Expert 1618 Temple, TX | Subject: RE: HILDEKQ'S Magnificently Motivational Mentor Group - CLOSED!!!! Oooh, Andrea, a Master's meet!!! Do they do that by age group?? I've only done the Sr. Games and that IS done by AG although they pretty much throw everyone in together to swim, so you are not necessarily swimming next to your competition. I really like the 200 distance... the really speedy sprinty people start slowing down after 100, ha ha! But nothing wrong with going all out for 100 either! Are you going to do any other strokes besides freestyle??? Just got back from an outside bike ride, gotta love Texas in the winter! It was cold and rainy this morning, then the clouds cleared out and the sun came out and it warmed up to around 55-56... perfect biking weather!! Wish it got dark just a little later so I could fit in around 20 miles ... or maybe I just need to get faster so I can fit it in! Gotta say that with the weight loss and the double days, I'm really starting to feel good about my training again, not like I'm regaining what I lost over Christmas, but that now I can work on speed and power.... yeah, baby! |

Veteran 136 Orlando, FL | Subject: RE: HILDEKQ'S Magnificently Motivational Mentor Group - CLOSED!!!! Well, I'm back from Jacksonville, having done my first (and quite possibly ONLY) marathon. Thank you all for your inspires. I've posted a race report. We had a great weekend. Now all we need to do is recover. Still stiff and sore. I've got a painful knee and Danielle has a painful hip - along with achy legs. But the aches have gotten better today and I'm sure will continue to improve tomorrow. It's back to school tomorrow. Sigh. |

How does anyone WANT to exercise in pain for over 6 hours??? Yikes, THAT is some accomplishment!!! Hope you are walking okay at school today, Peggy! LOL!! I'm sure middle schoolers would be thinking the worst about you if you are limping, ha ha!! |

Veteran 421 | Subject: RE: HILDEKQ'S Magnificently Motivational Mentor Group - CLOSED!!!! Great running, Peggy. The experience sounds painful. I'm always amazed by the effort and perserverance required for such an event. Congrats, marathoner! hildekq - 2012-02-13 6:53 PM Oooh, Andrea, a Master's meet!!! Do they do that by age group?? I really like the 200 distance... the really speedy sprinty people start slowing down after 100, ha ha! But nothing wrong with going all out for 100 either! Are you going to do any other strokes besides freestyle??? The age groups are pretty limited. It looks like 18-29, 30-49 and 50 & up. I'm not really expecting to be leading the pack, but I'm excited to swim in a meet again. Masters was a tiny bit more active 10 years ago (approx) around this part of the state and I did a couple of meets then. I'm pretty sure they'll run each event with all ages and just group by predicted entry time. I think that I really don't want to do the 200 free. I also don't want to do any 50 yard events. I'm not built for speed and it bugs me when someone can just dive in and "tough out" a 50 really fast. I'm leaning towards the 100 IM, 100 Back and 100 Free. |

Me - I've been cleared by the doc for the gym and exercise and have to change up my study plans but things are still going ok although the last couple of weeks have been pretty energyless - lack of caffeine maybe? I've had way less cos I'm only having the stuff I buy 1 at a time rather than the home supply due to lack of finances to get the home supply. |

I see there are newer and more dedicated members than myself, kudos to you awesome people! I apologize for being out of touch for so long. I do promise, however, that I was getting an edequate workout, and a successful workout at that. So successful in fact, that we graciously found out on Christmas Eve that we are having baby #2! I do admit, as I'm rounding my first trimester, that I am NOT anxious to bring on the sweat, but since I seem to have a thing for Mashed potatoes, pizza, and other hideous Carbs (and we won't even discuss Oreos), that it is IMPERITIVE that I start walking ASAP, for the sake of my already expanding waistline. I hope everyone is doing well, and do apologize for being a naught BT'er. |

In terms of a new triathlete, knowing Hilde, I'm not sure if anything runs in that family, swim definitely and bike probably but not so sure on the run... |

When I got pregnant, I went from being a health nut to a couch potato, craving nothing but cheese and fried food! I did start moving more after the 1st trimester misery was over, so maybe you'll feel like it soon. Take care of yourself and don't be a stranger! |

I was SO sick with Kane, that I started pigging out the day we started "trying" because I just KNEW I wouldn't be able to eat my fave foods. Of COURSE this time is different and I'm craving all the naughty foods. Good to hear from you, and yes it is time for me to start moving my lard @$$!! |

Expert 972 Falls Church | Subject: RE: HILDEKQ'S Magnificently Motivational Mentor Group - CLOSED!!!! Welcome Kati - and congratulations on your pending arrival! I wanted to share three strength exercises that I've stumbled across. They are whole body exercises that will really help core strength. I find them challenging at just the right level. Clean, jerk, press, squat with ball - This is a four motion sequence. Start with ball on ground. Pick up to knees (clean), then to chest (jerk), then press overhead (press), bring down to chest and then squat. Repeat. I did this with a 12 lb ball yesterday for 2 sets of 10. I am feeling it today. Bear crawl - Walk on all fours (feet and hands) across a gym or room. Rest. Repeat as many times as you have time for. Very tiring. Inch worm - Start on all fours (feet and hands) with hands close to feet. Walk hands out until plank. Then walk feet in. Do this and cross a room or gym floor. Rest. Repeat as many times as you have time for. Yesterday I alternated between Bear Crawl and Inch Worm across a gym floor. Just twice. I am feeling it today. I like these whole body exercises in that they get all sorts of muscles that single focus exercises or machines do not get at. Have a great day everyone! |

Hilde - With the new info I'm guessing I should congratulate you on becoming a grandma again - I saw that this is Kati's second child. And you only whipped her to bring out the good in her right? Anyway I'm going back to the original education plan which means I'll be able to work and study so I can get $$$ and the theory side of things. |

Expert 972 Falls Church | Subject: RE: HILDEKQ'S Magnificently Motivational Mentor Group - CLOSED!!!! I have discovered coconut rice. It is basic rice cooked with coconut milk instead of water. It seems to be a great recovery food or pre-workout food. I am not STARVING by the time dinner rolls around. I made this Sunday night for eating @ work the rest of the week (at least 4 days of the week). Use the kind of coconut milk you find in a can. The can that says 540 calories per 8 ounces!! Yes, 540 calories!!. One cup of rice cooked in 2 cups of coconut milk yielded about 4 lunchtime or post workout servings. Lots of carbs and fat with a bit of protein thrown in. |

Expert 1007 Missouri | Subject: RE: HILDEKQ'S Magnificently Motivational Mentor Group - CLOSED!!!! Sorry I haven't been around much lately. Combination of work/life stress and feeling unmotivated to workout. Hopefully things will settle down now - I'm already back to workouts and I'm running a race tomorrow. Apparently I'm feeling a little nervous about the race considering that I had not one, but two, dreams about it last night. Nothing bad, just your typical getting lost in one dream and forgetting my shoes in the other. I haven't raced since Thanksgiving so maybe that has something to do with it. It's going to feel good to get outside and run though - I've spent way too much time on the TM this winter. Kati & Hilde - congrats on the new baby/grandbaby! |

Expert 1618 Temple, TX | Subject: RE: HILDEKQ'S Magnificently Motivational Mentor Group - CLOSED!!!! Tammy Tucker has bike porn!!!! Stop on over to her blog for a look see.... we have a friendly competitive streak between us and I've always had the tiniest advantage in the bike, but not sure if I still do now!!! I'll have to work on my beastiness! I'm taking my bike in for a tune up today, it's almost a year since I bought it and I never did get the first tune up although I did get the cables tightened up after 100 miles. I'm also picking up a new bento box I ordered from them, and I think I'm going to pick up some Speedplay pedals (the lollipop ones). There's nothing WRONG with the ones I have, (I have the SPD-SL type), but I cannot seem to click in without looking down at my foot and getting it just right, I wanna just step down and GO. I'm also gonna check on what it would cost to change out my regular crank to a compact, I sure do miss that granny gear on the hills! I CAN get up them, but at a horrendously slow cadence and burning in my quads... would much rather keep that same uphill speed but be able to spin up that hill. From what I've heard though, it's a complete change out of the drive train, so probably not very cost effective. And since the bike shop is in Austin, it means lunch out!!! We just saw an episode of Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives last night that featured an Austin restaurant, so I'm hoping we go check it out, it looked YUMMY! |

Veteran 421 | Subject: RE: HILDEKQ'S Magnificently Motivational Mentor Group - CLOSED!!!! Yes! I new coached "masters" workout has formed at my pool. It started a few weeks ago. They have a drop-in rate and a Sunday 1 hour workout. I'm planning to go tomorrow! It's just one hour, so I figure I'll be fine. The pool is not too close to my house. It's closer to work, but I'd like to do this when I can. |
