEE Mentor Group (TriAya & lmscozz)--CLOSED! What? Not listen to your body => injury or illness? I know nothing about that ... My body changes over time, as I age. My body changes over time, as I build up endurance base, and have trained and raced in different ways under different conditions. My body changes to meet changing conditions, ones that build up my health, and ones that have stressed it. If I listen to my body, and continue to make a practice of knowing it well, I know exactly what to ask of it or do for it that's most appropriate at any given time, for whichever given goal. I call it 'practice' because I do get better at it over time, and I do make a lot of mistakes which I pay for, but ultimately learn from and use to do even better. |

I think 'brick' means a bike + run, not that you're supposed to hit yourself in the head with a brick, making your snot fly out ... |

I felt great after a brick on Tuesday night, completely empowered and today I feel like crap. I feel like I'm getting a cold in my lungs but I blew off my run yesterday and am thinking that biking is not happening tonight. I feel weak. I think I have some sort of training bipolar-ness. |

Nah, you actually do experience a depression in your immune system after long or hard sessions. That's why recovery is so important and yes, take extra time off if you need it. |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: MAD MANATEE Mentor Group (TriAya & lmscozz)--CLOSED! oh and Jo, as for your question about natural training nutrition ... I've had good experience using pitted dates. Lots of sugar and potassium (electrolyte) and you could also sprinkle a bit o' table salt on them for sodium if need be. Plus you don't need that many--they're quite concentrated--and fit nicely in a baggie in a bento box on the bike Where you might run into trouble, with dates or several of the other suggestions you got, is that they're also high in fiber, and that can cause some, uh, gastric distress for some people. But it's definitely worth a try!!! |

I have nothing to share, but I will be posting a calf picture after a long run. "Someone" told me to post. My training couldn't be going more swimmingly. (and runningly and bikingly). Knock wood. I anticipate being slow at my first IM. But I am starting to anticipate finishing. |

Veteran 287 Pueblo, CO | Subject: RE: MAD MANATEE Mentor Group (TriAya & lmscozz)--CLOSED! Must be somthing in the air. I've felt run down and tired for a few weeks, but especially this week. However, I have managed to get up to work out before work - something I've not done since December. Yesterday I hated it the entire time, but actually felt great driving to work, so I did it again today. Also felt great after, but drained during. Wetsuit on order - arrives tomorrow even though I did not meet weight goal. I got my bike early, so it forced me to perform...Maybe it will work on this too. Hope all is well with everyone. |

Veteran 126 Phoenix | Subject: RE: MAD MANATEE Mentor Group (TriAya & lmscozz)--CLOSED! I'm still here. (I know you all missed me...hehe)Our house had the flu come through starting almost 2 weeks ago. Everyone in the house got a touch of it in one form or another. I felt like I was coming down with it last Thursday but had already been drinking emergenc along with herbal immune support drops. Then drank an immune booster smoothie and miraculously it skipped me. But it was draining taking care of everyone else. On top of having a pretty stressful last few weeks with work. Finally did some yoga last night, and that's probably all I'll do again tonight. But then try and get some more strenuous workouts in over the weekend. My Tri is less than a month away now and I'm SO not prepared but I'm going to do it anyway since I'm signed up and paid and all. |

I just got a new job after quitting my previous job of 14 years!! Sometimes in life we have to take a leap of faith. I'm exited and nervous to start my next journey but am soooo ready. This will be good for me and my family and that's ultimately what's important right? Fortunately, my training has stayed pretty consistent. Some of my workouts have been wonderfully stress relieving. I'm exited to say I signed up to take a triathlon swim clinic. Finally, I will get some instruction on proper technique and tips on drills. Can't wait. I'll try to stop by more often. |

Veteran 193 Queens, NY | Subject: RE: MAD MANATEE Mentor Group (TriAya & lmscozz)--CLOSED! Hi Manatees! I too have been MIA but hanging in there and moving my butt . Have been having sinus problems which dont bother me to much on teh bike and run, but put me in a panic at the pool- all of a sudden I feel like I cant breathe at all. Not a good feeling. I hope this passes soon. Also just really, really tired at the end of the day, even though we have been getting more sunlight and all. I have been doing a little better with my diet (ie -I dont feel like I am starving ALL the time, just SOME times). I am still avoiding the scale but some pants fit a little better - instead of slapping me when I tried to put them on, they just kinda smirked while I zipped them up. So, that is some progress. It is still a challenge though! |

Expert 1452 Troy, MI | Subject: RE: MAD MANATEE Mentor Group (TriAya & lmscozz)--CLOSED! So I started off strong with the HIM training but now I am sick. This crud has settled in my lungs. I've had asthma since I was 4 and have had many "attacks", near-death experiences. I am really freaked out to push myself to breathe hard and do any running or biking. I have not done anything except a swim since Tuesday, when I had that awesome brick. Am I just being a baby? Should I jump on the bike and push myself. My body is liking the rest. I feel fatigued just walking up the stairs. How far behind am I going to be? My husband and I are going on a cruise on March 5 and that was a scheduled recovery week so I was just going to make a point of doing something for an hour each day (treadmill, swim, hike, stationary bike, dance, etc...). Am I screwed for the HIM? I'll have 12 weeks when I get back. |

A little stronger each time. I've already had a better 2011 than 2010 because I was a participant again. Wishing everyone good and consistent training. Also wanting the winter to end. I need some sun! Is having it more than 40 degrees to much to ask? |
